Sheerwater Restaurant at the Hotel Del Coronado Ratings and Reviews
This was our 3rd visit to San Diego and our third dining experience at Sheerwater. I was disappointed this time in the service. We made reservations 2 months in advance and were seated for New Year's Day brunch on time. We had to wait several minutes to get a waiter's attention to ask for coffee and juice and go to the buffet. Our waiter finally stopped by after we returned from the buffet, we still had no drinks and we ordered omelets which we didn't know weren't being fixed in the buffet room. Someone else brought our omelets to the table and we never saw a waiter again until I finally flagged a waiter for a check well after we were finished with our meal, had plates stacked and were obviously ready to go.
Truthfully the poor service totally overshadowed the average food. Definitely not worth the $100 we spend on brunch for two and tip which was not well deserved.
I have been going to this restaurant for many years now. Unfortunately there have been many changes made. The menu does not give many options. The prices have gone up a lot and the food was mediocre. Two good things continue to be the wonderful view from the outside seating and the bar.
The food was very disappointing especially considering how much the fare costs. I don't mind spending $30 on an entree, but all of our sandwiches were made with what appeared to be an excessive amount of haste. Most of our tables food modifiers didn't make it. Our waiter was very polite and fixed the issues immediately. We did have to wait for our corrected items to come out. Our view of the sidewalk/intro to beach area was a very busy thoroughfare and provided for some great people watching. The restaurant was very comfortable.
Unfortunately disappointed. Really wanted to treat my family to lunch and specifically requested vegetarian items. I understand it’s Christmas and extremely busy but my vegetarian family members didn’t eat anything because there were only two options. Very saddened by this experience, felt bad for my family.
My husband and I spent decided to have a nice mellow Christmas Eve dinner here and we had such a lovely time. We're San Diego locals and love to visit the Del during the holidays since it's always so festive. We got a great table outside right in front of the ice skaters and were comfy and cozy under the heaters. We're not big on fixed menus but being a holiday we totally understand, and we were actually quite surprised with how amazing everything on the menu was. Everything was cooked perfectly and arrived in a timely manner. I don't often write reviews, but I wanted to give our sever Cody much deserved credit. He was fun, friendly, and attentive. I can't be easy working a holiday, especially somewhere as busy as the Del, but he made our night extra special just by being awesome and having a great personality.
Our group of 5 ate lunch at Sheerwater and loved the outdoor seating option. We had a beautiful over Christmas weekend to people watch and enjoy the weather. The location was great albeit crowded due to the holiday. We were able to obtain a reservation easily and were seated early. The food is pricey but you're at The Del so it's expected. We all had the tomato soup or the lobster bisque, crab cakes and quinoa balls. All of it was delicious. The cocktails could have used a bit more alcohol, but they still were flavorful. We'll definitely return. PS, last year we ate Christmas Eve brunch at Sheerwater and the fool was also delicious.
I love this restaurant! I live in SD (Point Loma) and I enjoy coming here for Mother's Day lunch, special celebrations and of course celebrating love at Christmas time. The food is delicious... never had a bad meal. The service is always very good and the ambiance is delightful especially during the holidays when the skating rink is full of laughter and hearing the crash of waves from the beach! It's the most wonderful time of the year to be at the Del!
I called Hotel Del to report my visit! They said they could do “NOTHING” Bad service no real communication whatsoever! Beans in dish were under cooked halibut was too done and the wine had been very wet cold in a refrigerator! Bad! Our wine should have been lightly chilled! Not grossly ruined! The notes I had on my week prior reservation were totally ignored in EVERY WAY! It had been 4 years since I’d seen my friend it was a very important birthday! I asked for a very special lunch with specifications also with a Chocolate dessert! Our server never read my notes! Never asked about the dessert? No chocolate! Very disappointed all the way around! Bad service with no eye contact! No attentiveness at all! Bad bad!!! It was my first visit! I will not be back! Neither will my friends!
It was our family Christmas lunch party to see the tree at The Dell. Lunch was superb starting with amazing crab cakes that had no filler just fresh crab in a roumalade sauce. Some had the seafood salad that puts others to shame for its wealth of large prawns and crab claws and the best was the perfectly seasoned ciopino with fresh fish, large prawns, mussels and a soup base that was sublime.
Service was as excellent as the food.
I would highly recommend the Sheerwater Restaurant. We had a group of 10 people for a casual business meal and everything was amazing. They sat us immediately at a table in their outdoor area as requested. They have heat lamps above the tables which were great for those that were a little chilly. They did get a little too warm for some people but if we had asked I'm sure they would've turned them down for us. The staff, food and service were all excellent!
