Setaara Afghan French Cuisine
at setaaraac.com. You can choose to sit in booths, tables, or in your own private alcove with traditional floor seating on colorful cushions. We are certified halal. BYOB. In designing the restaurant and its dishes, we used our experiences traveling throughout the Middle East the past few decades to provide the most authentic restaurant possible. Those that don’t like spicy food will be pleasantly surprised, as everything is extremely savory, yet subtly seasoned. The theme of the restaurant revolves around the golden age of the region from the 1920s-1970s. We look forward to sharing our unique take on Afghan cuisine with you.
- Surfaces sanitized between seatings

Food was amazing, huge plus BYOB
We LOVE Setaara! The food is absolutely fabulous. Unfortunately, this was not our best experience there this time. We went with another couple and had reservations in the outdoor courtyard, which is just lovely, by the way! Our friend hit his head on the entrance door of the restaurant and received quite a gash. They immediately brought ice and a rag to put on his head wound. We were ushered to the courtyard. When the macaws arrived they were incredibly noisy! The young wait staff was over attentive. Every few minutes they interrupted our conversation by asking if we needed anything, filling our water glasses or removing plates. One of the young ladies in an effort to make sure that everything was okay, spilled a glass of wine on our friend's lap. When the food arrived, his was cold and he sent it back to be warmed. We were offered a complimentary dessert and tea, but chose not to accept it. Our friend spoke to the hostess and told her how disappointed he was in the evening. Nothing else was offered. They will not be returning to Setaara, which is very sad to us.
Second time there......first time in the courtyard area......very nice job they've done adapting to these times....the food is always great. Servers and managers are very attentive.
My family and I had an amazing experience at Setaara. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. We were thoroughly impressed with their safety precautions. Each person in our party had our temperatures checked and were asked a couple screening questions. We were expecting a tent for outdoor dining.Turns out they have built a breathtaking courtyard these past few months akin to the courtyards we have seen on our travels to Spain and the Middle East. The service was impeccable. Our server, Micah, went out of her way to thoroughly guide us through the menu and frequently checked up on us. To make us feel extra safe, there was an outdoor hand wash station and all the servers wore shields and gloves in addition to their masks. To start, we ordered escargot and borani banjan as our appetizers. They were delicious. The borani banjan was the best eggplant dish I have ever had! As for our entrees, we ordered the Uzbeki Palau and Mantu. The Palau features a large lamb shank, the lamb literary melts in your mouth. I dont usually like lamb, but this was amazing. The Mantu dumplings were phenomenal. Throughout our meal, we saw that they thoroughly sanitized chairs and tables after tables left. Finally for dessert, we went with the delicious firni and baklava. As Afghans visiting from New York where there are a lot of Afghan restaurants, we have never once experienced authentic Afghan cuisine like we have had at Setaara. Couple that with the ambiance which was unlike I have ever seen in the states, I can't wait to return. They even had parrots in the courtyard that said hello. The inside was amazing as well. This was the first outdoor dining experience me and my family have had where we didn't dread the loss of indoor dining. Honestly, we thought the outdoor dining matched if not surpassed the experiences we remember from dining in at other restaurants before the pandemic.
Amazing food! Lovely ambiance! They Even had live parrots!
It's nice to have a unique restaurant in this area
The new space is more beautiful with every visit. The food was wonderful as usual.
Although the birds are colorful, they make a lot of noise which makes it even more difficult to hold a conversation. The food was disappointing, they had run out of wine glasses, our server was only there a week, was not really trained on how to clean the table between courses, we ate dessert with the crumbs of food from our dinner on the table, used the same silverware for every course, just a disappointing evening all around.
Been there quite a few times we love it
We had a nice meal. Good service and an interesting menu.
Besides being disappointed at not having the best soup in the area if not the entire country, it was, as usual, a wonderful culinary experience. The food is unusual, plentiful, and delicious. The waitstaff could not be more helpful or enthusiastic about the restaurant. There were six of us, and we ordered different meals. Because of COVID, we could neither share nor pass around the desserts. SIGH. Eating here is such a wonderful experience, like eating with friends in their beautiful home. We have never been disappointed.
If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. The food and service were wonderful . The atmosphere was fantastic and very calming so you could really enjoy your food. They are also very aware of Covid 19 and had a place to wash hands and hand sanitizer was readily available. We also witnessed them cleaning the tables and chairs which led to a very relaxed eating experience. We will be back again and again.
Let me start by saying we loved the food. We truly believe the courtyard experience will be great eventually. Here was our problem: if we weren’t in the middle of a global pandemic, we would complain that the temperature was very, very hot. There were no fans, and they were absolutely needed.
But we are in the middle of a pandemic, and there have been many reports that you minimize your risk when you are outside and there is air circulation.
There was NO air circulation and we were very uncomfortable about the setting as it relates to restaurant eating in a pandemic.
When we researched this restaurant, it looked like they were taking extra precautions to make it safe.
We will see how things change next year before we decide to come back.
I would like this restaurant to succeed, so please take these comments as helpful criticism.
