   We used to love coming here but this time - maybe because it’s Mother’s day and it was busier than usual, we were sat outside, which was totally fine. Our waiter didn’t come out to take our order for a while. There was another table outside with us. In which the waiter did come out to service them. But he did not stop to ask us if we wanted anything to drink, at least, for about 10 minutes. Once he finally took our order. Another staff (not our waiter) came out to serve the food and we started eating since we were so hungry - without our drinks and without the condiments (soy sauce and wasabi). It took some time for our waiter to finally come out. By the time he came out (30 mins later) we already got almost everything and the drinks. He finally asked us if we were missing anything, which we did. He brought us the missing dishes eventually. At this moment we were getting full but we were not happy with the services. We are usually very patient. But the hiccups today ruined our mood. At the end we added one more item on the menu and the waiter seemed to maybe forget to order because it was sushi rolls. That sealed the deal for us. We were there for an hour and a half total - and this time we were far from happy. We did tip well but I just want to say we will think twice of coming here again.

   I have been a customer at the Shimogama in Chandler since it opened. When the father handed the business to the son in law and daughter the Chandler restaurant maintained its high level of exceptional food and service. Today we went to Shimogama in Gilbert and this would be the tenth time we have been here. Food is mediocre and today service was worst ever. There were people standing for 15 minutes waiting to be seated. They also had two waiters which was insufficient for the amount of patrons present. I would not return to this restaurant. If I want premium Japanese food I will go to the. Handler location. I did call and leave a message for the daughter and son in law but so far have not heard from them. The father and owner of Shimogama is a prince of a gentleman and would not be happy with my review. Last but not least we ordered one of the special sushi’s l, the uni and it was sub par.

   The tables ate too close together. Overpriced for subpar sushi. Overall experience was fine nothing wrong but nothing special.

   Food was amazing as usual. But the server tonite seemed a little off. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and small dishes and the wagyu ribeye. After about 30 mins, the ribeye came out first. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure steak should have been the last thing served, certainly not the first. Other than that the food was top tier as usual.

   Always get great service here and although it’s on the pricey side, the quality of their sashimi is one of the best in Phoenix

   Excellent all around. Sat at the sushi bar. Cocktails were clever and tasty. All the food was fresh and delicious. The oxtail roll was different but amazing.

   Best Japanese food we have had in AZ. Closest to what we had in Japan. We have gone back several times.

    This place is slightly smaller and more casual than the other location, but the food could not have been better, and the service was sweet and friendly and unpretentious. Yes, it’s not cheap, but it’s also not overpriced. Everything was superb, and I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Truly wonderful. We were there on a weeknight when it was very quiet, so I can’t speak to what the noise level might be like on a weekend. We really had a lovely evening of conversation and exceptional food.
