Pleasantly surprised by what a great time we had at Shift. Great food and quantity (we couldn't finish), great service and very friendly staff, lovely view - nice ambience. We will be regulars.
Food was tasty, Portions were bigger then expected. You need to ask for the salt and pepper shaker to be brought to the table.
The eggplant dish was slightly salty. Otherwise it was very good. The server didn't offer us sparkling water but asked the table adjacent to us for their preference.
Our group of four each enjoyed their lunch choice very much. Pleasant staff, appealingly-presented food, beautiful view. Dessert took a very long time which would have been good to know ahead of time, as most people don’t have the same amount of time to linger as they would over dinner.
The food was rich and... strange.
The good and service was excellent. Great ambiance and location. I would definitely recommend The Shift to our friends and family.
The food was great, the price was very fair for the portions and boutique styled restaurant. The environment was even better, I went for a date during lunch time on a Sunday. The view and the setting was beautiful. Unfortunately, our server was not as friendly and frequently forgot about us and our food. I would recommend going during quieter hours and for shorter periods of time. Definitely will be returning again, also for other occasions. :)
I love all the windows and cannot wait to try the patio out int he summer months! The food is great and doesn't take forever to get after you order. The lamb roast is amazing and the chickpea fries are one of my favourite menu items! Can't wait to go back!
Great food, beautiful surroundings and very professional, unpretentious service!
Lovely room and good food. The celery root in the Caesar salad was mushy which kind of caught you by surprise texture wise in an otherwise crunchy salad but other than that everything was very good. The spaetzle with the pork shoulder was great. My only complaint was I wished the portion size of the spaetzle was a bit larger. Spicy apples were amazing
Was a bit disappointed, after ordering, when we received our dinners they had messed up, served my wife the wrong meal. They took the meals back and then we waited until we were served again. My meal was good, my wife ordered pork, it was about an inch and a half thick and dry. For their mistakes they did provide two free glasses of wine and one dessert. The server also indicated that there would be other deductions on the final bill. When I received it it showed the cost (just under $100) and listed some deductions which I thought would be taken off. When I paid, there were no deductions. Just feel like I was misled.
Always great food and service. Have been here a few times now. Lots of vegetarian options. Love the river views!
Really enjoyed it. Good food, fast service, great drinks. One thing it needs is some color. Get some big plants to make it more warm feeling. Little bit too open and cold feeling. Definitely will be back though.
The setting is pretty incredible, with the large windows facing the river. I love "debriefing" at Shift over a drink after a movie or theatre performance; sometimes I might go there just for an afternoon coffee; and I like meeting there with my graduate students for consultation. The very open space and high ceiling promote coming up with creative ideas. My favourite small dish (and now of everybody else that I go there with) are the chickpea fries with aioli sauce, as appetizer, or just by themselves (sometimes two portions). There are great choices for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. I very much enjoy chatting with the people who work there and feel very comfortable all around.
The food and atmosphere were excellent. Although our server was wonderful and chatty and knowledgeable, he seemed to be too busy and we often waited longer than normal for drinks and our ice cream desert took over 20 minutes to arrive. All in all a Great Night however.
Everything was good except cocktails. Ordered a dirty martini. It was not good. Otherwise all was good.
Miranda was a great hostess/server. she makes the evening always more pleasurable. The food was excellent and it's always fun to share the tastes of others in our party.
Great menu, fantastic location. This place will be very popular come spring.
Food was tasty with quality ingredients. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable about the food, and attentive, but did not hover (which I appreciate greatly). Warm and bright atmosphere added greatly to the experience. Will be back again.
Delicious mimosa’s and an excellent brunch menu combined with superb service. We’ll be back 😊
A pleasant and casual end to a tour of the museum!
The meal was really great.... we had the trout, chicken and dumplings and the pork shoulder... everyone really enjoyed the variety of flavours in each dish. I thought the Caesar salad was quite flat tasting... needs some garlic and croutons. We ordered a bottle of the house Chardonnay... it was very reasonably priced for the quality ... the restaurant itself felt like a cafeteria ... it is very stark and open with a very high ceiling... needs some type of dividers and some huge art to make it feel abit more warm and cozy.. but overall a very nice meal for a reasonable price. We will definitely go again!
Food 3 stars- while I did enjoy my pickerel my ceasar salad was strange, and the server didn't know what was in it. She asked the bartender, and he didn't know either. She didn't care to go the kitchen and ask for me. My husband's lamb could have been beef. He really did not enjoy it, saying it tasted like pure "china lily" soy sauce. Lamb is a flavourful meat and it shouldn't be so marinated.
