The food was just ok. The service was terrible enough for me to leave a bad review. There are too many other great places in Lexington for anyone to waste their time here.

Service was extremely slow and our food took a long time to come out but the breakfast was so yum!
I went to Shakespeare and Company this weekend for Valentine’s Day but I already went back for lunch today! The staff is amazing, the restaurant is beautiful, the food is delicious! My server was Braden and the manager remembered me from this weekend which was nice. I will definitely be a longtime customer.

We were rushed, seated in the bar, and the food was not good. My portion was very small, while my mother had a huge portion. I was so disappointed. It was terrible.
So, so disappointed. In town from Huntington WV for a performance at the Lexington Opera House. Made reservations online to dine at Shakespeare and Company. We were greeted in a timely manner. We walked through a lovely area where others were dining and were taken to an adjacent room with high top bars and chairs. This room was sparsely decorated with no ambiance. I requested we return to the first room, which had several tables empty. They obliged. We were seated and given an abbreviated menu with 3 appetizers and 3 entree’s. None of the choices were appealing to us. Our server apologized and said their normal menu would return Sunday. We left.

Very disappointed for this recent visit. I travel the world and have been to restaurants of this chain in multiple countries; usually they are outstanding. The very recent trip made me and my wife to decide probably never come back, at least to this location. It was my 12-yr old's birthday. I did mention this to the front desk, the waitress and the manager, 3 times separately, but unfortunately no one made any gesture to her. To an adult it might not mean anything; but to a 12-yr-old girl it means a lot. Not to mention we paid the $100 per couple (total 4 people, so $200 minimum consumption that night). We asked for her favorite dish (a simple Alfredo Pasta instead of the fancy steak or salmon) to no avail. Fundamentally wrong service level for such a good name. (Criticism aside, food was great.)

Our food was good however we waited almost an hr & a half for our food. We had a reservation & we were even seated before our original reservation time, because we had arrived 25 mins early. They had a limited brunch menu (which was not advertised when making the reservation) with very few options but then pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches were per request. They would not give us a menu to see those items. The server was doing her best to ramble them off but did not have them all memorized & we had to use our phones to look at the menu online. Salads were not an option, however, we asked if we could order those and our server said yes. We placed our order & about 20 minutes later she came back saying we could not order the salads because the kitchen was overwhelmed. I’m no chef, but I think a salad probably takes less effort / time because there is usually nothing to cook. We changed our order at that point. Then the server tried to say we waited long to put our order in, which is why our food was taking so long. This was not the case. She seated us, brought our waters back / explained the menu & when she came back to take our order, we immediately ordered. It also took 15 minutes just to receive our waters. I know they were busy, however, then they made the excuse that the kitchen was overwhelmed & that’s also why it took so long. This restaurant has been around for a long time, so this is not the first Saturday they’ve experienced with a UK basketball game going on. It also didn’t help that our server just kept saying our food should be right up, but then wasn’t going to check on it and we could see tons of food sitting on the heated shelf from the kitchen ready to go out. Extremely frustrating. We understand everyone gets busy, but just be honest & quit making excuses. I am not saying that you shouldn’t eat here, but maybe if you want to take your time or go during a non peak time. I think they have some kinks that need to be worked out with their staff / kitchen.

