Shanahan's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I usually don’t eat steak out at a restaurant, because I prefer how we prepare them at home, and am often disappointed at a restaurant, even the top steakhouses. But given that it was our anniversary, I decided to give the ribeye (cooked “Black and Blue” or “Philadelphia” style) a try. The truth? Best steak I ever had. And my wife’s NY strip is definitely in her top 3, and she orders steak more than I. Besides that, the atmosphere is classy and cool, and the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. What’s not to love?
Our server was not very attentive and would be looking in some other direction anytime she addressed our table. Food was great, with the exception of the Shanahan’s salad which had no flavor and the bacon, although presented nicely, was completely impractical and had to be eaten separately. For these kinds of prices though, I expected the service to be much better
The steaks were either over or under cooked. The cake was dry and tasted a week old. The salad didn’t have dressing. Our table wasn’t ready and we had to wait 20 minutes. And the request for a birthday celebration was either forgotten or ignored. Overall there are other steak places with better food for better prices.
We have gone to Shanahan’s a few times for various special occasions. This time it was an Anniversary. When I made the reservation I was asked and told them it was an anniversary dinner. They had the table set and there were rose petals spread about the table. A nice touch. The service was excellent as it always is. The food was prepared with great care and was delicious. We were allowed to take our time and weren’t ever made to feel rushed. We ordered the appetizers and had time to eat them and talk. The entree was delivered hot and fresh and the sides were excellent. Dessert was served along with a beverage, they have a great list of after dinner drinks available. The wine list is extensive so you can pick a nice wine to go with your meal. We will be back to what I think is one of the best Steak houses in the Denver area.
I got the ribeye steak. Very flavorful, I have to watch my sodium intake so I couldn’t over indulge, very rich flavor in all the foods from the lobster bisque to the desert, carrot cake was good! I enjoyed that:) portions were decent and I’m a big guy, it was nice to have leftovers for another dinner. I would definitely recommend Shanahan’s for a special occasion, I enjoyed having our 10 yr anniversary there! Great place!
Nothing special to set it apart from other high-end steakhouses. It would be better if it were located downtown.
Louder than expected and pricey. Make sure the hostess checks you in if you use Open Table. Not fun to spend over a c-note and then not have your reservation checked in.
If someone was buying for a business dinner, I would go back, but not on my dime.
I took the wife here for our anniversary, and have prior. The food is outstanding (possibly the best steak I have ever had), and they always have something different to try. This time it was the Hoisin Glazed Brussels Sprouts, which were amazing! Everything about the meal was fantastic and I absolutely recommend Shanahan’s.
Incredible from beginning to end. Got a flat tire on the way and called them to see if we can come in a bit later than our reservation and they said absolutely without hesitation. When we finally got there we were seated right away. The bread was incredible but we didn't waste all our appetite on it. French onion soup was amazzzzzzing and the escargot was different but also the best I've ever had. I had the filet and lobster which blew my mind. My dad was visiting from across the country and he's a steak aficionado. He was wildly impressed and said that we will without a doubt return !
Our service was fantastic as was the food. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was the host staff was very rude. I had requested a booth at the time I made my reservation due to the face that we had a toddler with us, but when we got to the restaurant we were seated at a table. I had to ask the hostess 3 times and then finally my husband asked a manager for a booth when we were finally accommodated. The restaurant was completely empty so it was very frustrating that the girls at the front refused to accommodate our request for seating.
Food was great; seemed like the server was anxious to get us out of there. There were plenty of open tables around us, but he was asking to take our plates while we were still eating. And not just once - multiple times! We were there having a great conversation and it totally messed up the vibe and the flow on several occasions. It got to be a little ridiculous.
Having been to Shanahan's many times I have come to expect good food and good service. I received both in spades. You do pay a fair price for such things but I believe Shanahan's is a step ahead of the many other steak houses in the DTC area of Denver. Well done.
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner. Summer was awesome waitress. She sprinkled our table with rose petals, and gave us best wishes card signed by management Great steak and pork chop. Both tender and flavorful. Summer also gave us a delightful chocolate cup filled with mousse, cream and berries. Yum!! It was a Great night for us! Thank you Shanahans!!
We have dined at Shanahan's several times, but this time it was terrible. The noise from the tables close to the booths was so loud you couldn't hear the person on the other side of the table. A sports bar would have been a better choice. The food was not the same as before. The filet was encrusted and it was so strong it was hard to eat. The trout was so salty and the skin was very hard. The baked potato was cold, baked some time ago and was not edible. The service was excellent, the waitress was always checking to ensure you had what you needed. We actually took the filet and fish home and cut up for the dog, minus the crust and skin. The potato, it was left and taken in the table cleanup. This was our last reservation at Shanahan's.
Beautiful evening, wonderful booth, outstanding service from Cole.
While most of the food was excellent, there were a couple items that needed a little more attention to detail. Below is a list of what we had and how it fared.
- Lobster Bisque: Excellent. Sumptuous and velvety - with generous amounts of lobster.
- Escargot: Excellent. Rich and tender in a perfect blend of wine, butter and garlic. Accompanying garlic bread was a bit greasy and under grilled. There was plenty of butter in the snails for dunking - the bread didn't need any extra.
- Roasted Beet Salad: Excellent. Beautiful autumn beets in a well-balanced vinaigrette. Nice palate cleanser.
- Twin Lobster Tails: Very good. The tails just barely missed the mark of excellence due to their preparation. IMHO, tails of this size (approximately 8 oz) need to be steamed instead of broiled. Broiling them left parts of them a bit over cooked.
- Truffled Cheddar Mac ‘n Cheese w/Lobster: Very good. Again, this one missed the mark a bit because some of the macaroni was overcooked and tough. The lobster pieces in it were plentiful but also inconsistent - alternating from tender to tough and stringy.
All in all, this is an excellent restaurant with fantastic service. However, a few of the dishes could use a little rethinking and slightly better execution.
