When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.
But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.

The food was just ok for the price. I can get better sushi elsewhere. Our service was very poor. He finally came by just to take our menus and I was like “…can we order??”. Then they boxed up our leftovers together even though they were on separate plates for separate people. Just an overall underwhelming experience for the price.
Just a return visit. All was great but the fried rice keeps us coming back.
The food was good, not great. Japanese/Asian fusion with many elements of traditional Japanese food with an Americanized twist.
We ordered a bunch of small plates and 4 mains. Nothing was particularly standout and nothing was bad.
Our food seemed to come out as ready, which was odd, so our sides came out first, then our mains, followed by the sushi orders… so by the time we got to sushi no one was really particularly in the mood.
The uni was also not the freshest/tastiest.
The noise level was beyond high. We had to literally lean over our food and yell to hear the people at our table. Not sure if this is the norm, but definitely impacted our experience.
Service was just ok. Wait staff did not come by particularly regularly. Never asked if we wanted another round of drinks.
Probably wouldn’t come back by choice. Big let down given how many people spoke highly of Shinsei.
Great birthday dinner with the family! They even accommodated a last minute family member to join!
I was seated in a small closet like space in the back next to the open kitchen door. When I asked to be moved, they refused despite other available seats. I will never go back after the way I was mistreated.
We love this place! Consistently great. Tammy is the best.
The place was packed, so I was happy that they honored our 8:45 reservation. I had booked 10 days ahead and that was the earliest time slot available for 5. Nice varied wine and cocktail list. We ordered appetizers, sushi, sashimi, and some full course entrees. Some of our favorites :the oysters were a hit as was the Toro sashimi, steamed buns, and Miso Cod. Everything was great except for the Crispy shrimp. They were good but not as good as everything else we ordered. Service could not have been better and I would definitely as for Natalie again.
Consistently excellent food and service that is both warm and efficient. In my opinion, it’s the best sushi restaurant in Dallas
Ted, our waiter was absolutely amazing, attentive and gave excellent wine recommendations. This place always goes above and beyond, so when we are in town we always come in. The food is always so fresh and amazing.
Khalil is THE BEST in the business!
The staff was excellent and while we sat at the bar we throughly enjoyed the service. The food is delightful with great options.
The best! Always! Perfectly curated menu of food and cocktails and one of the best vibes in Dallas. Thrilled to be back at Shinsei and see Dallas coming back after Covid.
We had a wonderful dinner with friends and enjoyed the special 1/2 price wine night.
Loved it - we’ll be back!
Great experience. Food and service were awesome! Never disappoints.
Great food and service. The sushi was very fresh and expertly prepared.
Five stars as usual. Never had anything but excellent food, wine, and service here. Consistently outstanding
This was our first visit to Shinsei and we cannot wait to go back and try more menu items! We were unable to pick a favorite item because it was all so good. Three of us shared the Thai fried rice (combo), crispy shrimp, pressed dragon roll, Tammy roll, and the Brussels sprouts. All excellent!
This spot gives extraordinary service and delightful meals. One of my favorite restaurants around town. Carter was our server along with others on the waitstaff team. They were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.
Food was fantastic, the service was a little slower than I would have preferred but our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return in the future.
Unusually slow service
I always leave spending over 2 hundred dollars and still feel hungry. I ordered the Cod it was bla. No real taste and slimy the skin was still on and I was having a hard time separating the fish and the skin it wouldn’t separate. I asked for no onions there was onions. Friend rice was just ok. PF Changes had much better food snd better value. I will never go back.
Good food and good service but a little on the expensive side.
Tried some ‘new to me’ items that were delicious! Great service by Natalie!
First time to dine at this restaurant. Selected by my date. It was excellent. Food exceptional, service great. Wonderful experience. We will definitely be back. Shinsei, Thank you for the fun evening.
Amazing food and great service ! Love this place!
Great place to eat Great food and service
Really hated getting rushed out basically forced to place orders early because kitchen was going to get busy and all food came out way too fast and on top of each other miss the old shin sei
It was amazing the food was excellent and the service was by the far the best I’ve ever had, are server name was Tid, and he made our dinner experience very enjoyable
Great atmosphere. The sushi is excellent and the drinks are also well made.
Great server (Kalil?) - attentive and great recommendations - other servers generally efficient and friendly. Food was very good - just not ground breaking - possibly our fault for staying with sushi and sashimi. OK wine selection - nice half bottle offer. Good Sicilian Red.
Ate at the sushi bar. My server Francisco was super upbeat and did a great job! Restaurant was busy and sushi took a little longer to come out but it was presented beautiful and incredibly fresh! It’s always a great experience and one of my favorite places to dine at when visiting Dallas.
Never disappoints!!! Drinks, appetizers (we had duck spring rolls and prime beef on hot rock), and rolls were as fantastic as always. Also had grilled okra as a side!! Yummy.
I gave the service 4 stars - it wasn't bad or even close, just kinda spotty (had to ask for water once) and not what we've come to expect.
We can't wait to come back!
Hands down our favorite sushi
10/10 would recommend this restaurant!
Food was spectacular and Teddy did a great job taking care of us!
Great Sushi / Sashimi restaurant. The menu selections are divergent and plentiful, and for those who are carb-intolerant they make riceless rolls for about any roll on the menu (Riceless Rainbow Roll was excellent). Sashimi is generally $16 for five pieces (I prefer Salmon which was great), TORO is market price. Wine by the bottle is half off on Monday hence our go-to night. Service (both from the wait staff to the chefs) was top-notch - no complaints whatsoever. Price is around $$$, for myself low priced ($-$$) Sashimi is a bit worrisome so I prefer more upscale. Only recommendation to Shinsei: refrigerate your Sushi/Sashimi plates.
Super fresh. Peking Duck was perfect! Can’t wait to get back!
The menu and the interiors can both use a refresh. Won't be back.
