Food was amazing, with big portions. Good service.
Fun for the adventurous eater who doesn’t mind playing with their food. Also i think it takes a couple of visits to get it right. I had the snow crab, but the sauce overpowered the crab flavor. Next time I will order it plain with sauce on the side.
The only con is that the tables are small for all the stuff
That ends up on them.
We were prepared for a do-it-yourself shellfish event but the way it was prepared (cooking it in a buttery sauce with shells on) made for an extremely slippery and messy experience. The food tasted good and the serving was generous enough for two people (though we could have done with more vegetables) but the overall experience was disappointing.
If each guest has at least a paper plate would be easier to handle the food.
I arrived for my reserved reservation and after being checked in 2 minutes later I was told that the place was shut down because they did not pass inspections. I am highly disappointed that I made this trip for my anniversary dinner that did not happen. This was an experience that I hope that I will never experience again.
The service was incredibly slow. They forgot to take our order. Throughout the meal, they were inattentive. There were employees standing around but no service. However, the food was good so we may give it another try with the hope that the service will get better.
Very good but quite expensive as well. We did get lobsters and king crabs so 50$ per head was something we can’t do on a weekly basis. But food quality and taste is great!
The food was good but service was terrible. The waitstaff was slow to take our order. My husband and I were not given the correct tools to eat our seafood so that was difficult and when we mentioned what a difficult time we’re having that’s when we were given the correct tools.
To top it off I was given someone else’s credit card after I paid and didn’t think I was going to get mine back.
I’m not sure I want to give it another try. Lots of seafood boil restaurant out there.
Very small area, food is overrated. For the boil bags not the best flavor wise. Expected more.
I got the shrimp, heads removed, and ordered it at what appeared to be the lowest heat level offered - medium. I am not a wimp about eating hot food and can usually hang with pretty serious hot food lovers. But after I ate the first shrimp, I started sweating and my eyes started tearing and my lips started burning and I thought I wouldn't be able to eat the rest of my dinner. But I kept at it, and by the time I'd gotten through about 25% of the shrimp, I'd somehow adapted to the heat and ended up loving the dish. The sauce - the House Cajun - was delicious. I'd get it again, and was told I could have ordered it "mild" so I might do that (although I might now be addicted to the heat.) And the other sauces sounded great too - Gulf, Seoul and Cilantro Lime, so I'm looking forward to trying those as well. Looks like I'll be visiting Shaking Crab a lot in the near future!
Food was great!! Different experience loved it. Would deffently go again
They charge $2.00 for extra seasoning where the others don't. There wasn't enough wait staff. It was not busy at the time we went and waited 30 minutes just for our drinks and only received 2 out of 4 of them. The nose was unbelievable. Babies crying, music playing, and chatter. First and last time.
Staff and food was fantastic! The staff went the extra Mile to help my disabled Mother on Mother's day!
The restaurant was not busy on a Wednesday night. The service was friendly but very inattentive. The food was fine, even good. I would recommend this restaurant for an off beat experience for my adult kids.
I have been to this restaurant location 3 other times, as well as several times when I lived in NYC, and typically love it. I decided to take my family visiting from out of town here the other night and it was sadly pretty disappointing. The "pounds" of shrimp we ordered were definitely not full pounds and the envie sauce was really watery compared to other visits. We also got 2 sides of potatoes and had a total of 4 potatoes between 2 bags. It took the staff a very long time to deliver our drinks and we had to ask for the napkin/bib packet and cutlery multiple times. The side orders of sausage were great, and the rest of our food (we also got garlic noodles and mac n cheese) was otherwise fantastic as always. I hope this is an isolated incident but I am hesitant to bring guests here moving forward. I would recommend this location revisit proper staffing and working with the manager/ host on the floor to ensure everything is running smoothly and customers are satisfied. We were definitely not the only ones waiting for long periods of time or having issues with the delivered food.
i’ve been going to Shaking Crab in Quincy once a week with my boyfriend and it’s TERRIBLE!! i would sit and order NOTHING , while he ate !! this time i was to the Brookline location and i LOVED IT ! the atmosphere, the food , the service everything was wayyyy better ! i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND BROOKLINE LOCATION! Quincy location i’ll NEVER RETURN!!! hats off to BROOKLINE SHAKING CRAB
Excellent food at reasonable prices. Need some salad on the menu, though!
Expensive lousy food.crabs were frozen and over cooked lousy service
Overall, it’s a great experience. However, I think it is expensive for what it is.
