Shakespeare and Co. - West Short
Perhaps it’s the pastries or the coffee, or the simple, exquisitely prepared, eat what makes you happy anytime, all day fare from our extensive global menu.
We see inspiration happen here every day. Come dream your next idea. Work, talk, be encouraged to stay, table turning is not our aim. Smooth away a care worn day, start a conversation or a blog, dine with a smiling friend or a tablet.
We think you’ll find our café culture positive and enchanting.
Nice place to sit and have brunch
Crepes were hard and over cooked. We asked for a side of strawberries to go with the pancakes and they cooked them inside the pancakes instead. The eggs on the Benedict were poached hard and the hollandaise although homemade had been watered down so it was very thin. Our waitress was decent, but forgot nearly everything. It wasn’t super crowded, so maybe she was overwhelmed. I wouldn’t go back.
We had a wonderful welcome service and food!!!! We will definitely go back. Recommend it highly!!!
Very unique and interesting decor. Nice vibe. Good food, but not exceptional or particularly memorable. Service was a bit slow, though they weren’t that busy. Overall, we liked it and will probably go again - but it wasn’t as memorable as we anticipated.
Great place to have Sunday brunch. Awesome atmosphere and decor! The food is fantastic and there is plenty. Nice variety. Looking forward to trying dinner sometime.
Funky and fun decor. Excellent brunch menu. Shakiea was an excellent waitperson! She went above and beyond to make our dining experience fun and enjoyable. So glad we chose this spot!
Great service, great food in a nice setting. They have an interesting menu.
Best and always the best, service, food and ambiance is been always satisfying... keep up good job
The food is very good and all a bit unusual. We went on a Monday for lunch - made reservations for 8 but we really didn't need to. We had a great business lunch with the team.
this is our favorite "go to" place to eat when we visit downtown Lexington. Food and service are great and the decor is so interesting. Short walk to Rupp and Opera House.
It was a special girly day out for me and my daughter n law. It could not have gone better.
Thank you to you and your staff. Well done!
The restaurant was very nice. The food was not the best.
All around great everything
Adorable Victorian atmosphere coupled with amazing food and friendly staff. My only desire for a future visit would be for them to play music that fit the theme of the restaurant rather than modern tunes - but this is only minor. Overall, I will be back! Definitely a new favorite.
Love this place! A tad pricey but the food is delish!! Staff are always attentive and will accommodate anything and any way possible. I will return again and again.
We went on the night of the Paul McCartney concert so let's be fair about that. They were slammed but I would think, given their location, they would be somewhat accustomed to that. The bigger issue was the location of the tables and no effort made to keep the aisles clear of people waiting near the bar. One of my dining companions could get no peace with patrons and servers repeatedly bumping his chair trying to pass by people who were making no attempt to purchase drinks at the bar; they were just hanging out. I suggest asking for tables as far away from the bar as possible.
That being said, the food was very good - for us, pasta, salmon, a burger, and fish and chips. All nicely done. It was difficult getting our check and then paying it. Still, I would tell anyone to try this place on a less-crowded night. We enjoyed the food and the rest of the evening (the concert!) more than made up for any short-term discomfort.
We arrived on time for our reservation but the hostess was frazzled (the restaurant was near empty but they were expecting a large crowd). She tried to seat us on a patio, we asked to move and she sat us at the tiniest, shortest table next to a larger group when there were several tables open elsewhere. A server came and moved us to better table...Our server Katherine was lovely! She was attentive and very sweet BUT their kitchen staff was less than prepared. We placed a simple order for normal menu items, without alterations. The classic burger arrived within 20 minutes but my croque yes ma’am never arrived. Katherine checked with their kitchen twice over 45 minutes to see where my meal was. A manager finally delivered it and it was just ok...not really fitting the menu description. The egg was over cooked, they used a hamburger bun instead of brioche and there was no béchamel sauce but we didn’t have time to complain. Katherine had the meal removed from our bill and encouraged us to have a dessert. The fondant chocolate came out perfectly and it was delicious! Overall, the food was just ok...Saul Good across the street is a better choice. The best part of our experience was Katherine...We night try Shakespeare & Co again sometime but it won’t be before a major event!
It’s been always great experience at Shakespeare and co.. great food great staffs..
Waitress was very nice. Food was poor. I ordered a filet mignon, medium well and at best it was medium rare. My husband had the chicken skewers, which were very dry. The asparagus on my dish amounted to two spears. Our martinis arrived warm, even though the glasses had been chilled. The restaurant was virtually empty. Very disappointed in a meal that was over $100 . Will not return.
Super cute place for dinner. Casual but a big menu. There were many options for gluten free and vegans. Can’t wait to go back!