Hi, we are sorry to hear about that. We just want to reassure you that we take precautions EXTREMELY seriously, more than the average restaurant, especially given the fact that our co-founder is a medical student in his final year of training. For safety, we have no fans outside despite the heat. A lot of accredited studies have shown that fans actually INCREASE the spread of the coronavirus because it will propel COVID/other droplets from a table seated next to it to other tables.
It was our first time here and we heard about it from a friend of ours that has nothing but great things to say. Food was absolutely excellent. You can go wrong with anything on there menu. They do an excellent job spacing out meals unlike other restaurants that just bring everything out at once. Staff were so friendly and nice. We will be back this weekend for more.
We loved our meal and can’t wait until they are done construction of their outdoor two story seating pavilion. It will be beautiful once fully complete! Food and service were delicious. We will be back.
Very nice area they set up kinda outdoors during this pandemic. Food was very good but I don't know where the French influence comes in. Mostly Middle-Eastern food which was very innovative and very well prepared. Plenty of servers and people walking around but this are needs some work. Overall very nice, very reasonable and worth the hype. FYI..they have their own designated parking area across the street which really helps.
Very delicious meal. The outdoor dining area is currently a work in progress as the walls are up but it's in an unfinished state at the moment. The ambiance should be amazing once it's complete. You can't go wrong with any of the food choices here.
Awesome favorite restaurant on the island! Love their New outdoor space!
A great experience at Setaara, food and service was outstanding. The new courtyard is very nice, looking forward to going again very soon. If you haven’t experienced Setaara yet you should.
My server Bailee was fantastic and the food was Great!
One of a kind for this area. Fabulous escargot. The Bolani with spicy churney dipping sauce is great. The ambiance is lovely & portions are very Generous!!
Beautifully decorated. Delicious food. Can't wait to go back
Three couples dined outdoors (new patio) on. a Saturday night and everyone loved their dishes. Great pains have been taken to ensure cleanliness and we felt secure with the tables at a distance, hand-washing station, masked and shielded servers, and glass-topped tables. Our group had kebabs, dumplings, chicken in a cream sauce (pictured—Poulet au Moutard), eggplant and potatoes (appetizers). Fantastic. It’s a must try when in Atlantic City.
Everything was excellent! The food was delicious and the ambience and service was amazing.
Such a fun experience sitting on the floor.....getting up is another story! Loved everything about it....highly recommend!
Staff and service were fantastic!! Food was delicious!! Eggplant app, okra, lamb rack so yum!! The basmati rice was the best I ever had!! Can’t wait to go back!
great service, great food and love the design of the restaurant. Please note the transnational sitting are alcoves, while you sit on the mats on the floor. BYOB
Setaara was a nice find to celebrate AC Restaurant Week. The staff is very welcoming, answered our questions about the menu and made great recommendations. Parking was easy and Setaara is a byob!
We had a the lamb shanks and Afghan chicken. They were both terrific. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We'd recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful evening out.
My friend and I went for restaurant week and both had vegetarian dishes and they were all exceptional! Great flavors, sizable servings. The service was super friendly and the decor was so much more atmospheric than anything I've seen in South Jersey, you really feel like you're in another world. We can't wait to go back! Hint: get the Firni for dessert.
Delightful restaurant with plenty of distance between tables, comfortable seating. Wonderful server.
Great appetizers - my friend had three. I loved the bolani. The beef bourguignon came with a tasty sauce and delicious long-grained rice.
The food and the service was outstanding, I recommended it to friends and family.
Wonderful food, service, and ambiance and it’s BYOB
WOW! This was my first Afghan dinning experience and it was over the top good. The restaurant is gorgeous, Bailey, our waitress, was perfect and the food was incredible. I dined like a native, ordering Borani Banjan (eggplant) and Quabil Patau (slow cooked chicken with basmati rice). The chicken was among the best I ever ate. My friend ordered the soup du jour (creamed lemon chicken) and Beef Dijonnaise, also good - but I though my food was much better.
We sampled the ginger mint tea. That in itself was wonderful.
I hope to return soon.
We went for restaurant week. I didn't even know this place existed prior to our visit, but we love Afghan food! We were on the early side and arrived before others, but it was a full-house by the time we left. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had an awesome time and will be back! The staff was courteous and helpful. The food amazing. The parking lot across the street was handy; it was full when we left.
The best total dining experience I have had in years. From the workers to the ambience to the food, everything was magnificent. The spices in the Afghan rice and the flavoring of the Afghan tea were exceptional. And DO NOT pass on the Afghan pudding. I’ll be back, so much on the menu I want to try
VERY GOOD first experience; used Restaurant Week offer to explore this highly rated new AC restaurant. Food was exceptional and fresh, server Bailee very personable and attentive, and the host and management epitomize what “hospitality” means. Go if you have the chance for a unique dining adventure :)
Awesome place, super cool spot with good food that you can’t get anywhere else in the county.
Very nice family ran restaurant. The food and atmosphere were excellent. I would recommend to anyone traveling to Atlantic City.
Never ever place a table next your front desk. Sitting next to receptionist is the WORST table I've ever had in the hundreds of restaurants I've enjoyed.
