About Shinsei Restaurant
Shinsei Restaurant is a Traditional Sushi Bar with a Pan-Asian kitchen.
When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.
Our food is electrifying. But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Never boring, yet comforting at the same time. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.

Shinsei Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I’ve visited this restaurant many times over the years and have always had a good dining experience. Unfortunately, they’ve brought in bussers who run around and grab plates of food off the table without asking the customer if they were done. Plates should stay on the table until all portions are finished or the customer asks for the food to be taken away. For the price I expected more.
I cant tell if this is the fault of Shinsei or becoming a trend with OpenTable bookings the past year or so, but the tables that seem to be reserved through OpenTable are always the worst seat in the house. This experience was no different with a half full restaurant as we were seated about as far away from anyone except the kitchen behind a wall I didn't know existed from our many previous visits. I am seeing this trend with OpenTable bookings. Usually a restaurant can make it up with the quality of food, but not this night. It was really not very good, which is so disappointing based on how much it cost. I used to frequent Shinsei quite often, but haven been back in a year or so. Too many better options out there to go back now. In fairness, our server was very good and he bailed out an otherwise very mediocre experience. Pretty bummed.
We were seated promptly upon arrival. Great vibe to the place right off the bat. Didn’t really want to spend much time looking at the menu so we let the server captain the meal. He did a great job made some solid selections and limited he time we spent without something to eat. Highlight for me were the bussers, they were both rapid and detail oriented.
The food overall it’s pretty good. Being a lover of sushi I did not feel like there were as many options as I would have liked. The rolls could have been more creative. With that being said, we had a friend with us that did not like sushi and there were plenty of options for him. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I thought the food was a little high priced for what was offered
Garlic pork potstickers and the Dragon Lady pressed salmon sushi were our favorite items of the evening.
We had the shrimp dumplings and the filling was wonderful but the wrappers had an unpleasant slimy texture.
Finished with the chocolate cake and well, ho-hum, really; firstly it was a sheet-cake-style which always suffers in presentation as underwhelming and the icing, although glossy and rich looking, was decidedly gritty.
My husband and I eat a lot of sushi / asian food and heard decent things about shinsei. They brought us two of the wrong dishes out (which really wasn’t that big of a deal, albeit sloppy) and the food was just okay. We ended up walking out of there with a fairly large bill and feeling unsatisfied. If the food had been cheaper or tasted better, I would have felt better about our experience overall. However because we paid so much for food that was satisfactory, we will not be returning. There are better sushi / asian fusion eateries in dallas at this price point.
Small and quaint. A little noisy but not too bad. Great sushi. The Shinsei roll was boring but the the pressed sushi was great along with the nagiri. Also had crispy brussel sprouts which never disappoint. Finished the meal with chocolate spring rolls and it was one of best desserts I’ve ever had.
Fun food, great service and drinks. Something for everyone! There were four of us and we ordered 5 items off the menu and shared everything! Great way to enjoy this place! Ribs, Brussels sprouts, fried rice, dragon lady sushi and edamame! All really really good with super attentive waiters.
