We had a very good meal! Atmosphere was great. Menu could be slightly enhanced. Definitely worth a try!
I think perhaps the wait staff needs a little more training -- re: keeping the customers apprised of when they will take their orders, when they will bring the drinks, etc., particularly if they also have a large party to deal with... The hostess marched back and forth and back and forth to the kitchen, and never seemed to be doing anything particularly useful. The food was very good as was the wine.
This was my first time at Shift. I had a friend from out of town with me. Never in the entire evening did we feel rushed to finish up and leave. The staff were wonderful and all were well versed in all aspects of the menu. We even had the chef come by to apologize for the wait for our main meal, which we hadn't even noticed! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family!
Brunch was unfortunately a let-down. The menu sounded wonderful but the meals my friend and I got were overly greasy and everything tasted like oil. As a result, I felt I paid a lot of money ($30 for breakfast and latte) for a meal I didn’t enjoy at all. Very disappointing. Will not be returning or recommending to others.
It was the first time our group ate at Shift and we were not disappointed. The quality was excellent, and her recommendations were spot on. Excellent atmosphere, outstanding service, and wonderful food - we had a really great time!
Everything was exceptional
We went for a special evening with close friends. The food is inventive and interesting with enough variety to please different tastes from the adventurous to the conservative. The service was attentive but not intrusive. It was a quiet night so there was not a pile of noise. The views are exceptional. I would like to see them get decaf beans for their espresso machine.
The view is great. Can't wait for summer and dining on the patio and watching the river and the people go by. Service was friendly, food was fresh and well prepared. I really like the modern décor. A very good fit with the Remai Modern.
This was our second visit to Shift and enjoyed it all over again. Given the expanse of the room along with its design, it would be better at some point if the dining area could be made a little more intimate and not feel as much like an open cafeteria. The menu, despite it being somewhat limited, offers something for everyone. The menu items we’ve tried thus far (pork chop, beef, poultry) as well as a couple of the appetizers have all been extremely good. The price point for any of the entrees is very reasonable especially the beef striploin which was exceptional. The red wine selection is limited and overpriced based on what these selections sell for retail and from what I’ve seen in other restaurants. Overall, the food quality is very good and the southern view of the river is relaxing to say the least. Hard pressed not to try Shift again at some near point in our future.
Great! They accommodated my dietary restrictions, which really helped
Everything was excellent - except the lack of good decaf espresso.
First time in and we were impressed, waiter very personable and i sure enjoyed not being adressed with
Hi guys and what can i grab you to start with
Also great that the table was not cleared one at a time , but waited till we were all done
Love cloth napkins ,
So will be back
overall, a very nice place to dine... love the surroundings. Service is always great and friendly. Menu could be improved with more choices.
Limited menu selection but quality and presentation very good. Servers knowledgeable, helpful and attentive.
Amazing place to have drinks with girlfriends. I also had squid appetizer which was delicious - I will be returning to have this again!
Overall an average experience at Shift. Service was definitely laking. We were seated and given a cocktail menu but no food menus. We ordered our two of their signature cocktails one riverview and seabuckthorn sour and they got one of the drinks wrong. We had to wait 15 minutes to get food menus. We had the perogies to start and ordered the grilled strip loin and prok chop. The perogies and the prok chop were quite good and the strip loin was very average.
It was a new experience to eat at the Shift. I had been riding my bike close to the windows of this restaurant for many months and decided to take my friend there for her 60th birthday. We enjoyed reading the different choices and descriptions on the menu. Very interesting menu. The waiter was very friendly and pleasant. Not sure I would go back for Brunch though. Might try the Dinner choices at another time.
The food and service were excellent. You can't go wrong with the seed salad, the pickerel or lamb.
The food and service was on point and the follow up on the special instructions too. The bar scene and overall experience was awesome. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for fine dining in saskatoon.
A jewel in the SASKATOON culinary crown. Service was excellent and the food beyond expectations. A large gathering in the gallery above was raucous and we could hear the noise but it was a minor exception to what was a fantastic experience. Try the lamb!
Quality menu done well. Enjoyed the fantastic location on the river in the gallery.
The Chick Pea fries with paprika aioli are the best
The menu is limited, the food is overly spicey, example the Cornish Game Hen. Thank goodness we do not require a gluten free or nut free menu as they are unable to accommodate. They are too pretentious for the product they provide.
