We absolutely love Shaking Crab!! Our first time at the Cambridge location because Quincy was closed. This location is huge and we were impressed by the amount of seating they provide. The service was a little slow but it was New Year's Eve so we understood. Nevertheless, the food was very-very good. My hubby and son ordered the gumbo and didn't care for it; thought they needed to get the recipe from the Quincy location. The drinks were really good, the waiter was happy and very polite and they all seemed to work great as a team. The food portions were very impressive; they really know how to take care of you. So... amazing food, great svc, great location and great portions. I would give them a 8.7 out of 10. The gumbo was the only thing that we didn't like but that's no biggie. We will definitely be back.
The service is very kind and the atmosphere is cozy, dim, and great for a dinner out. Dark wood furniture and warm yellow lights make it an experience. The food is delicious. They have crab, shrimp, lobster, and other foods. My favorite was the fried corn and the shrimp. You can choose your rub and spice level. Highly recommend.
We were initially seated next to a trashcan in a messy front corner of the restaurant. We requested a change in seating to another table for 4 which the maitre'd didn't want to break up for two diners even though the restaurant was and remained fairly empty. She did eventually seat us at that table. After each order I requested, the server said the restaurant was out of that item. This occurred three times. In the end I had a shrimp po'boy that was tasteless. Definitely would not recommend this restaurant.
Really fun atmosphere, and the food was served hot and fresh.
Some of the food was overcooked
It was fun to eat Cajun crawfish out of a bag!
I made reservation for 9:15 I wasn't seated until 935pm with a table of 4 children and myself so imagine the issue here
They were “out” of so many items. The good was ok but not great. Just other seafood options around. I don’t plan to return.
I went on a Sunday an got the special which was grilled lobster I asked waiter about it and he said he never tried it but has taken many orders for it. I never had lobster grilled either, my thoughts were it was dried and not moist. I would go back and get it poached next time.
This place was awesome went for my birthday with family & we all had fun and got messy but overall the the food & service was nothing but perfect I would go back again especially to the Cambridge Location
Initially my order of food was mushy. The crabs were over done as we're my shrimp. We said something to Simon our incredibly wonderful waiter who immediately dealt with it took the order back and I got a perfectly steamed bag of crabs and my shrimp were perfect and the potatoes were perfect it was all good. Not sure what happened with the first bag other than as Simon said the kitchen was busy and maybe somebody left it in too long. Other than that it's a great restaurant. You can do a lot of this yourself but if you don't want to then go to Shaking Crab.
Went for date night with the wife, excellent food, service and atmosphere. Large draft beer selection that we enjoyed would recommend it to anyone that likes shellfish. Only downfall is they only have about 4 parking spaces. There is a lot in the back that you pay for and they will validate your ticket to give you a discount.
Fun place to go with friends. Tasty seafood, especially love the shrimp.
Our server Namee (may be mispelling) was the best! She was super friendly and sweet! The food was delicious! Great value for seafood for sure.
The food is great here but I've been here several times now and the service is consistently bad. Waiter not attentive. Takes order and disappears. I'm always surprised at how slow business is here on a Saturday night. It should be packed. I know the issue is the terrible service. Mis-managed.
Great people, great food. Bar was a little slow eventhough it was only us and one other group in there but overall would recommend.
Food is quite bland. The crawfish is not as good as many have said ... compared it to the other joints I have been to ( e.g. the one in D.C) . The seasoning is not thorough i.e. as in the shrimps and crawfish has not absorbed the seasoning by the time it is served served. Some of the crawfish are oversized, making the shell very hard.
So the food was amazing and the staff was awesome. Except the manager. Told him my lobster was under cooked. Which it was and he tried to convince me it wasn't. Black goo isn't supposed to drip out. When its cooked its solid. He argued with me and said he confirmed it with his chef. Well of your chef thinks the "black goo" is ok to eat.... there is bigger issues.
The food is served in a sauce but still lacks flavor and seasoning. If the seafood was cooked in the sauce maybe it would be more flavorful.
