Serpas Ratings and Reviews
I had a 2:30 reservation for brunch and arrived at 2:30. I was seated promptly and my waiter immediately came to take our drink order. We asked for a moment to look over the cocktail menu . When the waiter returned, we gave him our drink order and an appetizer order. Since my dining companion still seemed to be mulling over the entree choices, I asked if the waiter could go ahead and turn in the drink order and appetizer order and then come back for the rest. He then informed us that the kitchen was "closing in 8 minutes". I looked at my watch and the time was 2: 38. This told me two things: 1) he left us for about 7 minutes between the first visit to take our drink order and the second, and; 2) he decided that instead of the 3:00 posted close time of the restaurant, he had decided to close the kitchen at 2:46...odd time to close a kitchen. We placed our orders. Appetizer arrived before our cocktails and, of course the entree came out just about a minute after that. At 3:05 the waiter put the check on our table. No offer of anything after our entree, but, then again, I guess the whole enterprise was shut down at that point. As for the food, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with short ribs. The short ribs were good. One of my poached eggs was overcooked so I had no runny yolk. Runny yolk to me is rule 1 of Eggs Benedict.
This was our first visit to Serpas. I have to say that the food was outstanding. The crab toast appetizer was terrific. The entree selection was very good. We chose the duck and one of the seafood dishes. Both were flavorful and well prepared. The downside to the evening had to do with the service. At the beginning the hostess was not very engaging and did not seem to enjoy her job or interacting with guests. Our server was also aloof and did not really try to connect with us at any level. I don't expect us to develop a friendship but a little friendliness is a good thing. Cocktails took a longtime to arrive after ordering. The bar seemed to have an issue with dozens of dirty glasses stacking up in the same area that servers were to place their orders and pickup drinks. The dirty appetizer plates were not removed until we floated someone down to ask them to clear the table. We wanted to order some wine to have with our meal but the server was no where to be found. We asked the person who delivered our meals but apparently that message did not get passed along. We were more than half-way through our meal when I walked to the bar to try to get some wine. Finally it was delivered. A floor manager did apologize for the problems and comped our cocktails which was good of them to do. Next time we may just eat at the bar!
Waited 1.5 hours for dinner to arrive after ordering. Waitress was standoffish and either failed to enter our order or address the mixup with management. Our experience warranted a visit and explanation. The occasion was my wife’s birthday with family visiting. In addition to poor service our steaks were not cooked to temperature ordered. For dessert my father ordered ice cream and the kitchen sent it out 5 minutes before everyone else’s dessert.
Will not be going back and will share this experience with anyone who ask.
The restaurant is beautiful. We've been there many times and have been super happy all other times, but were disappointed this time. Oysters, steak frittes and cocktails were all great. The trout was pretty overdone and the server was in a rush which detracted from the evening. Certainly will try again, may have been an off night.
The dining experience was good. The food was excellent, the wine list was just alright, the cocktails were awesome, the service was decent. The one issue was how clueless the hostesses were. Two other people at the bar had the same complaint. Just an interesting first experience that I’ve never experienced at a restaurant of that quality.
The appetizers are better than the entrees, but the wine is really good. My boyfriend and I went on NYE for our anniversary, there was a party with noisemakers (I mean, I get it but it's still a restaurant). The food was fine, not really worth how expensive it all ended up being...probably wont return.
