Shiro Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Been goin on our anniversary for 25 years not every one but at least 5.... great food good service. The whole fish is legendary The halibut was fabfantastic and the ribeye was cooked to perfection. Worried the place is not attracting ANY younger clientele .....so many folks at retirement age. So different marketing tactics might help. In any case it was full so maybe thats not their thing. I will of course be back
This group of friends has dined together before at Shiro's, and it was again picked as a birthday celebration venue. Several of us enjoyed the John Dory, which none of us had tasted before. The waiter was very solicitous, and funny, and the ambiance is great. I have an unusual allergy, and the waiter was very helpful in checking out what I could eat. I truly appreciated that.
We were very happy we could hear each other talk, which is more and more rare these days, it seems. I'd like to return to try a couple of the other options that others tried and loved.
We had the pleasure of eating at Shiro's again and were even more impressed by the experience. First, we could actually visit with our friends so not too noisy. The cocktails and wine list were great. The appetizers amazing; two of us had the special ravioli with black truffle shaved on them. Then three of us had the signature catfish dish. Altogether, a great experience and we recommend it highly.
Shiros is great. Always a must out in Pasadena. Their Deep Fried Catfish in ponzu sauce is perfect. Combine with Tuna Tartar Tacos and a chocolate soufflé and you've got heaven. One of the few restaurants out here where you can have a conversation without shouting.
One of the best meals ever. The only problem was a little sand in the otherwise delicious clams. When we mentioned this, the dish was wisked away and the kitchen produced one of their specials, a black cod, very quickly to replace. While obviously the sand should not have been there, they way it was handled was so good I could not deduct a star especially as the rest of the meal was absolutely wonderful.
The best restaurant in the San Gabriel valley. We have been regulars for years and were never disappointed. Basic classic and eclectic Italian/French/Asian cuisine prepared expertly and served quietly by attractive intelligent waiters . ( Servers seem to be working for advanced degrees at the local brainy schools) . Tables are spaced generously, so can have private conversation.
Free parking is easy in adjacent lot.
This is the second time that my husband have been to Shiro for our anniversary! They are so nice and perfessional there! They gave us free champagne while we waited for our table. They also brought us a beautiful dessert and port wine after our amazing dinner.
I could eat there every night! The owner is just lovely! She always makes sure you are well taken care of and the food is amazing! They could charge a lot more but instead concentrate on making all of their guests feel welcome and want everyone to be able to afford a beautifully prepared meal.
We have been Shiro's customer for a number of years. We had another opportunity to visit Shiro for the DineLA menu. We came here with another couple and all of us except myself ordered from the DineLA menu. Everyone enjoyed the three courses dinner with House-Smoked Salmon on Potato Pancake followed by Canadian Sea Scallops and Apple Pie as the dessert. I went back to my favorite dish Fried Catfish (3 lbs). As always both food and service were fairly good.
Came for DineLA last week and was thoroughly impressed with my experience here! :)
For the starter, I got the Chinese Ravioli, which is filled with shrimp mousse doused in a shiitake mushroom cream sauce. In terms of texture of the shell, it reminds me more of wontons than ravioli but still absolutely delicious.
For the main, I got the roughy tempura. I had to google what roughy is - turns out it is an Australian fish. It was served in this tomato heavy sauce, which reminded me of spaghetti sauce. I thought the dish was fine, but nothing to really write home about.
For dessert, I opted for the apple tart with vanilla ice cream. One of their signature dishes - would definitely recommend it! The tart was flaky, and the ice cream was covered in this cool golden shell.
My friend and I shared the softshell crab appetizer. We were both shocked to learn that it was $18+ for a single softshell crab. It was big, and really good, but still, given that we each paid $9 for half a crab, it didn't really sit well with us. Be wary when ordering specials because they don't tell you the prices.
I also added a "white flight" for an additional $15. I thought it was worth it considering that a cocktail here is like $14! I really liked the chardonnay so I went ahead and ordered a glass of that.
Our server, Shawn, was attentive and courteous but not overbearing. I also love that the lady I'm presuming is the manager also seated us and brought us flowers when she saw that our table is unadorned - a nice touch!
Lastly, I'm not sure why this place is considered Japanese and French. Given what I experienced off the DineLA menu, it really seemed more like a French/American restaurant with a hodgepodge of Asian influences.
