Sherrill, thank you so much for helping us celebrate Kathleen’s birthday. It was a memorable dinner. It’s always a treat to see you. Happy holidays to you and family.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner with unique appetizers we four shared of of tacos, salad, asparagus.
The entres of salmon, John Dory were excellent. Thje service was outstanding and the atmosphere
quiet with low volume music so we could talk.
One of the best meals we’ve had in years. The menu is very creative and the service was wonderful. So good we made reservations for our next visit before we left. No wonder why this restaurant is rated so highly by Zagat!
The food was delicious as always. We shared an squash blossom w/ shrimp mousse appetizer and it was wonderful. The taste was delicate with a crispy tempura shell. Their scallops were done just right being very tender. The New Zealand lamb chops were delicious as always.
I have had many things on their menu and never been disappointed. We were celebrating someone's birthday and they brought several samples of their wonderful desserts as well as some vanilla ice cream for the others.
This restaurant is definitely a keeper.
Excellent service with creative menu..always something new with favorites always available
Fabulous cuisine and wonderful service. Have been going to Shiro for decades and have
always had a terrific experience.
Fantastic food; lovely presentation; attentive, friendly service. The 4 of us were able to chat, visit, have a leisurely meal and not feel hurried or pressured. And we could actually hear each other! Very wisely and with consideration, patrons were not seated "on top of each other!" There was space for privacy and comfort!
I marked down on service not the waiter. Our waitee Brandon was very good. Service that brought the food to table was kinda rough. Plops the dish down with a thud. Maybe the plate was hot which it was. Brings the entree but not the plate of vegetables at the same time. The entree served first got their vegetables last. We were a party of 9.
Delightful and Delicious! Shiro never disappoints.
Shiro is a family tradition to celebrate my parents' birthday. I sometimes wonder what motivates people to own and run a restaurant. Each year, we arrive, and the owner greets us, recognizing us, and knowing we've arrived to celebrate a special occasion. The staff seem to really appreciate sharing our special moments with us. I hadn't realized how special Shiro was to our family and for that, I am thankful for the always-on-the-menu catfish and incredible hospitality.
Food was excellent
This is my family’s favorite restaurant and has been for over 25 years! It’s always a pleasure.
Shiro is contemporary elegance without being stuffy and pretentious. The service is impeccable and attentive without being intrusive. The food is excellent. Cocktails delicious. I would , without the slightest hesitation, recommend Shiro to anyone. We are definitely going again and again.
Had a wonderful time, food was great, servers were attentive and made sure water was filled. Love coming here!
As usual the food was excellent but the service was a bit slow this time. Usually the service is excellent.
Have not been to Shiro for about 15 years. What have we missed!! This is not a super fancy place or a hang out place. It does not have the atmosphere like the restaurant in Old Town or Lake Ave but it’s a perfect place to have a nice dinner with friends or couples. The food and service is great. We have their ribeye steak and tuna steak, both were great. Believe or not, their bread and butter was perfect.
We will definitely go back again on a regular visit. It is a little pricey if you don’t mind.
We were staying at the Langham and decided to try Shiro's after reading online reviews. We dined there on a Thursday night at only a few diners were present when we arrived at 7:30. The proprietor seated us and told us about the restaurant' interesting history. It has been at that location for 33 years, which is a real testament to it's enduring appeal.
The food was wonderful as was the service. We enjoyed the ambience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We had a group of ten ladies celebrating 2 birthdays. Several people tried the chef's choice--great choices, lots of food. They had samples of almost every entree offered from tempura halbut, mushroom ravioli, choclate souffle and lamb chop plus several other items. Good value. Halibut was beautifully presented, moist, and tasty. Shrimp was deliciously prepared and was presented with delicious scalloped potatoes, carrots, and brussel sprouts. Servers and restaurant personnel very friendly and gracious. Everyone enjoyed the evening.
