About Shinsei Restaurant
Shinsei Restaurant is a Traditional Sushi Bar with a Pan-Asian kitchen.
When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.
Our food is electrifying. But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Never boring, yet comforting at the same time. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.

Shinsei Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food overall it’s pretty good. Being a lover of sushi I did not feel like there were as many options as I would have liked. The rolls could have been more creative. With that being said, we had a friend with us that did not like sushi and there were plenty of options for him. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I thought the food was a little high priced for what was offered
Garlic pork potstickers and the Dragon Lady pressed salmon sushi were our favorite items of the evening.
We had the shrimp dumplings and the filling was wonderful but the wrappers had an unpleasant slimy texture.
Finished with the chocolate cake and well, ho-hum, really; firstly it was a sheet-cake-style which always suffers in presentation as underwhelming and the icing, although glossy and rich looking, was decidedly gritty.
My husband and I eat a lot of sushi / asian food and heard decent things about shinsei. They brought us two of the wrong dishes out (which really wasn’t that big of a deal, albeit sloppy) and the food was just okay. We ended up walking out of there with a fairly large bill and feeling unsatisfied. If the food had been cheaper or tasted better, I would have felt better about our experience overall. However because we paid so much for food that was satisfactory, we will not be returning. There are better sushi / asian fusion eateries in dallas at this price point.
Small and quaint. A little noisy but not too bad. Great sushi. The Shinsei roll was boring but the the pressed sushi was great along with the nagiri. Also had crispy brussel sprouts which never disappoint. Finished the meal with chocolate spring rolls and it was one of best desserts I’ve ever had.
Fun food, great service and drinks. Something for everyone! There were four of us and we ordered 5 items off the menu and shared everything! Great way to enjoy this place! Ribs, Brussels sprouts, fried rice, dragon lady sushi and edamame! All really really good with super attentive waiters.
The parking lot is just south of and next to Fireside pies; i.e. if you can't find a parking space in front of the restaurant along Inwood. There is complimentary valet too, right after you pass the restaurant heading south.
Table service can start to get slow when it starts getting busy; around 18:30 on Saturday in my case.
We had the Sushi Rolls. The Lover's Roll & Pressed Sushi was tasty, however the Ashbey was only mediocre. Barbara's cinnamon chocolate cake was not worth the $7.00; it tasted fine but was only 2 inches square and 1 inch high with a small ping pong size scoop of ice-cream.
Shinsei continues to be an outstanding dining option in Dallas. Whether you like Sushi or just prefer the Pan-Asian menu both options are sensational. Daily specials, menu's that change seasonally and still some of the finest sushi in Dallas. Misto Cod might be the best entree of fish in the city; numerous sushi rolls, several opportunities for sashimi and a variety of appetizers and first course options. Besides Misto Cod, Chicken, steak, scallops, halibut the main entree from the Pan Asian kitchen are out very good. Worth the trip.
We arrived 10 minutes early thinking it was better to be early than late, that was a big mistake. We waited patiently for 30 past our reservation time while watching other couples come in that had the same reservation time as us and then were seated almost immediately. After waiting for 30 past the reservation time so a total of 40 minutes we decided to go ahead and leave seeing we where not going to get a table any time soon. After we had gotten back into the truck and we're heading another restaurant they called is and said they were about to have a table ready for us if we wanted to come back. I told them I had wasted enough time there and was headed somewhere else for dinner and they replied fine and then hung the phone. Just off this experience I will never go back to this place again.
Always good - but needs more waiters/waitresses. Almost every time we’ve eaten there – which is about 25 – you’ll want something and your waiter will be MIA. As your friends progress through their meals, you’re still waiting to grab staff and get something you need.
Our first time at Shinsei and we loved it! Enjoyed the wonderful hand-crafted cocktails and the sushi/sashimi to start. We enjoyed sharing several small plates, delicious dumplings, pork buns and salads, though the regular entées such as halibut and short ribs looked very good at the table next to us. Every one was dressed up for Halloween and having fun w/the diners. Our server, Brandy, was super helpful and knew every detail about the menu with spot-on suggestions. The pumpkin bread pudding, formed and not too sweet, is not to be missed!
