Having always been at the heart of Valley life, the 17th century Shibden Mill Inn was originally a corn and spinning mill, before being converted into a country pub in 1890.

Today’s visitors are welcomed with warm hospitality to enjoy first class dining against an inviting backdrop of open fires, low beamed ceilings and a cosy bar. Eleven individually styled bedrooms make comfortable and luxurious retreats, epitomising boutique country style and featuring lots of thoughtful touches.

And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.

We have been coming to the SM for years and always rated is as one of the best locally. However last night 4 of us dined and it was just not up to standard at all. The food wasn’t great and the service pretty shocking - although the waiters and waitresses were lovely - it lacked detail. No-one came to take our wine order -when we did signal them - it was poured as we had nearly finished out starters the 6 cheeses we ordered were put down and not explained. I do hope this is a one off as it’s a lovely pub.

The staff were friendly and service satisfactory. One of the starters; crab & quail egg was fine. Two of the group found the smoked mushroom soup unpalatable: too thick, too strong and far too salty. The pork and smoke courgette pies were also very salty.

We went to celebrate our friends' marriage and hoped for something special. We certainly got that - all the different meals we ordered were a delight- wonderful flavours. Everybody was delighted. The service was perfect - prompt, polite, helpful but never intrusive. The Mill is a gorgeous place and I shall continue to go with friends and family whenever we need a a perfect meal.

Lovely lunch with our 2 dogs in the bar area. We really enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent.

Absolutely fantastic time at Shibden Mill. The setting, atmosphere and food were all exceptional. 10/10 experience and we can’t wait to come back!

restaurant quiet when we arrived early at 5pm. They took note of needing somewhere to put the pram net to the table. Food delicious, separate vegan menu and the mushroom pie was cooked to perfection, served hot with a crispy pastry and plenty of filling. We were split on the green beans, I like them crunchy, my partner would have preferred them a little softer. They provided extra gravy, on request which was gratefully needed, the chips were very chunky and delicious. The desserts were simple but tasty, we had the sticky toffee pudding. The drinks choice was good and included Mocktails which tasted as good as a cocktail. The red wine was good. The staff were all helpful and nothing was too much trouble, they even kept one of the dishes warm while our baby was sorted. We would definitely return for a pleasant evening out.