We especially appreciated our server's attention to ingredients we wanted to avoid!
Great experience.. Food was good but pricey for the quantity.
Very good food service and very clean restaurant area
My wife and I are seafood fanatics, and had seen the place featured on a local TV food show..looked like lots of fun. So, we decided it would be a good place for our anniversary (needless to say, we weren't looking for romantic, elegant, white tablecloth dining - although the white butchers paper on the table might qualify...)
Anyway, we splurged on the dungeness crab - and OMG was it worth it! We had it with the Shakin Sauce and it was perfect. Shrimp (head on) with the Korean sauce, clams with the lime cilantro butter sauce (awesome), and mussels with the cajun (ordered with a bit of extra spice, but for us, the regular spice level would have been enough).
Such a fun and delicious meal. We decided to go gloveless, which wasn't a big problem (might be more so if you get higher spice levels) and enjoyed every bite.
We were originally looking for a reservation in Newton but none were available, so we went to the Cambridge location (plenty of on street parking available at 7pm on a Saturday night).
The pictures made the rest of the family jealous - we'll definitely be there again.
The seafood was delicious. They steam it and shake it in a bag- hence the "shaking crab" name. Then you put on a bib and gloves to eat it off of a paper tablecloth. If you've ever been to a Maryland Crab deck, this is similar. Very fun! Great service and good beer too. Don't wear fancy clothing. This is very casual (and messy) and you don't want to ruin your nice dress/suit, do you?
Great service and delicious food.
First time visit to Shaking Crab for this sea-food loving family celebrating Mother's Day. It was almost a perfect evening out. Food was delicious, plentiful, and fun. Only (minor) gripe was service was not great. Our server, while excellent, was simply over extended. Too many tables (all with large parties) for one person. Will definitely return but would suggest that more servers be assigned when there are a number of large parties present.
Very tasty, enjoyable experience. Staff were very helpful to us first-timers.
Fun and extremely tasty, we loved it!! Delicious sauces, shrimp, crab, garlic noodles, collards - everything we had was great!
Great quality and very flavorful. We sometimes like going out for crab. This will be our new got to place
Good food and the staff is very friendly; we enjoyed our time at the Shaking Crab!
Service was good. Food was great!! Got the shrimp and mussels and they were delicious!
The various level of spiciness and flavors are must try.
In my case, I went all the way up on the cajun and lived it.
This was our first time at the Shaking Crab. It was my son's 23rd birthday and this is where he wanted to go and celebrate. The consensus across the board was the pair of fried lobster tails. The mayo sauce that came with the lobster my son thought was amazing. Our waitress Namron not sure if I'm spelling her name correctly was exceptional. The overall experience was great!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
It was so good! Pretty sure I ate more than my weights worth of crab legs
Food was great and the location is very close to Porter which is handy however the service was just so haphazard, like it was everyone’s second week there. Management really need to shape up the entire service provided by the Porter staff, there are plenty of excellent alternative options in this price bracket and location . Food and beer selection couldn’t be faulted.
Amazing food! Servers and hostess were friendly. This is now our new favorite spot and will be visiting quite frequently!
Great location and friendly staff. Good place to go to if you want to get ugly with some seafood. I’m talking bibs and gloves ugly.
Service and food were great, I will be returning.
Great experience! Great food! Great service!🤗 I’ll definitely be back
My 2nd time visiting this one because I live in Cambridge. This time we went for my husband's birthday. Even though it was 10 of us service was not at the level I am used to at the Natick(4x) and Quincy(2x) site nor my last visit here. We had to be specific with how many waters we wanted and not request for the whole table. My 10 year old son was served a raw burger and because he had started eating it the manager had to clear if he could get another, which we were charged for. However the gentleman who was bartending was exceptional. My son had a toothache and I ordered a shot of brandy from him (went to the bar because somehow our server disspeared). He was very informed of the brand's and really nice to my son and I.
