Shoemaker's Grille, located in Lynchburg, Virginia, serves a menu full of fine American cuisine. The restaurant aims to provide an enjoyable fine-dining experience and has a large patio in addition to its elegant dining room. Shoemaker's Grille has a full bar which features wine by the glass and bottle in addition to domestic and imported beer and spirits.
Start out with an appetizer to share at Shoemaker's Grille such as the onion rings with spicy ketchup or the blackened seared ahi tuna. Choose from dinner entrées like the filet mignon, the double breast of roasted chicken or the blackened grilled salmon filet. For vegetarians, try the personalized vegetable plate.
The food at Shoemakers was excellent. The filet and crab cake combo was one of my favorite meals in recent memory. The wait staff was friendly and helpful and included special personal touches that made the whole experience enjoyable.
The food was good at Shoemakers but definitely overpriced. Fairly quiet on a busy night. Polite staff.
We went Valentine's weekend so reservations were made well in advance. We were seated immediately. The food was delicious like always. One thing that you have to get used to here is the time between courses. We only ordered entrees and our entire experience took an hour and a half. It doesn't feel like it take that long, but it definitely isn't a quick meal. I would recommend it for any special occasions or a fancy night out. My husband and I will go again.
Went there with my wife and a friend from work. The house salad was very good. We had 2 Rib-eye's and the filet. All were excellent. My wife come here once a week and have never had and thing but great service & great food.
It was a wonderful day for us and Shoemakers just added to it. The Blackened salmon was great as was the service. Thanks for a great dinner. You did us GOOD.............
From the moment you walk in the door, Shoemaker's staff take care of you. It was a very nice experience having dinner there - the appetizers and entrees were delicious and the wine list was very good. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. We will definitely be back!
The filet & crab cake combo is so good it's worth a trip to Lynchburg just to have it!
I was not disappointed, this restaurant is wonderful. They service was excellent, the food was delicious and the drinks were perfect.
Very expensive, but I felt I got my money's worth. Request ahead as they will be willing to provide quieter seating. Its worth coming at an odd time (5pm or earlier) on an odd day as there are far fewer people--the privacy pushed it to the next level.
Great for our second anniversary.
Price keeps it from a higher rating ($107 for two).
I asked around on what would be the best place to take my fiance to celebrate four years of being together. Shoemaker's was recommended. They did not disappoint.
My wife and I celebrated my 79 th birthday.
Great food and service.
Thought a complementary BD dessert would have been nice. after spending
over $100 for meals for two.
We celebrated our daughter's 21st Birthday here and everything was wonderful!! Will definitely be back!
My wife and I have been to Shoemaker's several times and they do not dissapoint. The prime rib was excellent; the sea bass was a special for the evening and it was perfectly cooked. We look forward to eating there again.
We had another nice evening at Shoemaker's. The children loved their New York Strip steaks and the adults enjoyed the sea bass, crab cakes and a filet. Shoemaker's is the children's favorite.
Over all we thought it was really good the service was awesome but we felt like it should me more of a dress up requirements.
Wonderful food, great service no complaints the staff were friendly and fun. They were all enjoying their night at work. I hope to return there soon
Our dinner was delicious. We would go back again.
I was very impressed with the food and presentation. Portions were generous but more, the food was as good or better than any I've had in Lynchburg (and many other VA cities). I would recommend Shoemakers to anyone looking for a great dining experience anywhere!
Celebrated a birthday with two other couples and everything was terrific. Great service, great food, great wine. Who could ask for more? Steaks were cooked to perfection and so, so tender and flavorful. The special, a blue cheese encrusted rib eye steak, was to die for. Highly recommend Shoemakers for romantic evening and having a special time to share with friend or family.
From the beginning to end all around excellence. Went for a family outing with our adult children and so glad we found Shoemakers!
Went with my wife for our anniversary dinner and everything was great. The food, the wine, the service, everything was amazing.
The restaurant was great! The food was exceptional! Be ready to spend some cash. I spent $150. for two people. I would definitely go here for a special occasion.
We had never been there before but have wanted to try the restaurant for some time. Impressive is the word that comes to mind. The food was fantastic. We had the specials that night. I had the blackened prime rib and my wife had the rib-eye topped with sauteed mushrooms and blue cheese. We did not finish the meals; there was that much on the plates. The prices were in the $20 - $30.00 range but well worth it. We did not have any of their wine selection mostly because I was driving and my wife doesn't drink it but they have quite an impressive list. We also didn't have any desserts. We had another engagement that we had to get to.
The waitstaff was very attentive and our waiter did everything to make this a wonderful evening for us without being overly attentive. It was our 35th anniversary. This will be on the top of our list of places to eat for special occasions or impressing friends. Lynchburg has a gem in Shoemakers.
