We’ve been going to Shalimar for years and the food and service has always been great. Until last night. We waited 20 minutes for a server to greet us. Our food finally arrived and they forgot one of our party’s main dish. The server didn’t come back to check on us. We had to flag down another server to bring the missing dish and we also had a dish that was too salty / inedible and needed to be sent back. Poor food and service and an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check. We will not return.

The server was too rude and there was no concept of customer service. It started right at the beginning when the server said that we don’t have a reservation, where in fact we booked it thru Open Table. Next, we wanted to share the soup and asked for an empty bowl. He was rude and said that he can’t give us an empty bowl. Next, since we were not happy with the service, we didn’t want to tip. But the restaurant requires a 20% automatic service gratuity for a party of 5 and above. We didn’t like the way he was talking to us in a rude and arrogant manner. We have been regular visitors for the past 20 years and now Shalimar is black listed. Terrible service and I strongly recommend that no one visits this restaurant.

We tried some dishes that were new to us and loved them -- an eggplant dish and a potato/chickpea appetizer! They went well with tandoori chicken and garlic naan. Our server was very friendly and responsive.

Very good tasting food. The place is a bit sketch (desperately old carpeting, bathrooms unclean, stuffy smell). Closed the kitchen without warning at 9:30 and wouldn’t even serve dessert after that. Strange. I would go back, though. Good indian food is so much better than so many other moderate food choices.

The food is excellent and service is decent. Usually we love eating here but on this last visit we had a later reservation and felt extremely rushed to get our order in, eat and leave the restaurant. It was not a relaxing meal as our waiter hovered over us until we quickly finished our meal/drinks.

We waited 40 minutes for a menu. Never checked in on us. Never refilled water. Other tables got menus, ordered and got food before we were asked for our order. We got our dinner 47 minutes after ordering. The whole experience lasted 3 hours! Would not recommend.

I LOVE Shalimar! It’s a terrific spot to hit when visiting my daughter at U of M. I love that they take reservations because it can get quite crowded. The food is wonderful, generous, and authentic.

The restaurant was really good food. It was a game weekend so it was very busy, and the service was slow, but I know that everything is understaffed right now so it was busy. Grateful to have come here. The food is delicious. The location is incredible. The experience is amazing and well worth it.

This was my second visit. There food has great flavor, but not much spice. The scale is 1-7. I ordered 7 in spite of the staff protesting it would be too spicy. I think the heat level of 7 should stay put, but the scale should increase to from 1-10.

We had reservations and were seated promptly upon arrival. Although they had patio seating we chose to eat indoors. Wait staff were attentive to our needs and willing to give advice on our choices. I asked for mild and there was no hot seasoning in my dish. I appreciated the service.