The waitress was extremely inattentive, we all ordered bottomless mimosas & bloody marys and it took the staff an hour to bring our 2nd round- after asking multiple times. The food was subpar and cold when it arrived. To be clear, they weren’t understaffed and the place was barely full. And the orders were all wrong and we had a table of 8 people. They added 20% tip to the bill. JUST WRONG! Stay far far away from this place- you’ll thank me later!!
I am so sorry, again, my name is Jennifer and I am the manager of the restaurant. I waited on you and tried to assist the server who was taking care of you. I made at least 24 drinks for your table today and our bottomless mimosa protocol is the refill can only be made when the glass is actually empty. I disregarded that all morning to serve you all to the best of our ability at the time. Furthermore, it is industry standard to add grat to large groups but we will be refunding that to you!
We showed up for brunch and it was just chaos. They weren’t prepared, the ended up with a limited menu but didn’t have the menu ready. We ended up leaving
Sorry for your experience. Our limited brunch menu issue was a one time thing that we will not be doing again and due to kitchen issues we had to do that verses not opening at all. There was a UK game that morning and I just could not stand to not open for the CATS fans so we tried to reach a middle ground. Please know we fully understand what we need to do better in the future. Thank you again for your feedback.
When I made the reservations there was no mention of a limited menu for Valentines Day. I had been looking for a nice restaurant with some GF options as I have a gluten allergy. Their main menu looked to be pretty good and gave me some decent options.
When we showed up though we were informed that the menu was limited with even more limits on the GF options. The main courses on the special menu were doable but I did not have a dessert choice (although the manager did find me some nice fresh fruit after a while) but throughout the meal we felt very rushed by the staff.
The food that I did have was quite good so I hope I can give it another try when it is not so rushed. I so want to provide a 5 star review. Just can’t right now.
I completely understand and that is a very fair assessment! I will take those notes into high consideration, of course the Valentine's Event is a one time event. We do not have a GF dessert, per say, other than fruit or something of that nature. However, we are developing a GF dessert after we have had a few requests. My son went for Valentine’s dinner. Not made aware of set menu & special. Server attempted to charge for a appetizer he didn’t receive because it was “part of the special.” In addition, he was charged for champagne when he is under age. No drink refills during dinner. Overall poor experience with service. Myself not my family will return.
We did not charge Champagne to anyone that night, it was a free complimentary glass that was rang in as 0.00$ as well as the main dishes, sides, desserts. The app. was 99$ so the entire meal only cost that for 2 of everything (app of 1). We offered to substitute soda/juice/coffee to those Champagne was not approp. for. We advertised our set menu and special evening on FB, several radio stations, OpenTable, & print & I am very sorry if we missed connecting. I apologize for the bad experience.
Limited menu for Valentines Day, it was to include appetizer entree and dessert - as well as glass of Champaign. Took forever to get waited on, menu options were not explained, we finally received an appetizer, entree was good, did not get offered our dessert when we received check we asked and were told we were charged as it was part of the special, so we asked why we didn’t get it and all they said was sorry. They finally brought it to us in to go containers. After we paid, another couple by us said we should have had Champaign also that it was posted on Facebook - we never were asked and never received the Champaign. By then my husband and a friend just wanted to leave because everything was taking so long, so they did, I stayed back and talked to a manager and shared my disappointment, only because seemed several tables had opportunity with service (one couples waited over 20 minutes for water) the manager seemed apologetic and surprised and did confirm we should have gotten dessert and the Champaign. I got an ‘I’m sorry’ and they got my $200.
I had reservations for a couple weeks for here, it’s a unique atmosphere and we were hoping to experience it, they sat us in the bar area away from the beautiful ambience that had a violist playing, they closed the door and we couldn’t hear any of it, very sad we didn’t get an opportunity to have any enjoyment.
So disappointed we paid for it all and didn’t receive it. Since we had already paid I just got their sorry.

