Food was good and very reasonable
But we’re rushed out within 1 hr 20 min after ordering $170 for two with two table. Though our time limit was 1hr 30 min simply because the other customers arrived and waited on their feet.
The one Japanese woman server was horribly rude and the other was stressed though one new Japanese server was nice.
The first two were with a kind of attitude when we spoke in Japanese and if Japanese people lose the politeness in their language, their speech become very obnoxious and rude.
I thought perhaps the restaurant was busy and the servers were stressed but not really. Actually we saw one server was hugging with the well known customers when they arrived in front of us.
Really hugging during COVID-19 pandemic? It’s amazing.
We decide to talk in English next time.
I would recommend this place to everyone. Their lunch special was all worth it for the price we pay. We also had a complimentary cake for my daughter’s bday. Our waiter was very nice & accommodating to our request. We also didn’t feel rush when we eat like some of the waiter I’ve encountered.
It was a nice place with good food and great views
Had a great time. The patio was very comfortable. The food was great as always. The sushi chefs are awesome. The server was very attentive and right on time.
Perfect setting, food and service!
Really great sushi and service, just a little pricey. Will definitely go back!
Great spot during Covid-19. 2nd floor patio overlooking ocean.
Lots of umbrellas so great for sunsets.
I could go on and on about the amazingly delicious and quality of sushi and how I would always suggest because it’s never disappointed. It’s a place when someone asks you were to go... you’re confidence to say this is my go to and they won’t be disappointed. The ambience is incredible and I want to mention how unbelievable and accommodating everyone working there was… During difficult times with reservations hard to come by wherever you go, I was running late and due to the circumstances they showed nothing but sincere professionalism and made the experience even better seemingly effort to let me sit back relax and enjoy another great experience, but I think that’s just what to expect with an amazing group working on every aspect to make it only the best because they truly love the passion behind the experience for everyone.
Great sushi. Very fresh. Toro was outstanding.
Wonderful service and amazing food & drinks. Perfection!
I would hate to give our secret away, but this place is awesome. We recently moved to Del Mar and came across this gem. My husband and I have been twice in the last month and the experience gets better each time. The food is amazing with many choices, the service is wonderful and in pandemic times is really safe. The outdoor patio is perfect for social distancing with waitstaff wearing gloves and masks. We can’t wait to go back for date night again in two weeks. Drunken Whale sake is our favorite!!
Amazing sushi in a beautiful setting.
Have been here before, always consistent. Have become addicted to sitting at bar and chatting with the chefs.
We requested the nigiri omakase. In addition, I thought I read on the open table or yelp! page there was a sake pairing. There is not. But a staff member was kind enough to offer sake by the glass in a traditional pour (glass in a box, where the sake pour over flows the glass). With a pleasant description of the traditional method of drinking the sake.
All the sake choices were phenomenal and I enjoyed them immensely.
The nigiri was excellent quality with items not often prepared in most sushi bars today. Toro, ika (squid) and mirugai (geoduck clam), very fresh uni (sea urchin) also served was salmon, black cod, sea bream, ama ebi (spot prawn, here), negi toro hand roll, unagi and I requested a Saba-gari-Shiso hand roll to finish.
The sushi is served one piece per person and starts at $45/pp and goes up depending on how much you request in addition.
This ended being pretty pricey for a party of four; but all in all I felt it was worth it.
We all sat at the sushi bar, ordered an assortment of main dishes and appetizers and each one was exactly what we had hoped for: Excellent presentation, and high-quality ingredients. Service was perfectly attentive but not overly so. Chefs were a great mix of friendly and professional.
We all enjoyed our evening & will definitely return.
Wonderful birthday celebration! They were very
We ate on the heated patio; there was intermittent very light drizzle, but it was not a problem and we were quite warm. We love the variety of small plates. The small scallops were particularly luscious. Topped off the evening with the mango mochi - delightful!
Service was terrible. Very selective to serve customers
Food was not worthy the money at all. Over salty or over sour.
Been to Tokyo many times but this is not how authentic should be. Won’t go back.
Great spot for Japanese mains and sushi. Great service as well.
Too much wasabi in all the sushi
I've been to another local place called Kinoyume and I prefer it over this place, distance-wise, food-wise, and the price is cheaper too. I also believe the ambiance is just as comparable. If you want to talk to the sushi chefs, or just be around a social and kind environment, then this is the place as the service is super polite. As an awkward college student, I however can't say that I thrive in this environment.
The food was tolerable. We ordered clam soup and the size of the clams were deplorable. We went during Valentine's day and instead of ordering the Valentine's special ($110+ for two people, including wagyu beef, which we didn't want), we asked for Omakase. We were given a plate of assorted sashimi for $90/two people. It was probably worth $30-40 of fish. This was a very disappointing experience.
For the first time in my life I had to send back a sushi roll. My girlfriend and I both took a bite of a roll and the fish tasted rancid. Scallop dish was small and overcooked. Bill was over $130 and we really didn’t eat much. Won’t be back
Valentine’s Day! Very good service and traditional Japanese cuisine.
Love sitting st the sushi bar and chatting with the chefs.
Service was slow but we weren’t in a hurry so that was fine by us. They should have had more servers that night.
It was not an authentic Japanese restaurant. The sashimi and sushi quality was the one of Japanese supermarkets as I read on someone’s comments on one review site. No worth spending money and time here. Disappointed.
The service, food and ambiance were excellent as always.
best Japanese food at SD! the staff are friendly and the view is great. you can see the pacific sunset at the patio.
Authentic perfection. Best sushi in San Diego
Have been coming here for years. Most authentic Japanese food in the area. Took our friends from Japan to Shimbashi and they loved it. Sushi is good and there is a huge selection of small dishes to choose from.
Amazing anniversary dinner
Amazing food and service
Amazing! So fresh and delicious
The best authentic izakaya and on omikaze in San Diego. Sake selection is off the hook!
Incredible service, food and entertainment by the very outgoing chefs! The only complaint is that the hostess did not check us in when we arrived so it appeared that we did not honor our reservation. Other than that it was an AWESOME date night - we will be back:}
My favorite sushi spot here in SD, plus the Shabu Shabu is plenty so share for two.
Though not perfect, it's some of the best authentic Japanese food in San Diego North County. Service was good also with a couple of minor hiccups. It was great that the restaurant also gave us the best table knowing that we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
Great rolls and sake selection, very chill outside patio, looked like the sushi bar inside was pretty cool too. A little expensive, but probably justified. Would recommend.
Everything was wonderful. The chef is truly outstanding and it’s the only Sushi bar I can think of with a lovely view
