Serve on 2nd
Absolutely! This was my third visit and I have never been disappointed.
They were closed. We received no message to state they were closed before arriving. I had a group from out of town and they were all a bit perplexed and i had to scramble to get a reservation somewhere good on a Saturday in South Bay. Not fun.
The location of Serve on 2nd is prime. Sadly, after giving this restaurant many chances, which started when they first opened and has now concluded with a recent dinner, I will do my utmost to never set foot in again - unless drastic changes are made. Starting with the service, there is little to no resemblance of structure or priority of customers. As an example a few months back, we were looking to grab brunch to include having an outdoor seat so we could tie our dog up. We were unable to do so, however, as a server had told multiple people it would OK for them to wait while sitting in the outdoor seating area. As another example, we made reservations for a larger group for a birthday celebration recently for brunch. However, we had to re-confirm 3 different times over the phone and in-person before the reservation was actually in the system. As it relates to the food, sub-par would be an understatement. In our most recent experience, the crusted ahi was no longer available by 7pm on a Saturday night. Also, the "shredded beef tacos" had the same meat as the pot roast and literally tasted like pot roast in a tortilla. Overall, it is truly shameful this place is still in existence and we look forward to a new restaurant to take its place in the very near future.
Made reservation, got there on time and no available table. Rude staff claimed they had a big party. Won't go back there again.
I made a reservation for a good friend & I on the early side of a Friday evening just in case it would be too crowded to get a table. To my surprise it wasn’t even necessary...we had the place to ourselves when we arrived, so I never checked in with our reservation.
Overall, we had an amazing experience! From start to finish our server was extremely attentive, even as the evening progressed & all the tables were full. Not really hungry enough for a full meal, we ordered drinks & appetizers. The food itself was flavorful & delicious...the drinks tasty & refreshing! We were presented with a piece of warm, yummy chocolate cake, topped with ice cream, by the owner himself, Jon Mesko. Who by the way was polite, attentive & engaging throughout the evening. Props to you Jon, thank you for making it such a pleasant experience for us! I think what I love most about it is that it’s a cute, quaint, quiet place away from the hustle & bustle of the promenade, with a hometown, local feel. That’s hard to find with all the new places coming & going in the Southbay. I definitely plan on making it one of my go to’s from now on, and I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know!
Buffalo cauliflower was soggy
Slider patties were slightly larger than marbles
Had to flag down servers multiple times
Was never given silverware even though I asked for it
Will not return despite living a block away
Go to Laurel Tavern instead!
I took my friend for her birthday and the service was spectacular, as well as the food :)
A wonderful discovery! Simple and unassuming, with exceptional food, outstanding service, and extremely reasonable price! If this place isn’t already on your list - add it and try it immediately- you won’t be disappointed!
Beautiful space, very comfortable and relaxing. The team is very welcoming. The Buffalo Cauliflower is great. Nice to be healthy and love it!
It was Sunday so not at all crowded. Service was quite nice and attentive. We had the ahi tower as a started. would have preferred a bit more seasoning. My wife had the chicken rice bowl and enjoyed it. I had the short rib sandwich, which was very nice with a bit of cheese but not too much and carmilized onion.
wine by the glass was also nice and there were several nice choices.
This was our first visit to the restaurant. I ordered the 4 hour roast beef and they had already ran out at 7pm. Poor planning by the chief. I got the terryaki chicken bowl instead and that was okay. The biggest problem were the flys in the inclosed patio area and that was super irritating. It is a really cute restaurant and I recommend getting screens for the windows.
We love your menu, but are tired of the ongoing excuses for bad service. Every time we have been in it is the same story / server didnt show for shift. We like this place and want it to succeed but are tiredl of bringing new folks in only to have bad service. Please fix this
Cute interior. Nicely decorated. The buffalo cauliflower was really good. The wait staff attentive.
A negative was the place was very loud with many crying/screaming children. It made it hard to have a conversation as the shrieks were jolting. So I will say it’s family friendly!
We were there on a Saturday night.
Nicely designed new restaurant. Service was attentive. Menu isn’t huge but has reasonably diverse options for all tastes. Food was good and prices are reasonable. A neighborhood-type place, casual and not ridiculously crowded or loud like the restaurants on Lower Pier, several blocks away.
Booked a table for Friday night with a friend to catch up. Our waitress was very accommodating, efficient and personable as we were slow to look at a menu, order, eat, etc... as we were talking quite a bit. Her recommendations were good, we split crab cakes to start (very good), I ordered a green salad and we split a dinner entree of salmon which was good and they served it on individual plates. We enjoyed wine and had a nice catch up without being rushed to finish.