We are so sorry you guys had a bad experience. I am Jennifer, the manager who spoke to you, and I want you to know we are actively implementing change to remedy the issues. The limited menu was a special event we do on occasion. I do, again, take responsibility for our shortfalls. I will be revisiting your check though because I specifically recalled giving a discount to that ticket so if you would like to contact the location, I would love to get to the bottom of that and assure that credit.
Sadly, the Valentines dinner was lackluster. The food from the preset menu tasted and looked as if it had been cooked hours before and left under a heat lamp. Also, the desserts offered were different than what had been posted to social media by the restaurant when they promoted the dinner. The cold air coming in from the front door required you to wear your coat during dinner and still be freezing. It seemed the goal of the restaurant was to serve mediocre food for $99/2 and turn tables as quickly as possible. I will not be visiting this restaurant again for a special occasion or any other occasion.
I am very sorry to hear of your experience Susan. Our goal was to NOT rush turning tables, which is why we sat in both of our dining areas. To make corrections for future notice could you please let me know did you sit in the main dining salon of Shakespeare or the other room, Script? I want to thank you for the "4" in service and let you know we will certainly be addressing our food issues proactively!
Arrived for an early reservation and the restaurant was mostly empty. They seated us at a table right by the door, which kept opening, allowing the frigid outside air in. We asked to move and they reluctantly took us to what can only be described as a coffee table. This despite there being 20ish empty normal tables around us. They were serving a preset menu for Valentine’s Day, which I get, but this was not advertised on open table. They had extremely limited options and we did not fancy eating ribeye steak on our laps. We left because they could not have made us feel less welcome if they tried.
I am Jennifer(manager) & I would like to apologize for your experience. The coffee table/couches are a signature Shakespeare look & I apologize it was not the appropriate seating you really wanted. I went through great lengths to advertise this event on FB, OpenTable, & Radio. We did have an advertising campaign on OpenTable. I am sorry if that somehow missed connecting to your reservation. Please know we are actively using all constructive criticism to better our events in the future!

Service was lacking but the ambience is quite fun and there are some dishes with a Middle Eastern/American fusion which are delicious. The prices are really good as well!

Unfortunate how an inexperienced server can kill a special occasion. Venue is fun and tastefully decorated however when the patron is not welcomed nor thanked for their business it leaves a huge void. From the time I was seated it was obvious the server should have stayed home - she was not having a good day.

This was my first time dining at Shakespeare and Co. My friend and I loved it! The space is quaint and decorated beautifully in old Victorian style. The servers were friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. My friend and I split the buffalo cauliflower appetizer (yum!), and she had the chicken Caesar’s salad and I had the quinoa salad with chicken. Everything was attractively prepared and very tasty. We both agreed that we will be back!

C first time dining at Shakespeare but it will not be the last. We will be back next time we come to a CATS game!
Just what we needed! Parents came to visit so we chose Shakespeare and Co. for dinner. We caught Shakespeare and Co. on a quite night. (There were events taking place at Rupp and at the Opera house) This was our first experience and it was a pleasure. Staff was very courteous and friendly. We were not rushed in any way, were given ample time to socialize, eat, enjoy our drinks and relax within the environment. (2 1/2 hours)
After our main entree we finished the evening with a delicious bread pudding and coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed what Shakespeare and Co. offered, we all had great things to say about our meals!
My order with 5 others was late coming out... quite late. Then it was wrong. Redone but the awful smell from the plate of avocado toast was nauseating.
I will go again but it will be awhile.😕
We always like to visit this restaurant when we are in Lexington! We have only gone for breakfast/lunch but it's a cute atmosphere and good food. We had made a reservation ahead of time so were a bit disappointed that they put us in a table right by the door. Everyone enjoyed their food although I tried the pancakes this time and they were okay -- nothing too special as I was anticipating.

We waited over an hour to get our silverware, then food came even later than that. Completely unacceptable. Manager did apologize, but we won’t be going back. Too bad, as food and ambience is decent
Love the setting. Service was absolutely terrible. Spent about two hour for breakfast. They were slammed as it was family weekend but should not have taken that long. Had to get our own drinks. When food did come out it was wrong and one item was missing. Not going back.

My wife had been here with some friends before, but this was my first time. We were greeted as we walked in the door and definitely made to feel welcome. The staff and management were involved and interactive with the diners as well as my two year old daughter who says hi to everyone. The food was prepared quickly and was absolutely great. I was very impressed with the flavor and overall quality of my meal. I will definitely be returning to dine here.
Mediocre food but the service was decent. Entrees are overpriced. Sandwiches and the burger are worth the price.

Nice place to sit and have brunch
Crepes were hard and over cooked. We asked for a side of strawberries to go with the pancakes and they cooked them inside the pancakes instead. The eggs on the Benedict were poached hard and the hollandaise although homemade had been watered down so it was very thin. Our waitress was decent, but forgot nearly everything. It wasn’t super crowded, so maybe she was overwhelmed. I wouldn’t go back.
