Great service. Breakfast buffet was fine and the eggs Ben edict and omelette made by the chef were awesome
Restaurant won't allow outdoor heaters during daytime due to sunshade blinds, perhaps they should go back to umbrellas as they used to have.
Food was average, at best. I had Fish tacos which were overcooked and had no flavor. Very disappointed. Two others in my group had hamburgers and they acknowledged they were "average".
Quite expensive. $24 for fish tacos and I think the same for hamburgers and french fries.
Excellent food, good quality
Service very slow due to what appears to be a shortage of staff
Terrible the only good thing was we were near the ocean ! Our reservation was at 12:00pm for lunch . It took awhile to get service and after our order it took another 50 minutes before the waiter came back with bread and a salad with croutons which I could not eat because allergies and said they lost our order ! At this point we should have just left ! He brought over some tomato soup that he said had no cream in it , but I had a sip and it tasted rich ! My halibut that I ordered was very dry and not fresh my husbands crab sandwich was ok nothing spectacular! We felt they just threw the food at us ! The waiter never even came back and asked us how the food was ! It was also overpriced!!! I usually don’t write bad reviews but I was compelled to let people know about this ! There are so many great places to eat in Coronado , but sadly this is not the place !
Good food and attentive service!
My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal at Sheerwater today. The local oysters were deliciously and Robin loved the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. The sea scallops were outstanding. What a great location , the beach is beautiful.
Our new food server was very attentive. He said it was his first day working at the restaurant.
The location and hotel itself was absolutely superb however lunch was disappointing the entrée of crab cake was lovely but the main which was halibut was overcooked and dry. The presentation of food was basic at best. My wife had a salmon fillet and honestly there was no color on the plate whatsoever looked like a sea of brown with a pink salmon fillet which was nothing special at all and not seasoned.
What was I thinking?
2 lunches $116.00
No - not lobster and caviar
Food was minimal and ok. Not great- ok
And then to add insult to injury
2 hour parking at hotel
Park on street
If u have to see it
But really not worth it at all
The Hotel del Coronado is gorgeous, as is the seaside property it sits on. My friend and I ate outside at Sheerwater. Cory was our waiter, and he was great -- he made the evening well worth it, as the food just simply didn't impress either of us. The halibut was overcooked -- we sent it back, got a second one, and it was just barely less-cooked than the first one. It seems odd that such a fine restaurant wouldn't know how to cook halibut. I'm not someone who typically sends back dishes, and I wasn't being fussy. The fish was just dry and didn't have much taste. The restaurant was considerate enough to take it off our bill. The mezzo plate was good, as was the mushroom side dish and the cocktails. We had a very fun evening, just not in a culinary sense! Again, hats off to Cory, who was attentive, funny, considerate and handled the situation really well. I might give the restaurant another shot next time I'm in San Diego, but I have to admit it would be the location rather than the food. I've heard the brunch, while expensive, is very good.
The outdoor seating on the beach combined with the great food and service make the Sheerwater at the Hotel Del a fabulous favorite for my family. Coming from Minnesota, we get out to Coronado once a year, and the Sheerwater is an annual tradition for us. Great steaks, seafood, and fabulous desserts. We had a vegan friend join us and she was pleased with her choices as well. Service is always personalized and the ambiance is always perfect. We will be back again!
We are from out of town and ending our four day visit to San Diego with breakfast here. Great selection of food, lovely setting in a historic building.
Our disappointment was that the exorbitant price was not commensurate with buffet food that was tepid at best and a coffee mug with lipstick stains.
We were really disappointed.
We were celebrating our 53rd anniversary, and we had a great lunch at Shearwater to celebrate. Our waiter, Rey Rey, was excellent and very attentive. At the end of the meal, he surprised us with a complimentary dessert. We had Bronzing (fish) with accompanying vegetables. The meal was very good, and was accented by perfectly chilled Proseco.
Shearwater is not cheap, but the staff seems to go out of their way to make the food and the occasion worth the money.
One of our party had the Caesar salad with salmon. They had no complaint. Another had the halibut. Again no complaints. My husband and I had the seafood salad. It was marginal quality. Most of the seafood had the texture of having been previously frozen. Considering the prices charged I was not impressed.
Outstanding!!!!the food was wonderful and the view was great
The waiters were very attentive an enjoyable meal
As a member of the Hotel del Beach club, I was disappointed in the service at Sheerwater-we have used the hotel several times for major functions as well as for vacationing and took a friend to Sheerwater for lunch on January 28 for her birthday. The service was very slow, our waiter then tried to rush us through our meal, didn't even ask if we wanted a dessert menu and took away butter when our guest hadn't even finished her roll.
Not the usual service level-Peggy Eddy
As always the food was excellent. We had the ribeye, which was cooked perfectly. Also, we had the halibut, which was tasty too. If you are on the hungrier side, order an appitizer with the fish. The food was a little over salted. Service was great. The view is fantastic.
Great location at the Hotel Del with amazing ocean views. Food was great, service was 5 star!
I've been taking my family to this restaurant for years and the quality continues to go down each year. We've had incredible views, great drinks and amazing food many times at the restaurant, but the last few visits have not been the same. The drinks seem thrown together and not well made. The food continues to go up in price as the quality goes down. Staff seems unhappy and annoyed to wait on us instead of welcoming and happy. Our visit over the weekend will sadly be our last. Visiting the Hotel Del is always a treat for my family, but unfortunately we will no longer be dining at Sheerwater.
Beautiful view on outdoor patio. Nice breakfast buffet choices. A great place to relax with friends.
Awesome service! Beautiful view!
The meal and service were fantastic! You know you have done well when you hear your mother in law say”mmmmm” after each bite!
Way too expensive. You can get better seafood at red lobster
This was our 3rd visit to San Diego and our third dining experience at Sheerwater. I was disappointed this time in the service. We made reservations 2 months in advance and were seated for New Year's Day brunch on time. We had to wait several minutes to get a waiter's attention to ask for coffee and juice and go to the buffet. Our waiter finally stopped by after we returned from the buffet, we still had no drinks and we ordered omelets which we didn't know weren't being fixed in the buffet room. Someone else brought our omelets to the table and we never saw a waiter again until I finally flagged a waiter for a check well after we were finished with our meal, had plates stacked and were obviously ready to go.
Truthfully the poor service totally overshadowed the average food. Definitely not worth the $100 we spend on brunch for two and tip which was not well deserved.
Next best buffet (literally!) to the Crown Room! Everything was very tasty!
Other visits were great; but this visit we all were disappointed in service, pricing, and limited food selection ended up having to pay $30 in parking since we were 27 minutes over 3 hrs due to stopping to ice skate. Overall negative experience.
I have been going to this restaurant for many years now. Unfortunately there have been many changes made. The menu does not give many options. The prices have gone up a lot and the food was mediocre. Two good things continue to be the wonderful view from the outside seating and the bar.
The food was very disappointing especially considering how much the fare costs. I don't mind spending $30 on an entree, but all of our sandwiches were made with what appeared to be an excessive amount of haste. Most of our tables food modifiers didn't make it. Our waiter was very polite and fixed the issues immediately. We did have to wait for our corrected items to come out. Our view of the sidewalk/intro to beach area was a very busy thoroughfare and provided for some great people watching. The restaurant was very comfortable.
The setting was perfect, however the waiter could have cared less on providing good service. The appetizer was excellent but the $30 hamburger was over cooked and of very average quality.
Good food but $28 for a cheeseburger and $6 for ice tea? Come on, that is ridiculous. Including $25 for parking. Guess you should visit once just to say you did.
