Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Took my girlfriend there for our anniversary and we proceeded to have a wonderful time. The food was amazing almost everything we ate and drank was fantastic. Even our favourite drink (their version of the pina colada) was fantastic. Servers and service was really great too. Really professional attentive staff. It was difficult to get a hold of them sometimes though but all in all we, were too busy enjoying the food for it to be a problem.

I love coming here, the food is amazing and the staff are so professional. Me and my girlfriend and I love to come for special occasions because we are always treated so well. I could not think of one bad thing to say. If you are looking to come here, everything always comes in a timely manner, and requests are upheld. You will not be disappointed.

We were surprised and impressed with our welcome to Shanghai 1814, as well as with the beauty and elegance of the restaurant. The service was excellent, starting with a “wow” on delivery of our smokin’ cocktails! Everything we ordered was presented with a flair rather than just served, and tasted wonderful also! Highly recommend for the food, cocktails, service , ambience and total experience! We hope to have the opportunity to experience Shanghai 1814 again in the future!

Welcoming and attentive staff. The menu choice was good and the food was really tasty and of a high quality. We will definitely come again on our next visit to Southampton.
