Loved it. Great food. Great vibe. The chocolate gelato is not to be missed.
Live music outdoors from the restaurant next door on Thursdays only! It was magic!
Food was incredible, ambiance was romantic. Perfect date spot with great food, great drinks, and wonderful service.
We love our night at Sestina! The staff was wonderful and made great recommendations. They were also super understanding when we were running late trying to find parking. The food was absolutely incredible, we’ll definitely be back!
I was very much looking forward to trying Sestina, and unfortunately it turned out to be a pretty disappointing experience. We had a reservation for 4 at 8:15pm. We arrived right on time, and I saw quite a few empty tables that could accommodate exactly 4 guests. However, after a quick check-in, we were basically ignored for 20 minutes (nobody else was waiting) and were not sat until 8:35 at a table that had been empty the entire time.
Our server was very friendly and helpful, but the over all service was quite lacking. After asking for a water refill as we ate our appetizers, our water was not refilled until at least 15 minutes later. The server did make great wine pairing recommendations based on the different dishes ordered.
As far as food, we shared the arancini and stuffed peppers. Both were delicious, but the stuffed peppers were TINY and there really should have been at least a few more to make it worth it. Each of us orders a different pasta, and all were quite mediocre. I ordered the fettuccine vongole, and it was extremely salty with not much other flavor. The pasta itself was not over-cooked and all stuck together. My husband ordered the sweet corn ravioli, but the only thing you could really taste was the Calabrian chili on top. One friend got radiatore with smokey sugo, and our other friend ordered the elbows with vodka sauce. The vodka sauce was very sub-par compared to any vegan vodka sauce I’ve had or made myself, and there was no taste of Parmesan (not even a plant-based cheese flavor). Over all, for a place that calls itself a pasta bar, their pasta was super underwhelming, and certainly not worth $17/dish. I’ve only been fully plant-based for 3 years, and I can make far better pasta dishes than any of the ones we tried here.
Will be back soon!!
Perfect date night! Good company, Good food, and Good service.
The food was so delicious. You won’t miss the dairy! Fresh ingredients. The pesto was delightful and tasty. The vodka elbow pasta was our favorite. Can’t miss the panna cotta! Made with cherry compote. El Gato sauvignon blanc went perfect with the meal. Nice light complex: tasted citrus, fruit and floral.
Great for any occassion and loved the outdoor seating al fresco.
Wonderful evening here. Great pasta and flavors. We will be back.
Delicious food and great outdoor service. Had the Quattro Formaggi Pizza (light, 4 types of vegan cheese), caesar salad, Pappardelle Mushroom Ragout (delicious!) and Panna Cotta (sweeter and smaller than I've had at other places). Came early and was able to find free street parking across the street.
so good, best vegan meal i have had in LA! want to go back again
Amazing ambiance and the best Italian vegan food. Clay took care of us and gave us great food suggestions & amazing service. Everything on the menu is amazing.
I was so delighted to find this place. I’m not vegan but this has me reassessing the possibilities and we’ll absolutely be back. Pizza crust was incredible.
Love Sestina! The food, location and ambiance is always wonderful. Staff is always so helpful and the food is incredible. Can’t get enough!
Lovely evening, food and service amazing! It was a nice celebration of reuniting with family members
If you're a pasta fan, this place will not disappoint. You won't even know it's vegan, which is a bonus, because the food is phenomenal. But being vegan and sustainable is a HUGE PLUS. Due to the outdoor dining being open as well as the patio and short on staffing, you may need to flag down your server if you need something, but it's the worth the effort for the food. Despite the timing challenges, service was still wonderful. We all need to be a little sensitive to understaffing and over-patronage during this time of adjustment with ALL restaurants.
Sestina is beautiful, right in the heart of Culver. We sat on the front patio and it was gorgeous. Quiet and relaxing but good energy with all the rest of the brunch crowd out. It’s got amazing vegan Italian food, the best we’ve ever had. We love Matthew Kenney’s Restaurants, we’ve tried several and can’t wait to try more. The drinks are expensive, but it’s a fancy place so it’s not surprising and not too over the top. We love their old fashioned’s. We got stuffed peppers, olives, Caesar salad, Quattro Formaggi pizza and vodka pasta. Dessert was pannacotta and pistachio ice cream. We loved it all so much we could cry haha do yourself a favor and go here!