Great service and friendly staff. The food was fantastic.
Enjoyed our evening great service and excellent food!
This place was great! It is definitely a hidden gem. Great food, great service and great view of the river. I will definitely return.
Always very pleased with the food and service
I thought our server (male) was sloppily dressed. Shift can pick that up a notch. I ordered a Black Russian and it came not prepared properly. They got it right second time around. Having said that I love the restaurant. Don’t let the quality slide.
We had a wonderful time and a delicious meal! It was a bit noisy and I wouldn't bring my elderly mother there as she wouldn't be able to hear the conversation. But for lunch, it was great. We also shopped at the gift shop afterwards. What a great selection of items, especially the kid's toys!
Food ok. Menu ok. Service could use a little work. Definitely not a memorable evening or experience. Meh.
Food was incredible. I’ve been here a few times now and I am always blown away by the quality of the food. Service this last time was very subpar. Our meals took 40 minutes and they were a bit cold - so it was definitely the servers fault not the chefs. We all ordered espresso’s after our meals and they were cold haha - iced espresso anyone? Not much attention to coming to the table when the restaurant wasn’t even that busy which lost out on extra drinks. Luckily the food is very very amazing because I’ve had very mixed reviews about service every time. Definitely a place to check out if you haven’t been as it still isn’t that busy most times! Kudo’s to the chefs! Managers need to up their game with their servers.
Wonderful service right from the start. Our waitress was amazing, went above and beyond when she learnt of the sage & nut allergies. Mentioned we were celebrating our friends anniversary and she let us know a very nice white wine to select. Menu is small but makes it easier to choose from. The meals we had were enough for us appetite size. Desserts were delicious.
The space is lovely and the evening started off very well. A variety of cocktails are offered and two of us had excellent drinks, Remai(n) Calm and a marguerita. The meals were very good as well, smoked white fish on toast apps, Cornish hen, which is quite large and would be fine to share, pickerel was nicely prepared and tasty and tartare was delicious. Service through the meal was attentive and not overbearing.
Then it came to a grinding halt. We had a 1/2 to get to the theatre when we ordered our dessert and coffee. We left before it came. Our server never came to our table in that 25 minutes. Blew the whole deal. Started out great and turned very bad. Shame.
The menu at Shift is small but diverse, relying on local ingredients for many of their dishes. Everything is prepared with care and attention to detail. They have an interesting cocktail list, a good wine and beer selection, and an amazing view.
First (and likely last) visit. Great location, even with the noisy freeway close. Menu unimaginative - chicken pot pie and macaroni cheese (the latter at $23 with all the optional add-ons). One main dish good, the other overwhelmed by excessive salty ingredients and/or salt. Ice cream, sorbet and coffees very good. Drinks of the Brinks Truck variety. Alcohol sales are an important revenue stream for restaurants, but C$60 for a bottle of indifferent pinot noir does not encourage future visits. Difficult to find BC or Ontario wines on the list. Usually in a good restaurant one has a choice among several intriguing dishes on the menu; not the case with Shift. Perhaps the issue is that management is not quite sure of which type of restaurant Shift should be: exciting (but a little pricey); sort of middle of the road but with no clear map; or simply meandering. There is excellent food in an increasing number of Saskatoon restaurants; Shift has a long way to go. Lastly, given the talent in Saskatoon, why is Shift managed from Ontario?
Lovely ambience to celebrate a birthday with family and friends! Special food - esp the Carmen Corner Pork Chop dish - it was exceptional!! Bravo to Chef Jonathan and the crew at Shift! Also like the change of options in the dessert menu introduced this summer :)
We had a delicious lunch/brunch with very inexpensive caesars. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I was delighted to meet the manager, James.
I had one ( and only one ) bad experience previously. This fact was recognized with a "comped" meal this time.
I'll continue to return for good food, service and ambiance
Great ambiance, interesting menu and food, attentive service, and good value including the wine list which was a pleasant surprise. Very cool and classy restaurant. Will definitely be back.
Very unique and very good food you won’t be disappointed
We enjoyed a small dining experience at your establishment .this was not my first visit and we all had a great time. The waiter served us in a timely manner and accommodated some of us with drink choices not on your menu. The food was tasty and the portions generous. My guests and I had a very positive experience. I will come again.
