Owner, Rebecca, after recently qualifying from Leith's School of Food and Wine took over The Shepherd & Dog in October 2019 with her daughter; sharing a dream to restore the pub to its former glory. After four stressful weeks of refurbishments, the pub re-opened its doors as a Great British gastro-pub; offering cosy furnishings, classic cuisine and a one-of-the-family feeling. Subsequently the pub became busier and busier, until Covid-19 gave the business a harsh blow. However, the team are more than excited to return to their beloved pub! The Shepherd prides itself on its outstanding level of service, paired with a menu that aims to have something for everyone allowing for a truly extraordinary eating experience for all the family.

We have been several times and always find the staff lovely friendly and obliging. Food is usually very nice . Dissatisfied on Mother’s Day food was not up to its usual standards hopefully was just an off day.

Found the waitress very chatty but overpowering , long wait to get starter then main came to quick after starter then had to wait for the waitress to stop talking to other guests

Very good food, home made cheesecake (amazing) and such friendly manager (who took time to come to our table to chat) and waitress who also took time to chat. Have been before and will definitely recommend.

As usual, excellent service and food, this is without a doubt an outstanding pub. So glad it is reasonably close.

First time here & a day before they were closing to refurbish their kitchen Superb service from the whole team but especially our waitress who turned out to be the daughter of the landlady Food was also great value & good quality - if any improvement could be made I would prefer my calamari & pork rib starters cooked slightly less than they were Will definitely go back again - loved it Thank you

Took some friends to our local pub for Sunday Lunch, was not disappointed, the roast was really delicious and we had a lovely lunch. Staff are particularly friendly and happy which always makes a high difference.