We've have eaten at many of Lynchburg's better restaurants. Shoemakers is the best of the bunch. Service was professional and first class. Food was great. Wine was great. LC women's soccer had won that night - life was good.
My fiancé and I were visiting from Virginia Beach and decided to eat here. It was the best restaurant we have been to in years!! We will be going back. We can't stop talking about it.
What a wonderful evening to share with friends! The steaks were cooked to perfection.
Exellent food, but still over-priced compared to high level restaurants in the area. Even over-priced if it was in a larger metropolitan area.
We've been here several times for special occasions and it is bar none the best restaurant we've been to in the State of Virginia since moving here ten years ago. Typically restaurants with these prices give you a meatball size portion. Not Shoemakers. Portions are generous, presentation is great and flavors burst in your mouth! As owners of a B&B, we recommend this place to all of our guests who are looking for fine dining. We are 30 minutes away, but it's well worth the drive.
My wife & I chose Shoemaker's Grill on Saturday night to celebrate our 56th wedding anniversary. It turned out to be an excellent choice. We were seated immediately upon arriving and soon after that our wine order was filled. My wife ordered the lobster special and I selected a medium filet along with a spinach salad to share. The food was excellent except for a bit too much potato on my plate and overcooked asparagus for my wife's side. The floor manger saw my wife struggling to get the meat out of the lobster claws. She took the plate to the kitchen and returned it with the meat ready to eat! We happened to mention to our waitress about our celebration and our dessert was accompanied with complimentary bubbly. A great experience!
Therefore I loved it. The food was ok but I guess I did just get a burger. The cheapest thing they had so I probably would have enjoyed the food more had I Got a steak or something
We visited the Lynchburg area from Northern Virginia. We enjoyed our stay at the Craddock Terry Hotel and seeing the sights in the area. Shoemakers was a special treat. The service, ambiance, and the food were all outstanding. We certainly liked the prices for such a fine dining experience. We would highly recommend if you are in Lynchburg.
My experience might have been better if the waitress had not broken a glass of wine on me and drenched my clothing. It was a bit cool through dinner in wet clothes. She did bring me a napkin to dry myself but neglected to remove all of the glass on the floor between the guests.
My wife and I have come down from Charlottesville for a number of special occasions including my 60th and our anniversary. The food is always delicious, the service attentive and the atmosphere quiet and private. The crab cakes are the best we've had and the key lime pie a perfect finish. Will come back!
My wife and I had a great dinner experience. We have been to dinner here a few times before and enjoyed it, but this time the food was outstanding. I had fillet mignon and she had the fish that was a special for the evening. Both were cooked perfectly. The service was prompt and friendly as always.
The food was excellent, the service was also above and beyond. One of the reasons the service rates so high is that the waiter had the foresight to bring us a small flashlight!! Otherwise, I don't know if we could have read the menu. Why so dark? The surroundings, which is an old shoe factory, are charming. Also, as usual today, the place was air conditioned to about 65 degrees -- had to keep my jacket on.
I would definitely return here to eat on my next visit to Lynchburg. I thought the food was very well prepared (had fish) and delicious. Not Too Much done to it, as is sometimes the case today with "trendy" places. Wines choices by the glass rather limited, and quite pricey.
oustanding restaurant, the best fine restaurant in Lynchburg...tasty food w/lots of variety and choices, excellent service w/very friendly staff who are accommodating, all in an atmosphere of elegance. my wife and I enjoyed our 37th in regal style...thanks Shoemakers!
WOW! This restaurant is in the heart of the historic area, next door/adjoining the Craddock Terry Hotel. It was formerly a warehouse for the shoe factory and features many paintings and art items depicting that history. The food is over the top. I had one of the best steaks I have ever eaten, with blue cheese on top. My guest had salmon, which was also considered excellent. Excellent wine, great service. This is a place that should be on your A list for Lynchburg.
It's busy. Get a reservation. Also, parking is tight so arrive early and get a drink at the excellent bar.
Server was attentive. Unfortunately the burger came lukewarm and the tuna also arrived cold. The manager did try to help, but her hovering while I re-checked my food made for an uncomfortable interaction. It came back barely warm and when pressed by the manager I just didn't want to make a scene nor deal with it anymore. I wanted to leave but my dining companions' food was fine. SO...can't really recommend it though other diners seemed to be enjoying themselves. They did take the cold/lukewarm tuna off my bill so, there's that. And they do have a good wine list.
My wife and I were impressed in every way. Our server Alex was excellent and the food was the very best!
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner at Shoemaker's and it was phenomenal! Both of us had steak, new York strip and filet and both were outstanding with excellent flavor. Highly recommend the mac & cheese, also!