Excellent food and experience. Friendly staff! Food came out quickly. Will definitely be back.
It would be nice if they had someone at the podium upon entering. We waited several minutes at the front until one of the only two servers came to greet us.
Appetizers were good, but shrimps , crawfish were tasteless and rubbery even with the spicy sauce.
We really wanted this to be good because we love New Orleans, but the food was below average. The fried oysters were large bullets of highly breaded oysters. The shrimp boil was just OK, but with mushy potatoes, some mushy shrimp. The worst part was that when they took our credit card at the end, they did not return it. We had to have them go in the kitchen to search for it. While they finally found it, we went home and canceled it immediately, for safety's sake. Also the plastic eating utensils, gloves, bibs and bags for the boils and trash may dismay some people for ecological reasons. We won't go back or recommend this restaurant.
A+ for food and service
Where to begin ? First, the restaurant’s “ambience”, with its bright lights and ‘bar-like’ eating area (wooden benches and unupholstered seating) created a cheap and unappealing environment..and not one commensurate with their pricing.
Second, the drink orders were “screwed up” more than once. Third, I didn’t like eating the food...directly out of a plastic bag. And, again, not at their pricing. Last, when we got the bill, we had been overcharged.
To be fair, the food was decent, but I would have preferred it on a plate. Also, I know that the “boil” experience (which, I assume means eating the food out of a bag) is one that some people like. And, that’s fine...I’m just not one of them.
I’m glad that the vacant space is now occupied by a restaurant that, I think and hope, will appeal to enough people (as the ‘crowd’ sort of indicated when I was there) to keep it open and thriving. Sadly (and unfortunately) I won’t be one of them.
Service was abysmal. If it weren’t for the fact that I could tell the wait staff was trying so hard I wouldn’t have tipped. Drinks were spilled on people, they took at least 15 minutes to take our order, they moved a already seated couple to make room for my party when I had even made a reservation. They forgot to put in our drinks which came after the food, they didn’t bring part of our order and said it was because the kitchen forgot, they then brought us the wrong drinks, they brought us the wrong check, there were then things wrong on the check which we had to wait for them to correct. We then waited another 10 minutes for them to pick up the credit card and bring it back to us. The staff was very kind and apologetic but it was clear they were understaffed and other tables were having a similar experience.
The BIG a saving grace of this place of this restaurant was the food. The food was delicious, a pleasant surprise when compared to the pleasant service. If you go you will leave very full, satisfied, and that you at least paid a reasonable price for good seafood. However, do not expect good service and go a little tipsy because otherwise you will be severely disappointed.
Overall awesome restaurant! Only issue we had is they had a new drink menu they give out and both the drinks we ordered weren't available yet. My boyfriend also order the shrimp and steak combo and they were also out of steak.
The hype is real guys! The sauce my boyfriend and I picked out was overwhelming amazing... the guy at the bar was super attentive I believe he did more than our waitress lol.. I like how it a good amount of people but not super packed to point where my anxiety level was at its max.. the shrimp is HUGE !! Oh yeah don’t come here in a super cut too because it gets messy! will be coming here again for sure
We took our daughters here for Valentine’s Day. Food was really good, hostess was excellent, our waitress wasn’t the best but I think that was because of the language barrier. Overall good experience !
Great food, strong and fun cocktails, and a vibrant, diverse crowd! Loved the whole experience.
food was pretty good, overall not what I was expecting - one of the messiest dinners I have had in awhile - not a place to get dress up and go out to for date night
It may have been an off night but the service was very slow even though the restaurant was not full. The starters were good but my husband and I got the shrimp po’boy. In both sandwiches many of the shrimp still had the tales on and we kept having to remove the shells from our mouths.
Had such a great time! Waitress and hostess were lovely. Food and drinks delicious. The only thing I would change is the music. I think they had Heavy Metal on...
First of all Food and service was top notch! Our reservation was prompt and hassle free. What capped our night off was when the waitress offered to take our photo when she seen me trying to take a selfie with my family.
Overall experience was good but most of the food was salty and oily
Great food! Great idea!
Waitress was great but having one per the entire restaurant was a challenge as the food runners were helping, but also needed direction from the wait staff. You could tell the mechanics of running a restaurant were missing some finess touches. I hope they succeed! The food is fantastic, the staff is friendly and helpful, the idea is great....just some bumps
We had an amazing night thanks to shaking crab !!!!!!
I have been there before and like it. My friends weren’t crazy about eating either hands.
