The menu is limited, the food is overly spicey, example the Cornish Game Hen. Thank goodness we do not require a gluten free or nut free menu as they are unable to accommodate. They are too pretentious for the product they provide.

I thought our server (male) was sloppily dressed. Shift can pick that up a notch. I ordered a Black Russian and it came not prepared properly. They got it right second time around. Having said that I love the restaurant. Don’t let the quality slide.

We had a wonderful time and a delicious meal! It was a bit noisy and I wouldn't bring my elderly mother there as she wouldn't be able to hear the conversation. But for lunch, it was great. We also shopped at the gift shop afterwards. What a great selection of items, especially the kid's toys!

Food was incredible. I’ve been here a few times now and I am always blown away by the quality of the food. Service this last time was very subpar. Our meals took 40 minutes and they were a bit cold - so it was definitely the servers fault not the chefs. We all ordered espresso’s after our meals and they were cold haha - iced espresso anyone? Not much attention to coming to the table when the restaurant wasn’t even that busy which lost out on extra drinks. Luckily the food is very very amazing because I’ve had very mixed reviews about service every time. Definitely a place to check out if you haven’t been as it still isn’t that busy most times! Kudo’s to the chefs! Managers need to up their game with their servers.

Wonderful service right from the start. Our waitress was amazing, went above and beyond when she learnt of the sage & nut allergies. Mentioned we were celebrating our friends anniversary and she let us know a very nice white wine to select. Menu is small but makes it easier to choose from. The meals we had were enough for us appetite size. Desserts were delicious.

The space is lovely and the evening started off very well. A variety of cocktails are offered and two of us had excellent drinks, Remai(n) Calm and a marguerita. The meals were very good as well, smoked white fish on toast apps, Cornish hen, which is quite large and would be fine to share, pickerel was nicely prepared and tasty and tartare was delicious. Service through the meal was attentive and not overbearing.
Then it came to a grinding halt. We had a 1/2 to get to the theatre when we ordered our dessert and coffee. We left before it came. Our server never came to our table in that 25 minutes. Blew the whole deal. Started out great and turned very bad. Shame.

The menu at Shift is small but diverse, relying on local ingredients for many of their dishes. Everything is prepared with care and attention to detail. They have an interesting cocktail list, a good wine and beer selection, and an amazing view.

First (and likely last) visit. Great location, even with the noisy freeway close. Menu unimaginative - chicken pot pie and macaroni cheese (the latter at $23 with all the optional add-ons). One main dish good, the other overwhelmed by excessive salty ingredients and/or salt. Ice cream, sorbet and coffees very good. Drinks of the Brinks Truck variety. Alcohol sales are an important revenue stream for restaurants, but C$60 for a bottle of indifferent pinot noir does not encourage future visits. Difficult to find BC or Ontario wines on the list. Usually in a good restaurant one has a choice among several intriguing dishes on the menu; not the case with Shift. Perhaps the issue is that management is not quite sure of which type of restaurant Shift should be: exciting (but a little pricey); sort of middle of the road but with no clear map; or simply meandering. There is excellent food in an increasing number of Saskatoon restaurants; Shift has a long way to go. Lastly, given the talent in Saskatoon, why is Shift managed from Ontario?

We had a delicious lunch/brunch with very inexpensive caesars. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I was delighted to meet the manager, James.
I had one ( and only one ) bad experience previously. This fact was recognized with a "comped" meal this time.
I'll continue to return for good food, service and ambiance

We enjoyed a small dining experience at your establishment .this was not my first visit and we all had a great time. The waiter served us in a timely manner and accommodated some of us with drink choices not on your menu. The food was tasty and the portions generous. My guests and I had a very positive experience. I will come again.

Been for lunch on 4 occasions with different companions. Overall my impression is good. The outdoor patio is very pleasant but could really use more umbrellas over the tables for some shade during the hot part of the day. Nice to see some new items on the menu for the summer but good to keep some of the popular favourites, too.

A previous visit to the Remai Gallery meant we were familiar with the location of Shift and river view deck. We were really looking forward to our lunch! However, I regret not following the advice of many previous patrons who gave unfavourable reviews. The hostess was friendly as was the bartender but the server, wearing a too casual t-shirt and jeans, was condescending and not very knowledgeable about the food offerings. In time, the food might live up to the venue, but not yet. Our wine was good but pricey given that we chose the least expensive wines on the list. My husband's frittata was really just a glorified omelette. Lacking any good salad offerings, I chose the squid from the appetizer section. It looked unappetizing and tasted worse. The wedge of lemon provided the only flavour. The squid and noodles were bland and the warmed cucumbers were extremely bitter. The server never checked until we were done eating. When I mentioned to her that my appie was disappointing, she argued with me saying, "That surprises me because it's one of our most popular." I would have preferred if she had said that she would convey my comment to the chef. I did not ask for, nor expect, a free meal! There are many great restaurants in Saskatoon that we have visited on our numerous trips to Saskatoon. However, Shift is not one... yet. Let's hope that the menu improves soon to match the beautiful venue.

