Shame on the Moon
Shame on the Moon in Rancho Mirage, CA opened in 1995. When you visit, you will find two different dining rooms. The main dining room is a formal area that features mostly booth seating. The garden room has more of a relaxed and intimate feel to it.
The food is what makes Shame on the Moon such a special place to visit. Appetizers include salad, crab cakes, jumbo prawn cocktails and shrimp scampi. Entre options include pasta primavera, seared ahi steak, Northern Atlantic salmon filet, veal meatloaf and grilled flank steak. Shame on the Moon has desserts as well, including peanut butter pie, ice cream and sorbet.
This restaurant has provided dependably good food and service for more than 20 years. The decor is pleasant and the dining room is quiet enough to allow sustained conversation. There is also plenty of accessible parking. The horseradish-crusted baked salmon with caramelized fennel has always been my favorite entree, ideally preceded by one of their delicious soups and perhaps followed by the Washington apple cake with cinnamon ice cream
I love the restaurant, but last year's 4 course Summer menu was fantastic and this year's 4 course Summer menu was not tempting, so we ate on the 3 course and missed the delicious scallops from last year's menu.
A good experience with well priced entrees! A good spot!
Always a pleasure.
Everything was outstanding! Atmosphere, food and service were great.
SOTM is always our first night choice when we come to the desert as it was on Sat night.
But a-lot of disappointments!!!
Place was not full upon M but filled later on.
WAITER APPROACHED US AND SAID HE Would BE RIght WITH US FOR DRINK ORDER. Sapphire Marty up and and a g and t ...both excellent
Menu states that summer 3 course not avail on Sat night..website says same thing. He said we can get it anyway.. clear this up on menu
Got menus. Waited 30 minutes for him to take our order.
Very slow food that night.. Soup and salad came in about 10 min food at least another 30-40. Not good.
Great salad and gazpacho
Wife had turkey special. Was good but not as good as usual
i had liver and onions. Totally over rated.
3 pieces of liver and alot of other stuff thrown on plate...onions...bacon and mashed potatoes. Just a messy plate that was hard to eat.. very disappointing for $24
Raised prices on summer special 2$. Menu prices are on the high side. Not sue i would gos if there wasn’t a summer special
Waiter had somewhat of an attitude. Seemed more concerned about gay patrons than us. Desert was ok. Cookie and ice cream
Have had a great waiter don prior visits. Mat not be there anymore.
If u read all reviews there is an overwhelming issue with bad service. We were the same way
Management needs to get on it. Your food is generally great but if . Service isn’t there. Business will drop!
May return...just not sure after a disappointing experience.
Great drinks. Really good food. And, overall, a delightful experience.
Thank you a very special anniversary evening, as food and service was excellent in your beautiful environment.
We try to go to Shame on the Moon every time we come to the desert. It is amazingly consistently delicious. The service is always excellent. It is a great place for a casual dinner or a special occasion. And, when the check arrives, it is very reasonable for the value received. Tonight I enjoyed the summer 4 course menu - my choices were potato pancakes, gazpacho, lamb and lava cake. Yum!
HAD a great BIRTHDAY celebration. SERVICE, FOOD AND MARTINI'S WONDERFUL!! SUZ
Very accommodating the original table they were going to seat us we did not care for. They immediately moved us to a more appropriate table. The service was timely and perfect
Always wonderful. I’ve been dining here for over 15 years and it’s a delight.
Great food, excellent service, wonderful environment.
Start to finish a great evening
Great food. You must try the potato pancakes with lox. Out server Michael is a legendary server trust me. Will continue to dine at Shame on Moon
Great evening with friends at one of our favorite restaurants in the desert. We have been customers for at least 15-20 years. Even when they were in Cat City. Never disappointing. Very consistent.
Always good with good service one of our favorites
excellent food and service. very enjoyable
Great service ,,food quality and price and ambience hard to beat
We ordered two salads and a crab cake appetizer. We split ravioli and unfortunately it was not very good.
In addition, there was a fee of $ 9.25 for splitting the ravioli.
That was ridiculous.
A guest had gluten free pasta which she could not tolerate and the chef denied putting anything hot into it
But it made everyone’s mouth burn.
