Decor: Sette Osteria has an open kitchen and an action station viewable by guests. Pizzas are cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven.
The best decor in a restaurant is people. Windows give guests a view of the active passing scenes on busy Connecticut Avenue and R Streets. And, people walking by are able to view a very inviting and appealing restaurant. The decor is soft and appealing but still carries a theme of sophisticated Italian culture and international buzz. Guests can view the young people going in and out of the chic clothing stores G-star and Emporium 2050.

Lowkey dog food
This was a very convenient place to take a client from a conference at the Washington Hilton. We had a very good meal, an excellent moderately priced bottle of wine, and very good service. The pasta dishes were very tasty and the portions ample. Our only complaint was the broccoli rabe which didn’t taste that great. The atmosphere was lively and casual which was a good fit for the purpose of our meal. We were too full to have dessert so can’t speak to that element of the menu.
We were rushed through our meal and never got a second glass of wine we ordered.
The food was good but the rush didn’t make it a very nice dining experience
We got bottomless mimosas, great deal, our server was amazing!
Food was average.
Still fantastic food!!
Lovely place. Server was great. Our lunches very fine. Wow, the ice cream!
Excellent food and a lovely place to meet sit outside and enjoy DC, but the service was poor. We had to work to get a waiter’s attention to order and to get our bill, but the food made it worth it. I would go there again.
Food was mediocre. We were three. Ordered chicken parmigiana, lamb shank and fettuccine bolognese. Service very slow. We chose this restaurant Basel on previous reviews and were disappointed.
Really lovely little Italian restaurant with excellent food and nice outdoor seating. I dropped them a star though because it was very un-Italian of them to not offer complimentary bread; my Greek/Italian fiancé was very disappointed by that. To get a bread basket to eat with the olive oil at the table costs extra. He also didn't like that they gave him a full sized spoon for his capuccino instead of a proper sized demitasse spoon.
Great place for Sunday brunch. Everything said their meal was great.
We were a group of 9 on a Thursday night. Excellent antipasto dishes served on platters, and main courses with ample servings and warm food upon delivery. The only thing that was not good was the Grappa we ordered. Old. Bad.
Pasta bland. Lacked seasoning. Bread ordinary. Deserts pedestrian. Whatever happened to the old Sette which I long for.
My cousin is in town for work and staying at the Washington Hilton. We decided to meet for dinner near her hotel and chose Sette Osteria after reviewing the menu and reviews. We were greeted quickly and seated out on the patio. Our waters were kept full without us having to ask for refills, and our drinks came out relatively quickly. The atmosphere was a step up from casual, but it was still relaxed. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. We all got pasta. I would certainly come back if I'm ever in the area again.
Food was very good. No complaints. Services was very slow and not as attentive as I would have hoped. Cappucino was never delivered but still on bill. Complimentary parking is capped at 2 hours. We went nearly 2.5 hours as it sometimes was hard to find our waiter.
Service was slow and unfriendly. Redemption of Dining Table Reward Card was unsuccessful
It pains me to type this review but Sette is not what it once was. Upon seating it literally took 15 minutes for the waiter to come and distribute menus. What followed was the serving of stale, yes stale, bread. After returning the stale bread, the manager told us that the bread was not stale but instead the hard Cristina’s and inedible center was the intended effect. Our pizza was mis-delivered to a table that did not order it slowing the delivering of our entrees.
The prices are simply not supportive of amateur night. Sette is no longer worth it. Messi, if you are reading this, you must fix this.
Outstanding food. Atmosphere urban without being to edgy. Service at just the right place. Would return in a flash if I lived in DC.
Food came out too fast. Salads has just been dropped and then pasta was out a minute after. Service was weak and seemed to be issue with other tables.
This is a dependable neighborhood restaurant for good Italian food at a reasonable price. Casual ambiance. WE come her often and it is our choice for a quiet Italian meal in the DuPont Circle neighborhood.
We love this restaurant and try to visit there at least once each time we are in DC. It is casual and the food is terrific.
What a great authentic Italian restaurant! We lucked out with perfect weather for sitting on the patio. Our large party of 7 was very well attended by an older gentleman waiter. Each person commented that his/her dish was the best of that type they'd had in the U.S. I had the Penne Margarita - just delicious!!
