When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.
Our food is electrifying. But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Never boring, yet comforting at the same time. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.
They brought out all the food at once which was really unprofessional. It even got there before the wine, go to uchi if you looking for the best of the best.
We had an amazing experience. We had a reservation for 9 but they were so busy and we ended up being sat closer to 9:40. It was totally fine, we grabbed a few drinks at the bar and before you knew it we were sat. The manager treated us to a few apps for the inconvenience which was entirely too sweet! Overall the food was amazing, the service was on point and we had a great time. Can’t wait to come back.
always awesome food!
Great sushi! The sashimi was to die for. Their Thai Brussels
Sprouts Salad is also delicious!
It was valentine’s night so it was super busy and service was a little slow. Food was great though.
-Hot rock was great
-Sea bass was good
-Sushi was moderate
Food was a bit boring and bland. Service was excellent! Cocktails were great as well. We ordered the Hawaiian yellowtail which was good. Then it went mostly downhill... the short rib potstickers were soggy and the sauce was nothing special. The rock shrimp was fine, but the sauce was not Asian inspired at all. The whole fried fish was out of stock, but they ended up doing halibut pieces instead. Was a similar batter to the rock shrimp, just more fried food.
When I think whole fried fish from an Asian restaurant, I do not think of heavily battered fish nuggets. The 3 sauces were uninspired and hardly Asian. One was just ponzu, the second was the same Mayo based sauce as the shrimp, and the 3rd was a bland pesto(??). The glass noodles that were under the fish nuggets tasted like nothing. Literally zero flavor :( The Brussels sprouts were good.
Dessert was really good: we got the white chocolate bread pudding—yum!
As always, the food was AMAZING! It is by far one of our favorite places to eat in Dallas! Two items that we get every time and are not to be missed, The Dragon Lady pressed sushi and the Wagyu Beef!
Everything was amazing. I thought I had good sushi before but this was excellent sushi. The quality was amazing. I will definitely be going back. Our servicer wasnt the greatest but I cant hold that against the quality of the food.
Our waiter forgot many things we ordered and when I asked him to help guide our group of 8 on ordering, he was not helpful at all. I love shinsei and have been here many many times. This was the first time I had a less than perfect experience.
Food was amazing. It was a bit loud and drafty downstairs.
Very good food and drinks! Service was okay, but when I asked for the house red they brought the most expensive glass of cab they had. Server was more of an order taker than someone creating an experience.
Great service and lower noise level on the enclosed patio! You can actually hear and enjoy your dinner guests there- inside, it is too loud to bother. It was disappointing that they had such limited vegetarian offerings--Only 3 salads and edamame-- at an "ASIAN" sushi restaurant? That's surprising. I hope Shinsei will consider adding more non-meat options as so many people are changing their eating habits. It doesn't seem they have evolved much in the 15 or so years they've been there.
Shinsei is always good with great ambience and energy. The ribs and potstickers were great appetizers and the fried rice is my favorite. The bill is also always very high. Much higher than other comparable Asian restaurants.
It’s quit energetic but loud and difficult to hear at times. Also, cold temps. Food and service fantastic! Tried the shrimp wontons for the first time. So delish!
Made a reservation
Didn’t sit for 40 minutes and didn’t get drinks for another 20
For that price point I won’t be going back
We celebrated my adult daughter’s birthday. Our waitress, Tammy, made everything fun and festive!!!
Great dinner and made a good impression on an out of town guest.
Food = greatness!!!!, HOT SPOT/Seen and be seen = Awesome!!!!, Service from start to finish = GREATNESS...… lots of folks having good time, unfortunately table next to us, dude was using his STADIUM VOICE vs indoor voice.... maybe because he was a beer drinker. Sake/Wine typically = quiet cozy conversation……….
I must've been to Shinsei 50 times. That should say it all.
We LOVE going to Shinsei ! Great service and food. It is fun place to go with friends or on a date.
The food and service were very good to excellent. Really enjoy the outdoor patio.
Fabulous as always
Conversation was difficult. Would be better if you sit next to each other. Across the table was hard to hear. While the server was very nice it was too slow. Took too long to get his attention as he had lots of tables. While this slower place would be fine on the weekend, it was not good for week night.
Went expecting to be wowed by the sushi. I was not. At all. I won’t be back.
Always very good sushi!
Wedding proposal dinner.
Tammy was amazing.
Food is always top shelf.
phénoménal sushi, the rolls, and what appears to be a whole fish that has been fried (one must try) definetely go back !
This is one of the best restaurants in town- most caring and aware staff, incredible variety of dishes (raw and cooked) and some of the most flavorful food I’ve ever tasted.
(They serve Friday lunch, but heads up- day parking is a challenge.)
Always a great meal. Very accommodating - they moved our table so we could be more private. Love that the underside of the tables are carpeted to absorb noise - clever.
Everything was pretty wonderful. It was a little noisy and we might have felt a little rushed. But overall great. Food is just amazing. The Black miso cod is outstanding
Amazing experience, as always. Shinsei is consistently (10+ years) one of the very best restaurants in Dallas. My go-to place for delicious food, impeccable service, and a fabulous bar.
Food, as usual, was very good!
Shinsei is perfect for special occasions and
everyone had a good time at the birthday
Beautiful place, great food, attentive staff - our waiter forgot to substitute Forbidden Rice with another veggie, then did so with delicious crispy brussel sprouts food is just outstanding, sushi divine. Waiting area cool decor, bar area happy and bright - will return.
Made reservation at 8 pm - could not sit us until 8:25 pm!
Amazing as always!
Great food. Very great accommodations. Would recommend the restaurant for a date or anniversary.
Amazing food and Eduardo was a friendly and excellent waiter! Eating in the enclosed patio with heaters was lovely.
My family of four (including 2 teenage sons) had such a great time at Shinsei. Each of us were able to sample many different flavors and each bit was fantastic. The food was flavorful without being heavy and the service was excellent.