Service 2 stars- Our server had too many tables which I understand can be hard, but was unapologetic about it. She was also unknowledgeable about the food and bar. My husband's wine which he wanted to drink with his entree didn't come till about 20 mins after we received our meals. We could see it sitting on the bar for nearly that whole time. Our server was nice and friendly, but I would expect more out of this restaurant.
Ambience 4 stars- the restaurant is beautiful, however we were sat at a two- top inches away from another occupied two-top when there were many other open tables. I wish they could have spaced us out more. Our conversation was far from private. I also wished there were some comfier options. Bench seating? Booths?
I will likely try this restaurant again for brunch or lunch, but for a romantic evening meal, I wouldn't.
Met friends for dinner with a 5:30pm rez. Got there and within the first 5 mins felt immediately ripped off:
1. Sat farthest away from windows - told that we needed to request window in our reservation. (There is no indication of this on OpenTable description or booking.)
2. Got $ "still" water - this is Saskatoon. This was extremely unexpected & not clarified. No one pays for water knowingly.
This aside - service was average - yes, they did replace cutlery with course changes (which should be standard service...but...I digress). I had the $39 steak - sauce was good, but overall dish not as good as standard steakhouse. For dessert two people at the table ordered the potato crepes - I got a spoon which I did not need. Filling was pretty potato-ey - so I was told.
Overall our bill was pretty steep and food was not that fantastic. Won't be back unless maybe for coffee during summer...so many other places to go that are overall better performers.
We went for dinner and I had the pork shoulder. It was good and the portion size was generous but there was no vegetable or salad on the plate or on the side.
I expect it will be a beautiful spot in the summer. Overall our experience was good but did not WOW us.
It's a beauty. Talented chef . Fantastic ambience. Food that jumps out at you and wants a warm home in your belly
Our server was amazing!!! Miranda went out of her way to make our night awesome - she would make a great manager.
Great first visit to Shift on Valentine’s Day featured a special menu. The food and service were both very good.
Each time my fiancé and I have attended Shift, the service, ambiance and food selection and preparation was/is second to none. The knowledge, courtesy and professionalism exercised by our Server Miranda has made our dining experience at Shift one that we will continue to treasure and certainly recommend to all. All the staff have been absolutely amazing. Thank you Shift for finding a place in our community and in our hearts.

The food was over done and delayed for some reason which made us short for time before the theatre. The menu is lacking lighter options. Great to see 2 fish options. No lighter chicken options. Everything is heavy or very rich and needs balance. I think this Restaurant has great potential especially because of the location.
Icelandic Dinner with Chef Viktór Örn Andrésson
The Waitstaff were pleasant , knowledgeable concerning the wine list and menu items. Cloth napkins and new cutlery with each course is classy. Generous portions and awesome dessert for a delightful evening. Enough choices even for the vegetarian. Will go back.
Food was excellent. wine was very good and the rice pudding was exceptional. Would definitely return.
We had lunch. The food was good and the service was prompt. The ambiance in the Remai Modern is excellent. Menu offers a variety of choices. A bit pricy but well prepared. Wine list is appropriate with decent sized servings.
In fairness, we did not research this much before we made the reservation and when we arrived we found the menu to include very few choices that were appearling to us. The food was probably very good, just not what we normally eat. The scenery outside would make this an incredible experience during the summer months. For an early February the experience was still pretty good and our experience was definitely not worthy of a complaint. Service was very good and everyone seemed very friendly.
Group of 6 of us before Persephone - everyone loved their food Our server was great and it was so handy to just walk down hall and into Persephone !!
Can't wait to sit on the deck this summer .
Such a beautiful venue all around.
Team waitering, which had its drawbacks. Our main server was excellent: knew her wines and was personable and helpful with menu selections. Some of the more junior servers didn't know their wines or, for instance, appear to know how to remove the heavy-handled cutlery on the plates or bowls without awkwardly allowing the cutlery to fall out onto the table, and then having to retrieve them and invert them on the plate or bowl with the working end of the utensil sticking out. Further service training is in order. Have been to Shift a few times now: food good but service iffy and quite slow.
It was an awesome experience!!! It is our new favourite place for date night!! Can’t wait to go back ❤️
Delicious and amazing, but very pricey.
It also tends to be very busy so make a reservation before hand and expect to be there for a while.
It was worth it though.