We had a great meal and we really loved the young lady who was serving us but I have a couple of concerns. The first was when I phoned to make a change to our reservation the lady who answered the phone was not at all interested in my reservation number and seemed somewhat disinterested in my reservation. The second, and most important, was that you asked if the reservation was for a special occasion - which it was. It was for my wife's birthday. When you asked about the occasion and I acknowledged that it was her birthday I expected that you would in some way recognize it. But you didn't and I was somewhat puzzled that you didn't. Had I known that you were not going to do anything I would have made arrangements on my own. I just needed better clarification on expectations to go with your querie.
Thank you

I have eaten at Shift many times but never have I had such a bad experience! Where was management ? I took my grand daughter there for Sunday brunch as a special treat. We were seated at 1:10 and finally served at 2:10. One of the meals was cool with the avocado turning dark. The meals were discounted by 50% but I would have preferred an apology from the manager. Apparently there is more than one. As I was leaving I attempted to express my frustration with an individual who said he was a manager but did not know of any problem. I have a reservation at this restaurant for August 5th and am most concerned that this restaurant with so much potential has "gone down hill"

First time dining here and the food was great. I had the Cornish Hen as my main dish and the meat was juicy and cooked just right. The chickpea fries appetizer is a must try. I have read a couple reviews of people saying the menu is small but I disagree. For the quality of food the choices are just right in my opinion. Was too windy to go on the patio this time but will definitely be back to try out more menu items. Our waitress was very friendly & knowledgeable on any questions we had regarding menu/drinks. Atmosphere is modern and sophisticated, great place to go on a date night. Excited to see what they serve during the Fall/Winter Months. 5 stars.

I was expecting it to cost a little more than the average breakfast place because it’s not your average restaurant, but I had to check my bill twice when I got it to see that there wasn’t a mistake. I could not believe how much it was for two of the three tiny portions of food we got. Very disappointed in that.

The ambience and location is what Brings me to shift with my friends. I find the menu challenging both for evening and lunch. The price fixe is good value but the dessert option is a “miss”. I have had it several times and it has not been fresh and appetizing. A friend ordered the hamburger. It was “so so”. The Frittata was bland and more architectural interesting than tastey. The chef created perogies were good as was the chicken salad. The wine list is good.

I have dined at Shift a few times and although we love the setting, was disappointed with a limited brunch menu on the weekend vs a regular lunch menu. We enjoyed the menu item we shared but ordered a side of fries unaware that fries came with our meal. I believe that should have been pointed out to us. The salt shakers were inadequate. The servers were all polite and cheery. The setting as usual enjoyable but would think twice before making this our special occasion dining spot next time when other options are out there. As members at Remai...hope we get back to special dining for a special spot thanks for reading.

This was a dinner for our anniversary. The hostess acknowledged that, the server did not (no biggie). Service was unbearably slow, so much so that they gave us $35 off the bill. But it didn’t compensate. Pickerel was good, albeit plain. Turnip not cooked, broccolini cold, charred corn woody. My husband’s was better, but he said the pork was bland. Coconut cream tart - it took a bit to saw through the crust. We won’t be back.

There’s no beating the location—perfect view of the river—especially on the patio. I had a good, but pricey ($22, $2 extra for avocado) Cobb Salad for lunch. Had hoped it would be on dinner menu but alas, no. I had the spicy Asian Hake. They couldn’t get hake so replaced with pickerel that didn’t work well. Fish was over cooked and slightly rubbery, served with turnips and broccolini, both undercooked and boring. They brought the wrong salad, which turned out to be $5 more. My husband got the steak, which he liked, especially the sauce, but fries were cool and not fresh. Good pour of rose wine, only one local beer—with all the new talent in S’toon, that’s a shame. All in all, I go for the view, not the food, and will try to stick to lunch or just drinks in the future. Wish they had a bar menu.

We have eaten twice at Shift - we were there for a Sunday brunch and for an evening meal. We love the venue - dining near the South Saskatchewan River and supporting our new art gallery is wonderful. However, we have found the food to not live up to our hopes. We have found it to be "OK" but not at all memorable, or really delicious. We would not return for the food - especially for an expensive meal - but will definitely be back for a glass of wine and perhaps some appies, to enjoy the location. We are returning for lunch this week - this will help us to form a more complete opinion of the food being offered at Shift. Our hope is that the menu will become as "yummy" and memorable as the setting of this restaurant/art gallery.