I had remembered loving this restaurant, but upon dining the other night, I wouldn't recommend it. The restaurant was fairly empty by the time we arrived, yet we were seated at a cramped table at the back of the place near the bar. The appetizer of tomato, avocado and burrata was fine but seemed like it had been prepared hours before, it wasn't particularly fresh. My ravioli (spinach and ricotta) was very bland, although my husband enjoyed his pasta with lobster. The wine and service were fine, but I will not be returning any time soon. I was disappointed.
The bread was stale and butter cold. Food was not very good. People were nice, but simply not worth it.
We really enjoyed our visit at Sette Osteria during a recent trip. The restaurant was more than considerate to rearrange our seating allowing us to enjoy the outdoor patio. When we travel to Washington DC the next time, we'll be sure to call them for another pleasant experience.
The appetizers were much better than the main dishes. I received a cold piece of chicken that was not enjoyable and I left half of it in the plate. Pasta's were enjoyable.
Al fresco dining in the vibrant DuPont Circle neighborhood was a very rewarding experience. Food was fantastic and the atmosphere is reminiscent of the finest sidewalk cafes in Paris. Relaxing and satisfying!
Waiter was very nice and helpful. Chicken on my son's gnocchi dish was a little dry but they removed it from the bill with no questions. The gnocchi and sauce were perfect. I had the scallop risotto with truffle oil and it was fabulous. Husband was very happy with the veal picatta. Tiramisu was wonderful.
Nice Brunch place with decent coffee, nice bottomless mimosas, and we love that they offer gluten-free pasta, but PLEASE make your HOLLANDAISE sauce WITHOUT WHEAT FLOUR!! If you make it with only a little cornstarch to thicken it, you can offer it to us g-f people too! (my wife has celiac, and I'm gluten sensitive). We LOVE eggs benedict, but were unable to enjoy them here at Sette Osteria, because of the flour in the H sauce. Scion and other places manage to serve g-f H sauce that EVERYONE (except vegans, obviously) can enjoy. Also, please improve the coffee, as we expect more from such a nice brunch place! Thanks!
We ordered ravioli, chicken tagine and a fish entree. Food was okay but there are better quality options for this price. Service was excellent
Fantastic, we went back the next night. Would really recommend.
Should've know better when the hostess tried to seat us at at a table in the blaring sun instead of any of the many empty shaded tables on the patio...food unimpressive, service barely acceptable, will not return.
The service was friendly and efficient; the food was tasty and plentiful; the afternoon was warm and bright, so we had an outside table, which was generally very pleasant. The only problem was that the folks at an adjacent table made a bit too much joyful noise, but that wasn't the restaurant's fault, and didn't last too long. One member of our party has difficulty in walking, so we were glad to have the valet parking access within a short distance of the restaurant door. The four of us in the party would enjoy returning to Sette Osteria.
I had probably been to this restaurant in about a decade until this visit. It used to be a very trendy, cool bistro-type restaurant. I noticed it had become comparatively seedy since my last visits. It definitely needs an update. My food was good but the ambiance was not befitting an authentic modern Italian restaurant, and not one in a very posh area of DC.
Food was great, as always. Great sidewalk table.
Only problem, and it was major, the appetisers came out quick and the meals were out while we were halfway thru appetisers. We made them go back but we knew they were only warmed and brought out ten min later. And salads and a side came out after apps but before dinner which was against what we had requested. Almost ruined meal, and with no real apology or explanation. Believe me, I am not a complainer but this was ridiculous. Somehow we salvaged a nice dinner
Good, regular Italian comfort food. The service was excellent though. Very attentive and efficient wait staff.
Food was excellent. Service was bizarre - untrained. The waiter and/or kitchen staff seemed unaware how to pace a meal. We ordered bread and a small pizza to start, salad as a first course and our main courses. Within 5 minutes our main courses were served, before the salads which were brought out a minute later. There literally was no place for all the plates. Generally at restaurants, starters come first, followed by the first course (salad) and then mains. Since all the food came at once, and we had our main courses already we asked to cancel the pizza and were told it was too late to cancel. We also said that we would like to enjoy our salads first before our mains. The waiter responded that she could put our food under the lamps in the kitchen while we ate our salads. Not exactly the response we wanted. In the end, the food was terrific but not sure we’ll go back because of the poorly trained staff.
Friendly staff, delicious home-made pastas, pizza, stromboli, salads... great place to take your family. Highly recommended!
Went for brunch and unlimited mimosas to only find out they had run out of Champagne! Why advertise something you can’t offer.
Excellent restaurant in all respects, food quality, service, and location!