Me and my finance went for lunch and it was just perfect as usual, very friendly staffs, perfect and well balanced food, and ambiance so Cousy and relax.. would recommend to every one to try... love it
We were extremely underwhelmed by our Mother’s Day visit. Food was mediocre and our waitress was a disaster. I called prior to our reservation to verify that they had gluten free options for my mother, and was told they had a gluten free menu available. When we arrived and asked for one, our waitress was extremely unhelpful and said “yeah basically you can just swap out bread.” Ok. Then after I ordered waffles, she came back 5 minutes later and said, “Um the chef said the waffle maker is being really sticky so he doesn’t want to make waffles today. But I can give you pancakes, the waffles aren’t that great anyways.” Ok. Then after delivering our food, she went straight to the bar less than 10 feet away from us, propped up a cell phone and proceeded to eat an entire plate of food, right in front of us, while chatting with coworkers. We had to ask several times for refills, napkins, silverware, etc. Three out of five in our party were satisfied with their food, not thrilled but satisfied. I and one other person didn’t like our meals at all. But as it was Mother’s day we didn’t want to bring it up. Then the cherry on top of the cake was a comment we heard from another waitress on our way out. She asked her table, “So do they make you learn English before you can leave Mexico? Because you can talk really good.” I can confidently say this will be our last visit.
Great experience for a Mother’s Day
We made a reservation because of the brunch menu and when we got there they said that because it was busy they just decided to cut brunch short. We had a member of our party that is a vegetarian and they could not alter a wrap because they are all premade and she ended up having to get a kids grilled cheese. The server wasn't great and we were stuck in a busy corner near the entrance to the kitchen and the person in the aisle was getting knocked by glasses carts and servers scooting by. Disappointing to say the least.
We had a reservation at 1 My wife was excited about having brunch. Unfortunately since it was Mother’s Day they stop serving lunch right at one. Also due to this transition from breakfast to lunch, they were very slow. We did not get food until after 2 o’clock. I wife’s steak was supposed to be medium and was extremely well done. I think the plate must had sat under the warmer because the mashed potatoes had a crust on them. This was sad since this supposed to be a special meal for Mother’s Day. They did comp her meal which helped but it was not great experience. The server Sam, was great and very friendly and helped very much since we had a bad experience. Hopefully this was just an anomaly because when we have been in the past, the food has been great. Also we were sad because they no longer have our favorite desert, creme brûlée
Location is great, decor is cute but service wasn’t the best. I asked if a salad or soup cane with my meal and when I was told no, I asked to add a side salad. I waited and waited but no salad and my server was too busy to ask her. When my pasta came out though, so did the salad. A side salad should always come before the meal and if you are not sure, you should ask.
One of our favorite places for girls night out. Great food and great atmosphere. Love the couches, chairs and tables. They were really busy but kept everything running smoothly.
Very good food. Fun setting. Friendly staff
We had a great experience of watching the Derby in the bar followed by a dinner with our graduating daughter and best friend's family. The service was absolutely fantastic, as our server was super outgoing and engaging. The food selection was great for a larger party, something for everyone. Really enjoyed our evening!
We celebrated our daughters college graduation with family and friends for dinner at Shakespeare and Co. Food, service and atmosphere - outstanding!
Fantastic place for cooperates meeting, menu very selective love it, tasty food, server very friendly, and perfect location, easy excess...
Lovely place but food not great and very small portion for not a great price. I live out if town so doubtful be back. Would go back for a drink only
The food was incredible, rather pricey but the decor makes up for the price
I have to say Shakespeare’s was one of our go to places until Tony’s came to downtown. Then it was our back up. We did decide to go Saturday since Tony’s was booked and because it was close to the opera house and they had the potatoes Gueyrre dish, but upon seating we were handed a new menu. It went completely away from before. More sandwiches, pizza and bar type good. You wonder why Tony’s is packed? Then you move away from it? Sorry dint like the new menu, the prom kids that filled the place may but the opera house crowd doesn’t. I wish you guys the best and hope you see what style is successful but for now I will be booking Tony’s earlier or just do Saul goods or village idiot. You have lost your way
Great food and ambiance! It was Easter brunch so a little busy, but otherwise everything was excellent!
First visit...great experience! We booked on OPEN TABLE but when we arrived it did not show our reservation. The manager said it happens often. BUT, he had a table for us which we were grateful for since it was Easter! Lovely high top in the bar area with a great atmosphere, great food, including great kids menus, best Bloody Mary I've ever had. Really cute place...the bar area was vintage with some eclectic accents...fun! Main dining room was vintage elegant but FREEZING COLD. Glad we didnt sit in there! Will definitely go back.
One of The best dinner ever had it.. love the food and service.
This is what I called dinning experience...
Seated right away, and our food came quickly. Wait staff was very friendly, and a really cool atmosphere.
We enjoyed breakfast there yesterday. We were the first people there at 9:00 am. Our food was delicious and the portions were good. They had plenty of high chairs. Easy to walk to from the Hyatt. We will go back next time we are town.