Service was impeccable. Most of all, We love the wine selection, app, dessert and their special coffee drink.
We took our neighbors to Shiro as a thank-you for keeping an eye on our place and collecting out mail while we were on vacation, and all four of us had a great time. Wonderful food, excellent service. Not cheap, but not out of line, either, for the quality of the experience. Highly recommended.
The food was excellent, however, the menu didn’t really seem like AsianFrench cuisine. There was no evidence of any Asian influence, so that was slightly confusing and disappointing. Having said that, I really enjoyed my meal.
I've been to Shiro quite a few times now and have never been disappointed. This time, they had tempura halibut as a special. I was lamenting (not really seriously) to the waiter that I love halibut but am avoiding fat and therefore would have to forgo this special because they don't do substitutions. The waiter, however, said the chef would be willing to do the halibut with a herb sauce, so that's what I ordered. It was fantastic. My friend and I shared two appetizers: the asparagus salad with hazelnuts and the salmon tacos. Both were delicious. The service, as always, was impeccable. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly.
Consistently great food and service.
We had our wedding anniversary at the restaurant. It was on a Wednesday, we wished it would have been on Thursday with the 5-course dinner, but it was still excellent and all the servers were so, so nice. Great atmosphere and great food. 💕
A great place for celebrations
Food is good, little pricey but their services are great
The food was nicely cooked from my medium rare rib eye steak to my husband's whole catfish. Nice cute restaurant in South Pasadena with friendly owners/managers.
Only reason for the lower rating was for the service. It looks like a place with a lot of returning patron and the service they receive is a noticeably better. Being our first time there, our service was not as attentive. Often times we sat there for a long while in between our food, water refills and when we're done with minimal follow up from our waiter. The restaurant is not that big and we see him walk to the same few tables multiple times before he would notice and remember us. Super nice when we ask for anything but as I mentioned not as attentive and required us flagging him down multiple times for anything.
It was great service and ambience.
Every time we come, we are reminded again of what a fabulous experience it is. The food is excellent and the servers are very knowledgeable.
Great neighborhood find with equally excellent food
Great service, this is the first , what call nice restaurant that the was was worth the price in a long time
The best restaurant for over 30 years in South Pasadena. They’ve added so many great dishes and their wine selections are fantastic! Cheryl has done a fine job in keeping staff educated in food and attentative to your needs. Shiro’s is the definition of a high quality restaurant now rare in this area. I will go back in a heartbeat!
Happy that Shiros responded to the birthday occasion I noted on my Open Table reservation and surprised us with a complimentary birthday “cake”. Most attentive!
The menu is EXTREMELY limited. I'd seen the website and saw these wonderful dishes with sweetbreads and scallops, just to visit the restaurant and be presented with a menu that really only had 5 or 6 pretty standard dishes: salmon, seabass, steak, chicken...
We went for a birthday dinner. We felt rushed to order our entree’s, then ignored when a larger group came in.
Our last visit.
We celebrated a birthday dinner at Shiro and it was fantastic! As we had theater reservations, it was tight timing from the start. However, our friends at Shiro didn’t disappoint- they greeted us warmly, seated us right away and shared the lovely menu offerings. We had a hard time choosing because there was such abundance! We did decide and our meals came out very quickly. Although we would have normally stayed longer to enjoy such a delicious meal, we were able to enjoy everything, including the special birthday dessert they surprised us with!
Thanks, Shiro, it was a fabulous time and we will certainly be back!
The menu posted on OpenTable and the menu at the restaurant are not the same.
The food and service here are very good, but the place is tired. The plates they serve on - very creamy white and usually much larger than the portion size - make the food look dull and bland. It's not, but there's no "ta-dah" in the way anything is shown, other than the catfish. But if you close your eyes, it's just fine.
Best Fine Dinning in all of the San Gabriel Valley!
Restaurant features perfectly prepared, imaginative fish dishes, with gracious, attentive service.