The corn ravioli was the BEST! Service is great!
Absolutely loved the vegan caprese and the quattro formaggi pizza! Delicious 😍 and wonderful terrace 💕
Pretty terrible service unfortunately and really loud music next door
Poor Service. Waiter didn't check back to our table enough. One dish was way too spicy and this wasn't indicated on the menu. Manager offered to trade the spicy dish for another dish which my husband accepted. But the bill showed he was charged for the spicy dish anyway, and the manager had to correct that error. The manager was professional and attentive to these issues. The value at Sestina isn't great. No bread is served with pasta dishes. They could offer even a small salad. We had gone to Sestina two weeks before for a brunch, which we enjoyed. I wouldn't recommend it for dinner. Ambiance is lovely.
Waited for a long time for anyone to come to the table and waited what seemed like forever for the food in a restaurant which was mostly empty
Kids portions, small plates. Sad-looking caprese salad. Expensive.
The pasta noodles themselves were really good but we didn’t love the sauces (but to be fair, we aren’t vegan). The menu was really minimalist and hard to read—many details were omitted. They were also out of several things we asked for. The service was fine but not spectacular, and we got a stronger ambiance from the restaurant next door than the one we were actually at.
Good was AMAZING! The only disappointment was that they were out of a lot of items (first beer we chose…out, first wine we chose…out, out of panna cotta) otherwise great meal and fun atmosphere. We’ll be back for sure!
Everything was delicious! The pastas were the best.
We ate the most delicious pastas, Truffle pasta and the Pappardelle Mushroom.
I heard many great things about this place, even from non-vegan friends. I actually brought my friends here, and didn't tell them the cheese was plant-based. They had no idea - which shows how good it is.
The pizzas are good! I like the Il Pepe one the best - a little spice. The truffle pasta is bomb too.
This place is amazing. The caprese salad was to die for. There was a classical music band playing on the side, which I enjoyed. I could eat here every week easy. My lady loved it also, it was her birthday celebration.
I've eaten there before and had a much better experience. But this was pretty awful.
We took a dear friend out to celebrate and say thank you to her for some important work she did for me. Her favorite food is Italian.
First she asked about the vodka pasta inquiring "what is in the sauce." The server said "elbow macaroni and pasta sauce" and pointed to her elbow as thought my friend didn't know what elbow macaroni was. She asked again but the answer again was "pasta sauce" motioning toward her elbow again.
My friend finally ordered a pasta dish with the sauce on the side (in case she didn't like the sauce she would eat the pasta alone). They said they couldn't do that. We asked the manager "is the food pre-made is that why you can't?" He said "no we make it fresh every time." He couldn't really explain why they wouldn't give her the sauce on the side.
We ordered the meal anyway and I said "if you don't like the sauce, I'll take it home and eat it later."
They brought her the pasta and it had a large piece of metal (yes, metal!) sticking out of it. The server came back and acted like this was normal to have metal in the pasta. She never once apologized and seemed bothered by us each time she came by.
By the way we paid over $200 for this stellar experience.
I realize they are shorthanded and they explained they were. All businesses are during this time. However, that has nothing to do with not putting sauce on the side or apologizing for dangerous non-edible items in the food. It was just bizarre. My friend didn't even eat dinner and this was her celebration. I took her out to a much less expensive restaurant to make it up to her.
Was fine but not particularly exciting. I find it odd that they don’t highlight more on their menu the fact that they are plant based. I already knew but it’s really not stated nor do they even describe what their plant based pastas are made of on the menu. You would think they’d be so excited to highlight that. Underwhelming overall
Great service. They actually have more tables available because of their street and sidewalk dining, which is quiet and cool beneath the trees at night. It also allows more room to spread out and greater privacy between diners.
The food was excellent. The Arancini balls and sauce, so tasty. The pasta dishes, outstanding in taste and flavor.
