Need to book at 1:45 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
It was spectacular. The staff was incredible- accommodating and kind. We had a fantastic time and will continue to return for family occasions and special meals. It’s a total experience and the food is wonderful!
Our server was amazing! I wish I could remember her name.
In NYC with friends
It was a beautiful atmosphere but the food was only just ok.
Sunny did a fantastic job serving us and really went above and beyond. We always have a great time there and this time was no different.
Good ambience. Waitress was blah.
Food and wine was good.
Pretty but not worth it. Made a reservation, but we were not seated right away. Waitress no where to be found. Food was not great (esp not worth the price.) Ambience is pretty, but overall not worth it at all. Maybe go there grab a drink at the bar, and snap your insta pic but not worth dining there at all.
Sadly, I'm giving my experience at Serra Alpina two stars mainly because the incredible noise level made our time there sheer torture.
We arrived a few minutes early for our 19:30 reservation and were finally seated at 20:10. The food was perfectly acceptable and it was well priced. Our party of 3 shared 3 appetizers, we each had a main and a glass of wine for a total of 150.00, not including gratuity.
The cheese board had 3 cheeses, generous portions of each, the olives and nuts were, well, olives and nuts, the only let down was the cauliflower- potato puree which could have used a tad more seasoning. I had the beet and goat cheese risotto and it was very good.
But the restaurant is so incredibly loud that I would never consider a return.
I was celebrating my birthday with a friend. Everything was fine. Though the menu was limiting to my friend and I as we have dietary restrictions. My biggest complaint is that our server (Arielle) charged the entire bill on my card even though my friend and I split the bill and we both received receipts for the split amount. There was no mention of my card being charged by mistake. And the restaurant was not nice or accommodating when I called this morning to handle the issue. I am still awaiting for them to call me back. What a HORRIBLE experience on my birthday. I will NEVER be going back here again.
Magical restaurant with excellent food! A definite A+
Serra had an absolutely gorgeous environment. The seasonal decor was a really great touch that left a smile on my face the entire time. The staff was incredibly kind and the food was delicious. It was noisy, though not overwhelming. A little pricey but for the environment and food it was absolutely worth it. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Amazing environment! My friend was late meeting me but they did not rush service. Food was fresh, clean and delicious. Impeccable. Wonderful, I highly recommend it.
Very Friendly and good food. Entertaining and great interior!
beautifully decorated, casual, dinner was ok..not bad not amazing
Beautiful decor and amazing food!
I think the menu at this restaurant needs a bit of work. I understand it may be geared a bit more towards tourists and is on a rooftop, but the prices for what you get leaves a bit to be desired. I also know that this is more of a "themed" restaurant, but they only had a couple of risottos on the menu and NO pasta and lots of full main dishes and charcuterie. I have eaten at the restaurants downstairs in Italy and their food and prices/value are much much better. I chose this for a special birthday for my neice. I even put notes in the reservation I made, but our seating and the way we were treated were as if we just walked off the street. This place is very mediocre and sadly underwhelming. This is coming from someone who has lived and eaten her way around NY for over 20+years.
To be honest I was very excited to try Serra but was extremely disappointed. Our server took 15-20 minutes to take our drink & food order and then took what felt forever to get our drinks/food. Our starter was great but the mains were just ok - balsamic chicken was very dry and not a lot of flavor and the celery root was very creamy and was not expecting that. Will only go back for drinks.
The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. The waiter explained the specials and was knowledgeable about what wine paired well with the food we were ordering. The calamari was fresh and nice shareable portion for a table of 4. My steak was cooked perfectly and the carrots had a nice bite.
My group and I went here to celebrate a birthday and brought a cake from an outside bakery. It was explained by the hostess when I handed her the cake that there is a cake cutting charge per person. At the end our dinner we asked for 1 slice of cake for the celebratory person but everyone at the table was charged, although we didn’t get a slice of cake. The server and the manager admitted the term “cake cutting fee” is worded poorly, as you are led to believe the amount of slices of cake is what causes the charge. All in all we were still charged the fee per person. The terms of charge were inappropriately explained and therefore it ruined our entire experience as it didn’t leave me completely satisfied.
It is terrible that the ambiance and the food that set such a good tone for us to want to come back was ruined by the lack of proper straight forward communication by the staff.
Our server was slow and inattentive. Two of our entrees were way over cooked. They gave us free dessert and wine to compensate which was very nice of them. However, we would have preferred yummy food the first time around than the dessert and wine. The ambiance is amazing. I wish the food and service matched.
Great food, excellent service. Amazing decor and ambiance, a little noisy and high prices for the portion is my only complaint but to be expected in NYC. Perfect for a group
This was extremely disappointing.
First- it took 15 minutes for anyone to come to our table.
Second- we ordered a dish that was to have truffles shaved table side (the server even mentioned that). When the dish came, it already had the truffles on it. For $25, it was a sad, pathetic amount.
Third- we ordered mocktails and they came after our food had already been on the table.
Fourth- our waitress seemed like she knew she hadn’t given us attentive service, so at the end of the meal when we asked for the cheque, she threw in a couple “loves” “thank yous” and “namastes” to try to win us back, but unfortunately, it was far too late.
Great as usual. Good service and beautiful spot in Flatiron.
food was phenomenal and served very quickly. Excellent wine choices. Decorated very tastefully for winter and the atmosphere was very cozy. Did not realize how large the actual restaurant was, seats many people so it can get loud and the tables are quite close. That did not take away from the experience though. I would definitely consider coming back in the summer as well when the rooftop is open.
