Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Really great food, service and setting for a special occasion meal or if you're simply wanting a lovely meal out. Thank you again to Michael who really looked after us and made us feel like VIPs for the night!

Our second time visiting 1814, first time treating our children. Our eldest 16 th birthday. Everything about this restaurant is outstanding, it’s truly the best Chinese we have eaten at. Thank you for her birthday pudding. We will definitely be visiting again. 😊

Gluten Free (Ceoliac) My favourite place, when dining I feel confident and comfortable as they truly know there intolerances. The food is just amazing as being Ceoliac you cannot eat alot or chinese food so super happy. The decor is amazing with a great vibe, thank you

Lovely experience at Shanghai 1814! We ordered from the lunch menu which was delicious. The service was great. The decor is amazing. Would 100% recommend to everyone.

Love the atmosphere here has a London vibe to it. Food was exceptionally good (salt & pepper chicken was so good) and sevice very quick.

Possibly the best meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The restaurant is stunning, the food fantastic and the service was professional and friendly at the same time. We may need to save up beforehand but we will be back!
