I have been to better restaurant that aren't Michelin star. The food was ok but didn't have a wow factor. Very disappointed.
The waiter served our red Burgundy in Bordeaux glasses, which typically wouldn't be so bad, except that a table next to ours did get the appropriate Burgundy glasses. It also seemed odd that other tables received an amouse bouche but we did not. The food was good, though I found dinner the night before at Bistro Campagne to be far superior in all respects.
The team at Sepia was spot on. We had theater performance to follow our evening meal, and I have never seen such prompt or efficient service. Each dish was immaculately prepared and yet arrived nearly instantaneously. Our server was friendly, and everyone went out of their way to accommodate our family despite three generations of guests at the table (ages 13-77). The menu was creative, the cocktails well crafted, and the every dish was delicious.
The food was excellent and so was the service. The restaurant is small so it can get a little loud very quickly.
It is expensive but worth the money to celebrate a special evening.
Amazing tasting menu and ambiance
Overall experience was good.
Loved the service! Overall, it was okay. Food was fine, atmosphere a little uninspiring. Glad I went simply to check it off my list.
We had a lovely evening. The chefs tasting menu was superb.
Service was spot on, our server was very knowledgeable and attentive!
Pre show dinner was so wonderful. Wines picks by staff perfectly matched beautifully prepared meal. Cavatelli w morels and black garlic. Yum. Asparagus soup. Sturgeon entree. Cod entree. All beautiful. Will make a point to return here!!
I have been at Sepia two times with my husband and we have always been very pleased with everything. The service is outstanding. Staff is attentive, but not hovering. I highly recommend the endive salad with horseradish dressing - definitely to die for. I had the chicken and my husband had the beef - both dishes looked and tasted delicious! Our friends ordered old fashions and commented that this was the best old fashion they'd every had. Go to Sepia - you will not be disappointed.
Last evenings experience at Sepia certainly was not the same as we enjoyed in the past. Our server was overly pushy to get our drink and food orders, when we obviously were engaged in a business discussion. So much so that colleagues from Switzerland commented upon it, and when the server was asked if the table had to be flipped, the response returned was "no"...so why the frequent interruptions.
Those in the group whom have dined at Sepia previously, felt that the quality of the food was not what was experienced in the past. Sepia certainly is a favourite for my wife and I and we will be back. However, based on this, our most recent experience, we would be hesitant to recommend it to others.
Waiter was there at all times and was attentive to all our needs.
Great experience! The food was well-presented, but maybe a bit overpriced. The service was great!
Still going strong, this dining experience by Chef Zimmerman always delivers. With seasonal ingredients combined classically yet with modern flourish, we’re always surprised and delighted. The Bartending team pay similar attention to their signature cocktails. Embrace the fantastic wine list with help from the sommelier team; it will result in terrific pairings be it one bottle or part of a tasting menu. The service team is excellent.
The food and drinks were just fabulous. IT was pricey, but well worth the cost.
Drinks were inspired, food was excellent and well paired, and Roxy was an exceptional host!!
This place was goooood. Lovely experience. I took my wife here for Mother's Day and she already wants to come back. It's a pretty pricey but well worth it.
Very disappointing honestly. The food was mediocre and the service had it's off moments. We had the tasting menu and my fiance's salmon was undercooked and they had to remake it. And there were multiple times that dishes were cleared before our entire group was done eating. The wagyu was the best savory course but the dessert definitely outshined the whole meal...and if it were with a better meal overall it probably would have fit better. The pappardelle was oily and flat, the crudo was quite dry and mundane, and the salmon was just eh. For nearly 200 dollars a person we really expected to be wowed and we were far from that. Definitely dont plan to return
The food was absolutely amazing. Very creative and unique dishes. The service was poor and extremely slow. We did the tasting menu and waited 30 minutes with no food between two of our dishes. Our waitress checked on us once during our over 2 hour long dinner. For the price and reputation of this restaurant I expected much better service. The food made the visit worth it though.
Lovely, refined space with inviting lighting and decor. Service was relaxed but thoroughly professional. In particular, our waitperson was very knowledgeable about the wine list and made excellent pairing recommendations. Also helped our gluten-free member find suitable menu items. Food was terrific, especially the cod. Not cheap, but worth it.
The food was very well prepared, and perfectly portioned (Well, I could always go for more dessert, but that's a personal problem). We went on a Wednesday for my Birthday, and did the tasting menu. Dishes were brought out at a comfortable pace, and the our servers were all very attentive.
We did not try the a la carte menu, but if the quality of food is as good as the tasting menu, then I will for sure be coming back to try every single dish.
Tempura asparagus not that great. Scallops and salad good and the cod was done perfectly
It was my first time at Sepia. Our server was great. I have a difficult food allergy and they managed it perfectly. It limits what I can order. The food was very good but not "OMG" outstanding. It was plated beautifully. They brought complimentary amuse buche before dinner and a little sweet ( macaron and strawberry marshmallow) at the end.
The food and wine for the tasting menu were superb. Each of the items were beautifully prepared and designed to please all of your senses. Each course was larger than expected although still a tasting menu and not a full course. The best part was our waiter Gabriel Alejandro. He was helpful and friendly without being intrusive. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and the wine and we had several excellent conversations about what we were eating and drinking. It was an exceptional meal and an Extraordinary dining experience
I very much enjoyed Sepia, but had I not eaten at Boka just before, I think I would have enjoyed it more. It's not that Sepia is not a very good restaurant, but for another restaurant that is similarly revered to be so noticeably better is shocking to me. That said, the pappardelle appetizer was amazing, as was the single barrel old fashioned. The fallafel was also a big hit at our table. The service was good, but a bit clumsy at times, though I liked that they waited until everyone finished eating to remove any dishes from the table - classy. Overally it is very very good. But for the same price, go to Boka. For sure.
Great meal. Lived up to the expectation!
A little noisy
But food was ok excellent
The food and wine at Sepia never disappoint! And they were very conscientious about getting us out in time for the play we were attending after dinner.
Absolutely one of our favorite places to dine in Chicago.
Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but the food was bland and prices were high. Not a good combo. Service was fine. I had the tasting menu and about the only good item was salmon. But the rest was blah.
Ridiculously small portions service terrible service took over 3 hours for the meal waited excessively long between courses
Everything from the ambiance to food and service was outstanding. I enjoy the seasonality of the menu; adds variety. The short rib ragu was a bit salty would be only negative. Other than that, everything was great and Sepia remains a preferred dining location for business meetings and gatherings with friends
Overall, very good food carefully prepared. The food is creative. Portions on the small side. Drinks and wine by the glass are overpriced at $16 each.
Great service and food. Chef was accommodating of dietary restrictions and the duck was phenomenal. Wish I had come to dinner with a bigger appetite!
Continues to be our favorite restaurant in Chicago
Loved the spicy grilled sturgeon and the tempura asparagus!
VERY small portions (which is ok w me) but extremely expensive for a petit entree w zero sides.
I took a client here for a late lunch and everything was just as I have come to appreciate over the years. We both appreciated the respectful, high-level service, the delectable menu choices and the ability to have a conversation without shouting. This is my go-to business lunch location and once again, you did not disappoint.
Sepia is my favorite restaurant in Chicago.
The tasting menu is one of the best I’ve ever had.
I highly recommend requesting one of Tangie’s tables. She is incredible and always given us a top notch dining experience.