The place is beautiful but the food is less than average.
Serra Birreria is very pretty and decorated well. I went during the winter for their "alpine" theme. I'd go back only to experience the decor for the other seasons. However, the food was limited in variety (no pasta options on the dinner menu..) and it is pricey for the small portions. What was most egregious about our visit though was the astounding 40 minutes we had to wait to even place a drink order. That's right. Not one single waiter came to our table for an entire 40 minutes after we were seated. I tried to wave down waiters and make eye contact with those passing by, to no avail. When our waiter finally did arrive, I only told him "we've been waiting 40 minutes and we still haven't even been able to order a drink" and he simply said "well I'm here now so you can order a drink" quite nonchalantly. No apology or acknowledgment that 40 minutes is truly an amount of time that is absolutely not understandable.
Such a great experience! Great place for drinks, I definitely recommend.
It's a very unique place! Service was great. The decor and vibe of the ppace is just amazing. Beautiful view all around. Each person should get their own main plate. The quantity is perfect for one. We shared plate that way we could try different plates. We will be going back for sure!
The occasion for my dinner at Serra by Birreria was a wonderful second date with my best friend. We were immediately amazed by the decorations in the restaurant but disappointed to sit in front of space heaters that were too hot. Although our waiter was kind, he seemed spacy and out of touch with tending to our table. We ran out of water halfway through our meal and was not offered more until after we paid the bill. Furthermore, he spent a lot of time talking to the table next to us and gave us the wrong bill before correcting his mistake. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our evening and had a beautiful night under the lights at Serra by Birreria.
The restaurant was recommended by a friend of a friend. Great place for vegans. It was very pretty but the food was basically over priced risotto. Food options are limited. The only meat other than sausages on the menu was a $59 NY strip but there were lots of cheesy risotto options. Burrata was served cold with two tiny pieces of grilled bread that might be equal to 1/2 slice of bread/toast. Calamari was an extremely small portion served with no sauce, but it was the best thing we ordered. If they had a kids menu, we didn't get one. It was very pretty place, but I would not return for a meal...maybe for drinks or dessert.
Overall nearly perfect except for busser girl who kept clearing our plates while we were still eating
It is a unique menu of Italian. Do not expect pasta and chicken parm. The food is very good and the service was as well. It is quite Pricey but you are paying for the ambiance and the service and the authentic food, I would recommend to someone who wants to try different things
Horrible!! Never again. One of my worst dining experiences ever.
(1) The restaurant and staff are totally hostile to customers with mobility issues. Take the elevator to the 14th floor, fine. But then another flight of stairs to the 15th floor. Ok....but it took 5 minutes for the second elevator from 14 to 15 to come. Then once we made it to the 15th floor, we had to walk up ANOTHER 5 stairs up to the dining room.
(2) I put my walking stick on the floor well under the table, totally hidden from view. I guess the waiter objected because he crouched under the table to retrieve it and gave it to me to hold it. I threw it back down under the table. The waiter was apparently too preoccupied with embarrassing me to mention the specials.
(3) The table was STICKY. I asked twice for the table to be cleaned. The waiter breezed over it with a dirty rag and it was still STICKY.
(4) They served the “fondue” (glorified cheese whiz) without fondue forks or extra utensils so we had to stab the bread with knives so we weren’t double dipping. You don’t serve “fondue” (not that this lukewarm melted glob of cheese remotely constituted fondue) so that everyone is slobbering on their forks and then diving back into the communal fondue pot (here, a tiny ramekin half-filled with goo).
(4) The waiter kept knocking my handbag on the ground. REPEATEDLY.
(4) I ordered a salad for my entree and it came without dressing. Not that I could eat it anyway because I didn’t have a fork and couldn’t find a waiter for 10 minutes.
(5) The elevator from 15 to 14 malfunctioned when we were on it and a piercing alarm went off and the doors kept opening and closing. Some restaurant workers were outside the door just LAUGHING at us and I asked them to fix it. They shrugged and said they couldn’t and it was just broken. I yelled that then I would be MOVING INTO THE KITCHEN PERMANENTLY BECAUSE I COULDN’T WALK DOWNSTAIRS. They hammered on the wall and got it going again.
We shared a bunch of smaller plates, a carafe of spiked cider, and each got a few drinks. Everything was just OK. The calamari was the standout and the bread was good. Otherwise the food was very average and kind of bland. The service was kind of slow and we had to glad the server down to clear the table after sitting there for quite a while with empty plates. I will say the ambiance was pleasant though the crowd is mostly tourists.
The rooftop restaurant is beautiful. The food is satisfactory, but far from outstanding. The cost per plate and the size of the portions both need some revision. Overall, a lovely place to visit, but not the greatest place to eat.
Every every bite was delicious! Very cool winter ambiance...dreamy, in fact. Quite busy for the time we ate (4:15pm on a Saturday and tables that cleared turned over right away). Definitely recommend the spuntini...one could make a meal out of sharing them and a selection of the antipasti.
Hermoso lugar, carta acotada pero muy buenos platos
The food was amazing. Totally authentic and delicious. The way the space was decorated for the season just made our visit there so lovely and enjoyable.
Great experience - wish there were more pasta options! Loved the gnocchi last year
