Shirlee has some wonderful, unique food and great service. I especially liked the salmon. The portions are small and fairly expensive, however. Also the music was annoyingly loud and strange.
Not the best but fair
I go here once a week because its SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. Read my last reviews.
Evening was great!
I love getting together with friends for great food and conversation in a lovely environment and Shirlee provides the opportunity for all three.
Very good food quality and good service. Our friend thought his steak was the best he’s had ever! My husband got the pork chop with cauliflower and it was a big portion and delicious. I really enjoyed the clams with chorizo. The broth was divine and they provided a big chunk of lovely bread to soak up the juices. My friend had the fish n chips and the fish was coated with a well seasoned and browned crust. The fries were excellent too! We started with the tuna crudo (yummy) and the jambon with créeme fraiche and bread. This was the only “Ho-him” dish.
Love this place, beautiful space, including the awesome patio. Delicious food and great cocktails. Will definitely go back!
Since his is our neighborhood gem, we eat here about once a week. My reviews don't change very much. The place provides innovative amazing food and has a good imaginative wine list.
Everything was so delicious. The clams served with a curry cream sauce were ridiculously good - my husband I are still talking about them two days later.
Good service and food - our server was helpful in his suggestions and the meal and drinks we ordered were delicious.
Such a cute place! Lunch with me myself, and I. The oysters and the Billy’s tomatoes with burrata were amazing! Oh and the rose! 😊
The food is delicious! A bit overpriced, though. Six dollars for a smallish basket of bread. That too was delicious, and maybe I'm mistaken. Regardless, I'm definitely going back.
Amazing food, great service! Will definitely be returning soon!!!
This is our neighborhood go-to place; can walk here from house and waddle home after an amazing meal. Always a great place.
Great service! Food was a bit under seasoned but was still very good!
Our first time at Shirlee we were disappointed in the service. We went early for a Friday night and sat at the bar. It took bartender 5+ minutes to ask for our order even though place was 3/4 empty. Once i placed my wine order and received my drink it was another 5 min before she asked my boyfriend for his order. We sat for 15 min with menus pushed away before we were asked about ordering food. The salad and fish and chips arrived quickly and were good but we were disappointed in the slow service. I wonder what it would be like when the place is full/busy. Will probably try again.
We loved our attentive and friendly server! The food was also delicious... we’ll be recommending this to everyone.
The croque madame was tasty, as was the gin cocktail. The space is lovely but background noise was excessive considering how few tables were occupied.
Both of us had oysters and were looking forward given our experience with her other restaurants. We found them almost delicious. Perhaps not enough crunch and a bit underdone. And I would consider adding a fourth. The frities tasted like they were made from previously cooked potatoes (to save time) and could have used a bit more salt and hint of oil. Excellent salad and creme/peach dessert.
Need to decide whether to recommend the restaurant for upcoming dinner with friends. Not a slam dunk like The Whale, for example.
The Burrata was outstanding.
The quiche was ok, with boring greens on the side
The Eggs Benedict was wonderful
Only coffee, no barista on site
Service was good, then we asked a question and the response was absolutely terrific
Trying for a French cafe vibe, but playing loud, not so French sounding music kind of took away from the ambiance. When I ordered appetizers and main dish, it all came out simultaneously. Made me feel rushed to not be able to finish cocktail and appy before main meal arrived. Food was good.
We three asked separate check but our server did not do for us.
We’re had to figure out each our own total which it’s not hard thing to do. So we did anyway.
My chicken was not cook well.
The drinks were great, the food was good and the service was excellent! Great place.
Hamburgers were very good but very expensive. Fries cold and not a generous portion. Way too cold and way too loud for a neighborhood bistro dinner with friends. Somewhat snooty service. Won’t rush back.
Went for weekend brunch. We both had burgers and they were awful - cold in the middle when we asked for them to be medium. Service was spotty/lazy. For $20 per burger, this restaurant needs a remake. If you can’t make a great burger you shouldn’t be in business!!! Don’t waste your time eating here, there are many, many better and more interesting places nearby.
Brunch at Bistro Shirlee was pretty lovely. It's a beautiful restaurant. However, I would have loved more coffee options than just drip and the quiche I had was quite salty.
Good service and setting, food is middling, though.
For a burger and fish and chips, it was extraordinarily expensive. Nice atmosphere, great deck space. Other dishes were okay but nothing amazing. Dishes were nicely presented, staff friendly, decor very pretty.
French fries were not crisp, and Harissa on chicken was too light that lacked much test. Our server went off her shift and the transition to her replacement was poorly handled.
Our first visit to Bistro Shirlee, having been there several times over the past few years under previous ownership. We loved it - especially the seafood entrees (clam and salmon).
Money. Felt well oiled. Nicely done Rene. Food was great!
This was my third visit. I had the same thing I had on the first visit: pate and a lettuce salad. I liked it but I wouldn’t say it’s the most interesting or delicious pate I’ve ever had.
I tried a taste of both roses and neither was very good. One was so dry that it had no flavor. The other had a tinny taste. I settled on a decent Pinot Gris.
My husband had good mussels and a gin and tonic made with a flowery tonic that he loved but I really hated. Just remember that it tastes heavy and if you like that, go for it.
The time before, I had fish and chips. Nothing special. This time a friend ordered the hamburger. She said it was good but she left the fries as mediocre.
Service was good. Restaurant is pretty but noisy.
Servers were not welcoming or friendly. Ambiance not much different then St Helens. Food was okay but menu choices were odd. Overall I’d try again and hope they find servers who want to assist customers. Ours was generally aloof and dismissive.
First time to this Bistro and we really enjoyed it. Service was good and it was friendly.
My porkchop was extremely flavorful and juicy and my husband's salmon was very good. We both enjoyed a nice glass of wine and tasty desserts. My chocolate mousse was rich and delicious. We had a great time and enjoyed everything about our evening out at Bistro Shirlee.
Mariah took great care of us and provided wonderful service. The food was amazing and the space felt fresh and relaxing. A+ all around!
The tomato and burrata salad was superb. We also each had the quiche and a donut. Excellent all around.
We had an 8 PM dinner at Shirlee on Saturday night. The food was very good, the wine excellent and well priced, the service was also good but the evening was disappointing because they ran out of both the entrees we had wanted to order. So we substituted appetizers for our main courses. The bill was expensive , over $150 with tip. I would think that this cafe will be a success but I hope they can be more cost-conscious and have enough food on hand to serve its customers
Service was from indifferent to downright rude. Won't go again and will tell others to avoid.
I really wanted to love this place, but not quite there for me. We sat outside, which is great. Service was friendly and efficient. Just not crazy about the food. Not that it was bad, just not great for the price. Husband had the salmon ($33), small piece with a few curls of zucchini and some kind of puree. Had to make him a sandwich when we got home. I had the burger, which is very large and just fine ($20). Friend had the chicken which was ok ($30). Food was not bad , but certainly not great for the price. Hope they work on the menu...want it to be better!
Great food and great service!