Good food, as expected from prior visits to the same place prior to make-over. Service was great from 1 staff and ho-hum from another. The make-over really makes the place look nice...and they maintained the open-air feel. But this year has been really bad for flies in the South Bay, and they were literally EVERYWHERE. Staff seemed not to mind, and weren't really interested in improving that for diners. When mentioned to one staff member, she pulled out the salt gun they have to help get rid of the flies...then put it back without using it. I felt like the flies had more of my mixed fruit than I did...it was a pretty gross environment, and something you may expect in a 3rd world country - not in a South Bay restaurant. Had I never been there before, I wouldn't ever consider coming back...it was a disappointing experience when trying to show my GF from out of town how cute Hermosa is...
Went here and had interesting drinks (no real bar, don’t let the drink names fool you).
The pot roast was outstanding! However, we asked the waiter for a recommendation on the fish tacos and he said they were a favorite and very good....They were borderline terrible.
At the end we told him they were extremely bland and really not good and he didn’t seem to care...also didn’t adjust the bill at all and we had ordered two orders on his recommendation.
Overall the place is fine - but don’t expect top quality service!
We weren't given a wine list and the waitress didn't even know the general names like Cabernet or Chardonnay. Appetizer came with the dinner, same time.
Food was good but didn’t blow me away. The fish tacos were mushy and the thin tortilla fell apart quickly. The cauliflower app was a little bit too spicy for my taste. But food is solid, just not amazing. Service was fantastic - we had a fun ongoing chat with our waiter. The ambience is refreshing - lots of natural light. Great for beach adjacent dining.
Food is totally mediocre. Our server was really nice but had too many tables and I needed more water bad!! Ambience is nice, the hostess was lovely
We were greeted immediately and warmly. Service was excellent as was the food. We had breakfast and all the meals were delicious. The interior of the restaurant is beachy and inviting. We will definitely be back!
Good menu choices and well prepared. Good quality and value. Fun atmosphere!!
Service on a Sunday brunch was extremely slow. Not due to being busy, just really slow.
Bottomless mimosas were a good price. Breakfast was pretty average. But a friend had something from
lunch and was a completely different experience. Seats need cushions out on the front patio, made for
a long morning sitting on stone.
Super noisy inside when the roll-up doors are closed! Couldn’t even hear the person across from me...it echoes bad!!! Food was decent, service was great! Perfect if you’re looking for something healthy & local that’s no too pricey...portions could have been bigger...overall experience was good! I would go back for a quick healthy dinner or brunch with a friend!
Great local spot! Food was fantastic and has a great ambiance! The only thing is he musical was just a little loud, but plan to go back soon!!
However, struggled w sunshine glaring in my face during 6:30 pm dinner reservation. They need some window treatments on the windows facing 2nd Street!
Pot roast was amazing! Cool casual vibe, fun with friends:)
Great new restaurant in Hermosa! Friendly , casual & upscale all together! I had the ahi, crab cakes & heirloom tomato caprese salad ! It all was really good!
We’ll be returning for sure!!!!
Crab cakes a bit burned with little chunks of shell and didn't think the citrus really integrated well. Caprese salad was nice and I liked the prosciutto wrap around. Wine was nice. A couple of the servers wear an off putting level of perfume which I think is low brow. Prices are inexpensive. Ppl smoking out in the sidewalk - illegally and unchecked with the smell coming in the Hermosa ave entrance. Overall not impressed.
New place working out the kinks. We’ll definitely try it again. Problem with my food and they couldn’t quite get it right but they tried.
LOVE this cute new neighborhood spot! Awesome food and decor. Brought my bf & Dad last Friday; was a little busy so service wasn't as attentive but the food is wonderful. Definitely a must-try!
Service was great. Cute place. I wish my ahi salad was better but appetizers were good.
For being open less than a month the food, service and ambiance was stellar! You would never know they just opened. Really enjoyed everything. Food - delicious, service - great and decent choices and prices. We'll definitely make this a regular on the local restaurant rotation!
Great food, great value a welcome addition to the neighborhood. But TOO LOUD. Not the music, the place just needs some sound softening, it's almost impossible to have a conversation if the restaurant is full.
Love this new restaurant. Will be a regular.
GREAT new local dining venue. Wonderful food and service. We will definitely be going back.
Lunch meeting and although some meters take credit cards, not all. You’ll want to bring quarters.
Decor was Beachey and bright. Hostess lovely and. Friendly. Wait staff courteous.
Food was ok. Had the charcuterie board but couldn’t eat the bread. So hard. However waiter quickly replaced.
Overall a nice neighborhood spot.
Good food and fun, casual ambiance
