   Great food and service. Love that they have vegan options, would be nice to have a vegan naan option but everything else was fine.

   Shaheens Indian in Durham has been an absolute revelation. Decided to try it as it is close to my daughter's college (Hatfield) and will definitely go again. It was a relatively quiet Tuesday evening and the service was charming and friendly. A family-run restaurant where everything is fresh and home-made. Ask for the home made chili relish; it's delicious. The madras was well balanced with just the right level of heat. Altogether a great experience.

   What a unique find we stumbled into here in Durham. We visited Shaheen's on a cold and rainy night. Part of the block lost power early in the day; yet, Shaheen's endured and remained open. Upon arrival we were greeted by Adam. As it turns out, this is a family run restaurant, and Adam is the son of the founder Bob. Yet it felt more like being with family (than at a restaurant) where they cared about you and making sure you left fully and satisfied. The food was solid and evidenced a heart-felt passion for delivering family recipes. We tried several items from starters to Baltic Shaheen's specials and sides. Spice was noticeably well managed and delivered based on your requests. Nothing over-powering. And even the spicier options were well controlled. For starters we tried the fried onion (blooming onion, India style), mushrooms and garlic, and a lamb kabob. The kabob was by far our favorite. We then tried the black dal (a secret menu item?). It was a solid surprise. For mains, we both enjoyed the Chiken tika (mild and spicey). It was strong in flavor and fulfilling. This was joined by brown basmati rice and garlic naan. All in all, worth a trip and a place we will go back to. Think of it as more homestyle, where the family that runs the establishment welcomes you and takes care of you. Cheers, Shaheen's.