Always crowded with regulars and their guests, Shame on the Moon is "just dressy enough." While shorts are okay, one also feels at home with slacks and a jacket. There's a relaxed elegance and graciousness that seems to pervade the entire establishment and experience. Their "special menus" are quite reasonably priced (if that's important to you, check with the restaurant, first, for day and season restrictions).
I went to dinner with a friend and had the Summer three course special. I had the tilapia and my friend had turkey piccata. Both dishes were delicious.
Great restaurant, delicious food and pleasant ambiance.
Craig was our server and we received excellent service.
Still our favorite go-to special occasion restaurant. And, the summer specials make it even better!
We go there for the liver and onions. Always great. But the service is terrible. No one checked on us to see if we needed anything - water glass filled, wine with dinner, etc. They seemed burned out and don't seem to care. To be fair, a different person came to our table each time something was served so they seem to work as a team. But the teamwork is terrible. Everyone should be watching to see if anyone needs anything. Shame on Shame on the Moon. Last 3 times we've gone the service has been lacking. Seems to be a recurring theme judging by the other reviews.
Leslie the server was not as knowledgeable as other servers we have had in the past. She kept asking who had what and it was frustrating
Food value and ambience was good, waiter was way to snarky. Had to wait quite a while for drinks to be served not sure why as the bar was not busy.
Great restaurant with great food, service and value. The noise level was a bit high....possibly our neighboring table and the temperature was a bit too cold for me. Most definitely will return and recommend Shame on the Moon.
We have been there a few times before and enjoy each visit. Michael, the waiter was great and the service was efficient.
From the moment we walked in we were treated like kings. The service was outstanding and the food was to die for. We were both celebrating birthdays and you made our experience very memorable .
Classic, upscale restaurant with a beautiful dining room. Service is excellent and the food is great! Very reasonably priced for the food and atmosphere. Several prixe fix menu items available and the regular menu offers several choices most of which include a soup or salad.
I usually get the liver and onions there, which I love, and I was not disappointed. Delicious and plentiful.
It's a delightful restaurant, one of my favorites in the desert.
Excellent Cesar salad. Ahi entree was perfectly cooked but big portion. Friend asked for an Aperol Spritz and was told “it’s going to be a very expensive drink because no Aperol open now - we have to open a new bottle. “ NEVER have heard that before.
Would go again, but not going to be a regular.
Everything excellent, as always, once the servers decided which one would serve our table. We’ve never had to wait before. Another patron - a friend - finally came to our table to find out why we weren’t having a drink or some wine while we waited - he ordered drinks for us! Unusual. But, sometimes these things happen. Once served, the server was excellent: Lawrence.
We went for Restaurant Week and found very different menu options than was posted online. We all ordered from regular menu. Love the old school super comfy atmosphere. Service was bad. Forgot drinks, twice. Very unattentive. Food was good. Scallop & shrimp dish, liver was very good. Seared ahi ordered rare was more medium. Pasta dish just ok. Good drinks once we got them. Yummy deserts.
Waiter was very inattentive to our table. Did not offer ground pepper at our table for our salads. The kitchen took too long to get to our order. We were there almost an hour before we received our salads. Too bad, I really liked this place before. Maybe it was just a fluke.
Amazing food, service and ambiance.
Always enjoy dining at Shame on the moon. Great menu, reasonable price, fabulous ambiance
loved everything about the meal! I wish that the menu had a few more selections - like "lite" meals perhaps, but I realize you cannot please anyone. So......... continue what you are doing, you are
on the right course of food and otherwise!!!!
Everything was wonderful . The greeting as we entered, the service, food and the
Excellent food and service always a winner
Our reservations were at 8:00 pm. The server seemed like he wanted to go home as he was pushing us to order. I ordered the chicken Alfredo with angel hair pasta and it was just warm when it was delivered and the sauce was already thickening as Alfredo sauce does when it gets cold - linguine would have been better. There was a large birthday party a couple tables away that was so loud I couldn’t carry on a conversation at my table. I realize the noisy party isn’t the restaurant’s fault, but it didn’t make our evening enjoyable. The menu has very few items on it that I would consider trying, if we ever decided to return.