The service was the best we have had in a long time. Very knowledgeable wait people, who explained in detail about the various dishes.
Who knew Vegan food could taste so good!
Saturday, 07/31 6:30 p.m. We SO wanted this dinner to be perfect! As plant-based foodies, we were looking forward to eating at Matthew Kinney’s Culver City location and traveled about an hour to get there. We were not entirely successful.
Arrived to an abandoned host station. Soon after, we were checked in and seated at a great table.
Immediately ordered drinks and an appetizer prior to our other guests arriving. THAT actually arrived quickly, although choosing wine by the glass was a little challenging.
Our guests arrived. An uncomfortable amount of time elapsed (15-20 minutes?) before their arrival was acknowledged and our actual dinner order was taken.
Finally, our waiter, who had seemingly been entranced with playing with the order screen for what seemed like an eternity, came over. He apologized, explaining that he had been discussing the menu with 1st time customers. I said that we were 1st time customers as well. That didn’t seem to make an impression.
We ordered food - lots of it.
The entrees arrived - prior to the appetizers of course. (We had to remind the staff that we did have appetizers.)
While dining, I observed as the service staff appeared to be disorganized. Since our assigned waiter again abandoned us for a lengthy period, another waiter took our orders for dessert.
I’m disappointed. The food was fine, as good as I had expected. Plant-based menus are not the easiest to locate. The service staff, on the other hand, seemed mostly uninterested in following suit.
The food here was absolutely delicious. The drinks were also very good. My only issue was the corn ravioli was a tiny portion. If that would have had another three ravioli's it would of been perfect.
Creative cookery for vegans (and non-vegans). Loved the panna cotta!!
I never like giving anything but the best reviews, however, as a Vegan I'm particularly concerned about plant-based restaurants. I had vey high hopes for Sestina. Unfortunately, they weren't met. The two dishes we ordered, while fairly tasty, were drowned in oil, making the plate unsavory and the finish off. We had an Arnold Palmer and a Green Tea to go with the meal. We didn't know, or were told, that refills would be charged at full price. The portions were on the small side, especially, the Mushroom Pappardelle. The noodles were shiny with the excess oil, the mushrooms disappointing. My partner had the Arrabiatta, which, while a slightly more generous proportion, was swimming in olive oil, almost to point of being inedible. With tax, two teas, two portions of pasta, the bill nearly $70. Not a good value.
I went here the first time with a few friends just walking by, and found out after asking about a dish that the restaurant is vegan. Everything we had was delicious. Service is amazing, and everyone is friendly and helpful. I already went back a second time.
The service was terrible! They make me seat very fast, the host brought me to the table and brought a glass of water and the menu. After a while the server didn't show up yet, so the host came over and took my order. I ordered an appetizer a pasta dish and a lemonade. After a reasonable amount of time, someone (the manager, I learn later) brings both dishes at the same time, no lemonade. During my whole meal nobody shows up at my table or neither walks by, and I didn't want to have to get up and go inside to ask for my lemonade. Several times I looked toward the host station, but nobody was paying attention to me. I eat my meal, and after I finish to eat I expect someone to show up, but nothing happens, so after 10 minutes I move my plates on the side, thinking that it would be a sign that I am done eating. 20 minutes later I decide to get up and leave, I was tempted not to even stop to pay, but I am honest and wanted to pay for what I ate. So I go to the host station and I ask for my check, demanding that it better not show up a lemonade that I didn't get. The manager hears that there has been a problem, and she asked what happened, I explained everything, and they ask who my server was, I said I had no server, but I was able to eat something thanks to the host. They listened to what I had to say and they were kind enough to pick up the tap for me. That was a very good gesture, recognizing the terrible service I received. I had the expectation of a very pleasant dinner, instead, I had a very frustrating evening. I will probably give them another shot because the food is good, but it will take a while.
So pleased with this tasty and vibrant vegan Italian spot. The food is great and the scene is too. Service was friendly but a little too relaxed for my taste. My only real complaint though was the encroaching house music pumping from the restaurant next door — not the vibe Sestina seems to be going for.
