Shijo Sushi

Went there for a family dinner - great freshly prepared food (we had Sushi in all varieties), good service, nice location. Just a tiny little bit high priced.

This was our first visit to Shijo. The service was very good. The menu was varied and unique. The premium sake was a nice treat. The food was very good. The noise level was quiet. All four of us enjoyed our meal and had a pleasant dining experience. I look forward to visiting Shijo Sushi again.

It was our first time and we loved it. Our neighbour highly recommended it and we are so happy she did. The servers and chefs were very friendly. The fish is the freshest we've had in Calgary. The blue fin tuna was absolutely amazing. The food presentation was beautiful. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely eat here again.

So the last time I wrote a review it was a quick one about it being my go to spot. I’m born and raised in Vancouver and grew up on amazing sushi, I moved to Calgary in 2016 and dreaded every time my boyfriend took me to a new sushi place, hoping it would bring a smile to my face. I’ve tried several and all I’ve wanted is good sushi. Well, about 10 months ago I stumbled upon this place (happened to be a 5 min walk from our home) and for the first time living in Calgary I found a sushi restaurant where the fish tastes delicious. The sushi is fresh, the daily specials are delicious and the service is amazing. I have and would recommend Shijo a must to try! You won’t be disappointed!

Phenomenal food, ambiance, service could have been better, but did not detract from a superb experience

This was a really wonderful surprise. We decided on sushi, and Kensington was a convenient meeting place, but none of us had ever been to Shijo before. Nobody was in the mood to choose, so we asked our server to tell the chef to decide for the four of us. Everything that arrived at the table was exquisite - beautiful and really, really tasty. And the final surprise - it was a bargain - just over a hundred dollars for our four healthy portions. I'll definitely be back...often.

We use to eat at the sushi restaurant that was in the same location several years ago (the food was always excellent) so when this Sushi restaurant opened we thought we should give it a go. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the service was also good. We plan to go again.

The food was good, but the service was awful. We did a reservation for 8 people, we got there at 6:30, and we decided to order all the food at the same time. We got the first dish on our table by 7:45!!, and I was the last one who got the dish on the table, by the time I got mine it was 8:30!! In the meantime we did not have a person explaining why the waiting-time was so long, or at least an appetizer. At the end of the night, we got wrong bills, they were charging us for sushi rolls that we never got.

Service with a smile! I can’t say enough about how great the teamwork was with the staff & our server was incredibly friendly. Sushi was delicious too so we’ll be back!

We saw some positive reviews about Shijo so we checked it out. This sushi place is so fresh and delicious. It’s clean and bright inside. There’s an attention to detail in every bite. Warm friendly service too. Favourite rolls are the Kiki roll (Cajun spicy shrimp, avocado) and caterpillar roll. This is now our local neighbourhood sushi place.

Great sushi but the service was so slow we actually had to tell them not the make the rest of the food as we had to leave. We got our appetizers and drinks in a normal time frame and then we waited 30 minutes as we watch other people who got there after us get served and all the "skip the dishes" guys come and go. Some ended up arriving about 10 minutes later and it was great but an hour to get a plate of sushi and sashimi please!
Take out is secondary to the people who are in your restaurant.

We had an amazing experience here! The food was delicious, the ambiance was great, the staff were incredibly friendly and the presentation of the different dishes was so magical. Seriously, the best sushi in Calgary bar none! This will be our new go to place. Thanks for such great service and even allowing us to bring in our own cake to celebrate our mom’s 55th birthday!

My husband and I booked a late reservation and it was quiet and perfect. We were greeted by the server right away and the owners came over to check on us and make sure everything was great. Awesome sushi and rolls, good wine and great atmosphere. Perfect night!

Everything from beginning to end (yes, even the candies they give you with the check) was fantastic. Great selection of rolls, my family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed everything.
