My daughter and I had dinner at the sushi bar and had a great time. Very attentive service and very reasonable wait times for food. The Brussel sprouts were my daughters favorite. The presses sushi was very good and so was the prime beef cooked on a hot stone.
Delicious food, quick service, enjoyable atmosphere
Sushi was awful. Manager tried to convince me it was my taste buds. It wasn’t- my taste buds know fishy fish
Nothing special but very expensive
Great service and food was above our expectations.
Best sushi we have had in years
Had been recommended this restaurant by so many....terrible ambience, food indifferent, a husband and wife “table neighbour” was downright rude (she was sweet to begin with and then ended up telling my girlfriend that she was getting on and should consider freezing her eggs...I’m still dumbfounded).
We sent one Sashimi back (it was a unique dish and the waiter was excellent and accommodating and insisted on swapping it) but the follow up sashimi was oily (not needed) and unfortunately the chef left a hair to top our final dish off....mistakes happen I don’t blame the chef....
Sadly no where near what it could be & expensive given what we had.
I think we just had a terrible unfortunate evening given the rave reviews. I have been to the “other Japanese / Asian fusion restaurant in town and it’s hands down 10x better.”
Weird - also no background music....this place could be amazing, it’s just not what it could be.
Such a shame.
Abby was fantastic - the food is always delicious- the bananas foster cotton candy was everything!
Even though the food was excellent, the sake half-price on Monday night, and the service friendly and efficient, I just could not leave quickly enough. The experience reminded me of when I once had my head in an MRI machine: claustrophobic and with deadening noise. It was impossible to hear the person across the table from me, let alone carry on a conversation, and the tables were crammed together. I had a similar reaction several years ago, but had hoped that the place would have changed.
Restaurant has nice decor and food presentation is good, however we found the food was mediocre in taste and was very overpriced.
I absolutely love this restaurant. I come often and love the food and the atmosphere. I have to say Khalil is AMAZING and makes the experience even better. I always request him because I love his recommendations always spot on and he is so personable and fun.
Great service and great food
Excellent as usual!
Dinner with my wife. Food was outstanding, and server (“Z”) was absolutely amazing. I’d go back just for the great service, so with great food as well, I’ll absolutely be back next time I’m in Dallas.
As always, service and food were delicious!
This was our first time to visit. We met friends for wine and dinner. The wait staff was friendly and made the dining experience special. The chairs were comfortable and the atmosphere was outstanding. Most of all the food was absolutely delicious. I look forward to dining there again.
As always the food was fantastic - spicy as needed, well balanced and exciting. Our servers Rachel was attentive, suggestive and funny. Always save room for the cotton candy flavor of the day!
Always a favorite - highly recommend. Shinsei is a neighborhood goto that's now in its tenth year!
Great sushi spot. We tried a pressed sushi roll which was delicious. Everything was excellent, except for the timing of the food. They were busy and struggled to bring out our dishes in a timely manner. But, 5/5 on everything else.
Wildly popular, the fare is very good. High quality fish for sashimi and highlights were the chicken lettuce wraps and shrimp dumplings. Unfortunately we were seated next to a large birthday party of sorority sisters who were deafeningly loud.
Always exceptional food, my favorite sushi restaurant in Dallas. The Thai Fried Rice is so delicious and the leftovers are even better the next day.
As always, great food!
Tempura batter way too thick and it was served with soy sauce instead of the classic light dipping sauce. Our order of Brussels sprouts never came. The Peking duck was very average.
Tables are too close to each other and make good dinner conversation impossible.
The food is very good. I recommend lettuce wraps and potstickers for starters , followed by ribs and tempura green beans.
Great dinner and fun night
Love it! Service and food are outstanding and 1/2 bottles of wine on Monday are fun!
Shinsei continues to shine on the Dallas restaurant scene. The sushi is excellent and numerous choices! There is also a wonderful Pan-Asian menu - the black cod might be the best fish in Dallas. Wonderful food. Great Service. Authentic. Consistent. Worth the trip.
Had an amazing anniversary dinner here. Love it!
One of our favorites. High qullaity food and excellent service.
Awesome food and service
Our server Khalil was outstanding! Really went above and beyond to make the night fantastic !
Another great experience all around, from cocktails & wine to the food complimented by the energetic atmosphere. Staff was very gracious & knowledgeable in helping us decide between specific options which were perfect to our tastes. Thank you! ~ Jessica
Shinsei is our go to restaurant for Asian fusion. Always consistently terrific in every way. We love these guys and have been frequent patrons for the past seven years.
We had the chef’s pairings and each new dish was better than the last. We were honestly satisfied after the first round but could Not stop eating as everything was so perfect and delicious! Impeccable service and beautiful restaurant. We both said, we need to eat here more!
Due to my usual last minute planning had not been able to get a weekend reservation to Shinsei on several tries over last couple of years. Decided to use mid-week birthday dinner as an opportunity to try again. Made reservation on Monday night for a 7:45 pm (earliest available) Wednesday night slot. Restaurant was completely packed on arrival, however, our table for two was being cleared and cleaned as we arrived--so no wait. Service is a little bit confusing in that waiter seems to only take order and bring bar drinks. Runners bring food and fill water/tea. Somewhere in that mix, our appetizer edamame never arrived--at least not before all of our main course sushi had arrived and we were half way through it. That was also first time waiter checked on us at which point we decided it was too late for edamame and asked him to take it off the bill, which he did with no problems and an apology. The sushi was spectacular--some of the best quality we've tasted in Dallas. Tried out the premium sake tasting flight at $25. Waiter identified each one by name, but other than that--no information on them or suggestion on the order to try them. The sakes were fine--but maybe not worth the price without some sizzle to go along with it; we might as well have just ordered a couple full sized glasses. We did not order any other food besides sushi, but based on the taste of the sushi alone, we would recommend and come back.
I love mackerel and the presentation was simply amazing! Wish I had remembered to take a photo. Everything ordered was fresh and delicious. We made reservations but decided to eat at the sushi bar for a change and will do that in the future because we were able to see food prep up close. I recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Call or use Opentable for reservations. Plan on valet parking.
Our favorite sushi restaurant! Everything was excellent!
We've been going here for years and it never disappoints. Be sure and try the short rib dumplings, amazing!
