Sheerwater Restaurant at the Hotel Del Coronado Ratings and Reviews
Had the seafood tower. Excellent choice. Didn't care for the poke (not our thing, but was probably great for those who appreciate it) so our server Cody replaced it with more crab meat. Was too much for the two of us and the leftovers were great. All of the staff were the friendliest. Worth the experience
My friend is about is to be a Grandma and I wanted to do something special for her. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic. My friend and I parked in separate parking lots at the Del. I asked the waiter to make sure he didn't mix up our tickets when he validated them which he confirmed he had not mixed them up. When we were trying to exit the parking lots we both learned that our tickets in fact had been mixed up and neither of us could exit the parking lots. I had to back up a great distance and pull over several times to let cars pass to exit. We eventually got assistance from a hotel employee, however, it was an inconvenience and a delay in leaving the hotel. It also put a damper on the evening.
Wonderful lunch with a amazing view. The day couldn't have been better considering the fantastic weather and excellent lunch. Although the cost ($28) of the hamburger was somewhat high, the burger was cooked exactly as I had asked and the taste was fantastic. My wife had the seafood salad which she enjoyed as well. Hope to go back to Sheerwater the next time we visit San Diago.
Far from ferry landing with out good markers to say where ya go! Uber!! Crab cake was good all crab, but otherwise not remarkable in anyway! Asked for more pita, got charged $3.60. Loud planes and helicopters! Lots of fat folks! Expensive and not all that!!!
Beautiful views of the Pacific present itself to perfect ambiance.
We stopped for brunch and the food was buffet style. Sunday's brunch
is superb. Great place to dine, enjoy conversation and be still with
nature. Our waiter was very good; excellent service and professional.
My husband and I were there to celebrate our Anniv. Given the price, we expected the food and service to be as good as the evening ambiance. I had seafood salad entree. I ate most of it, but the greens at the bottom were soggy and soaked in a peppery house dressing that I did not care for and I could not finish it. My husband's salmon entree was served on a bed of some kind of relish he did not care for. Our waiter was very kind and friendly which was great at first. The problem was that he did not have enough time to be so chummy with everyone at every table since it caused us to sit for 10-15 minutes unattended after we were clearly done before anyone asked us if they could take our plates or bring us the bill. I don't mind paying such high prices for entrees at a fancy place for a special occasion if the food is great. Big disappointment here!
We absolutely loved our experience at Shearwater but have to say that the thing that made it most enjoyable was our amazing waiter, Anthony!!! He was so attentive (without being annoying) and really just made our experience so fantastic. The view didn't suck either ;-)
Came down to celebrate my girlfriends birthday and was blown away. The food was amazing! Our server Cody was outstanding, answering any and all questions that we had about the menu, cocktails, and special mods for food items. We go out for dinner often usually dealing with fine dining, but we are often not taken serious as customers which is always a major turn off being that I work in fine dining myself. But Cody was great and treated us with the utmost respect and definitely made us feel welcomed. Started with a couple cocktails and beef tartare as recommended by Cody and licked the plate clean, then some salads, salmon for my lady (she dove into the dish before I could get a pic) and a Filet for myself with some added Diver Scallops, finally ending off the night with some Cobbler (Which again was devoured before I could get a photo) sent out for the birthday girl. Food was beyond delicious and could be argued as one of the tastiest meals that we have even had. We will absolutely be back.
The food was good, nothing spectacular, as was the service. View is great, although obstructed by a wedding party on the lawn. However, the prices are obscene. $28.00 for a basic burger? My chicken sandwich was $32.00. A coke was $6.00. Four people for lunch with no alcohol was $147.00 without tip, around $177.00 with tip. Outrageous. Will not return nor recommend.
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! The new Chef removed all of our favorite dishes. The Waiter shared with us that quite a few guests have complained about the same thing. Bring back the fish tacos and the Fish and Chips. You're at the beach - you should have fish! Unbelievable! We actually talked while there having lunch Saturday about going somewhere else from now on. By the way I ordered the hamburger because they didn't have the fish tacos that I always get and it was like a hamburger you get at a ball park - dry, tasteless, terrible. This new Chef is not up to the quality we have become used to from the Del Coronado Hotel.
We have been to this restaurant several times for both lunch and dinner. Usually it is really excellent. We both had fish (halibut and seabass). Everything had a good flavor, however, the fish was overdone on both accounts. The Halibut portion seemed especially small. I ordered the frisee salad with no dressing and the waiter forgot to put the order in correctly. The lobster bisque wasn't as good as usual. It was off, maybe not enough cream and it was over cooked.
This establishmend is overrated and overpriced. After returning from a hotel stay in switzerland, I was appaled at the service, quality of the food, and the prices I encountered at the Del. I ordered a beef tartar which was chopped like goulash and void of spicing. Since i was there with five other people, I didn't want to complain, but it certainly disappointed me so that I won't return inspite of the view. I live in town and I will not recommend it..
P.s. The paper straw which disolved in the $6 ice tea didnt'help either.
The view from the patio is outstanding. Lots of ocean, sky and people watching. The swordfish special over couscous was perfectly cooked and delicious...even better than my husband's halibut. The cheesecake to finish was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Rich yet light at the same time. Expensive but well worth it.
We have always frequent this restaurant (years) . Since Hilton purchased this Gem of a property, instead of maintaining the high quality of dining, they turned it into a Hilton Restaurant Quality (not good) . I hope management recognizes this and make changes quickly.
It would be a shame to lose a San Diego icon for dining !!
Annabelle says: Great for buffet brunch if you want to overindulge! VERY pricey, yet the thrill of being at the Del with its historic beauty is worth the trip every decade or so. Server was terrific. Food was excellent, especially the crab/eggs benedict included in the lofty price.
Lovely start to a great day walking on the "boardwalk".
Meal was disappointing. Order steak medium-rare, it was presented well done without even a glaze of any sort. Prices were resort high but quality of food more like Holiday Inn. The Mac n Cheese might have come from a box. Dessert was fine and view spectacular.
Hotel needs to have serious training for this Chef on duty the evening of 8/28/17
Restaurant can not live on the Hotel's reputation without major upgrade of quality
