Absolutely top-notch in all respects. They deserve that Michelin star.
Amazing as always!
went for lunch. First time visiting.
Had potato leek soup for lunch, served cold. It was very good, although I'd rather have warm soup. The menu doesn't state that it is served cold. I thought that was a negative aspect of the serving. Then had house made pastrami sandwich and sepia burger. Both were very good.
The burger was cooked perfectly and juicy. Finished with an order of cookies. You get 1 choc chip, 1 double chocolate, 1 snickerdoodle and 1 ginger. All were very good. Overall good experience, although a bit expensive, but we were splurging. Would like to go back for ninner
What a fantastic experience. The service was so excellent! The food was great. We sat at the outside patio and they even brought a cute bday plate. Very special and we will certainly return!!!!
First time there, the food was excellent as was the service. Cocktail menu was very nice. My wife had the Halibet and I had the Duck, both were excellent. The best item we had was the Lamb appetizer off the chart good. Will be back for sure !
Really the service was nearly perfect, except for a delay in getting a glass of wine with my meal. Not one complaint about the food--beautiful and delicious.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Great Happy Hour drinks, exquisite food, excellent service.
Definitely coming back when in town.
I took my wife her for her birthday. This place was recommended to us by a chef friend and it did not disappoint. We decided to do the tasting menu that consisted of 5 courses. Each course was amazing and just the right amount of food. After it was all done we both said it was one of the top 5 meals we have ever eaten.
I was impressed. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was on point. Will definitely go back, it's now one of my new favorites!
Fantastic place. We had a secluded room in the back that was fantastic. The somm was absolutely wonderful and really made it an amazing night.
This restaurant by far exceeded my expectations. I practice a vegan lifestyle and they put together 4 courses + dessert for me that were not only delicious, but beautiful and innovative! My friend is an animal eater and had the standard 5 course meal and it was fun to be able to eat all the different foods in the same manner as my friend. It was very festive and elegeant and i would highly recommend! If you are vegan, you have to go!
P.s. drinks and strong and unique and excellent quality as well :-)
It was our first time in Chicago, the minute we came in ,I wanted to leave, because the first thing when you come in to the place, a smell like of a wet basement with old staff hits you in the nose. Maybe its the old, faded, probably never washed curtains ? Anyway,
For entre I ordered salad with dressing on a side , they brought it together.
I ordered fish and it had a smell too like it wasn't very fresh. My husband had pork which was just ok. We didnt stay for deserts and I returned the fish and left the place hungry and unhappy. Better go EVEREST-great food , service , had a great time!
Very nice night. Exertions was attentive and the food was amazing. The Halibut was a bit dry but the surrounding ingredients were very good. Please order the chocolate dessert. Amazing! Thanks for a special night sepia.
What a great time we had at Sepia for my wife's birthday. The ambiance was wonderful, the service was outstanding and the food topped it all. We highly recommend it!
The service was terrible and the food was average. There are too many other restaurants in Chicao to experience vs. spending your time and money at Sepia.
Great food. Wonderful service. We will be back for sure.
Excellent food but slow service
Disappointed from Michelin star restaurant, place was neglected and almost empty, service was not for the level it should be and the most important thing: food was not at the level to win a Michelin star !!
Wine geeks, Take heed: Olivia (sommelier) will steer you right.
Excellent by-the-glass options, especially bubbly, and in particular grower champagne.
Just go. Scallop appetizer out of this world. Halibut and white asparagus entree perfection. And oh the cheesecake. Pastry chef knows her stuff. If you like a place that is filled with locals rather than tourists who are serious about their food, this is it. One of the best meals I've had in a long time.
The service, food, and wine pairings were wonderful!
Excellent app, cocktail, dessert...I was a bit disappointed in the pork entree...I think it was me though. The dinner was an overall extremely enjoyable experience!
I'm a little disappointed with the main course. The Grilled Asparagus and the Chocolate Mousse were really good, but the Rohan duck was uninspiring. The skin was nice and crisp, but the meat itself was flavorful in some sections and tough, dry, and tasteless in others. At this price point and with this amount of hype surrounding the place - not to mention the Michelin star - you expect everything to be perfect and it wasn't.
I complained about the duck, but no one said or did anything about it, which to me, is not a sign of great service at all. I came away a little disheartened because I'd hoped to really savor that experience and I couldn't.
went to sepia early on Sunday evening with my daughter before the (incredible) Robert plant concert at Pritzker. our server, Amy, was outstanding and the drinks + food were outstanding. special kudos to their amazing breads; cheese plate; and cheescake. Subtle, clean food in a sophisticated, urbane environment with a pleasantly low noise level. Outstanding experience!
Celebrated my husband’s birthday here. The tasting menu is amazing! Highly recommend doing that so you can get a feel for Sepia’s flavors. We did a couple cocktails instead of the wine pairing, which were all fantastic.
The service is terrible and the appetizer is not so tasteful.
Chef Zimmerman’s food never ever ceases to amaze me. I can’t believe food can taste so good! Hands down one of the best Chefs in Chicago.
Tasting menu for a business dinner was exceptional.
We ate on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant was packed. That said, our experience, including both service and food, was excellent. Kim, our server, knows us and is gracious, welcoming, and eager to share information about the menu options. As a result of information she provided, we chose the special pasta with truffle sauce as one appetizer. It was outstanding! Our main courses - rabbit and duck - we both beautifully prepared. Kim is also knowledgeable about the wine selections, and provided excellent choices to match our food. One strength of Sepia is that the tables are well-spaced, allowing for easy conversation at the table even when the restaurant is busy. It was a wonderful experience and is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. It fully deserves its reputation as a destination restaurant.
Fantastic food, service and experience. We will return!
Each of us enjoyed our meal, they were exceptional. Our server, Tangie, and the wine steward, Rebecca/Rachel (?) was also very helpful. Love Sepia.
Nice place, but the Manhattan I ordered was ridiculously expensive! I was charged $18 for the bourbon itself and another $3 for the mix, bringing the grand total to $21. Woodford Reserve is a good bourbon, but nothing exotic. Normal price for such a drink in a nice bar or restaurant would be $12-$14. My wife’s martini was also overpriced.
The food was excellent. We enjoyed the food and wine tasting. Service was excellent.
The service was very poor; it took almost 45 minutes to get our entree. No one came by to explain. No one explained the dishes or checked to see how it was after the food arrived. Very disappointing...too many good places in Chicago to waist a night out here.
Terrific service! Food was good, well prepared and presented.. W
The food and wine pairing were amazing on the Chef’s tasting menu. Highly recommend it
Delicious food, creative, fantastic wine. Ambiance and service are great.
Service was decent and the waitress was pleasant but sometimes she disappeared for a bit longer than felt right. The room itself was lovely with an understated elegance and a subdued but pleasant ambience. We did not have to yell at each other to have a conversation. I like that.
The first sign of trouble came when a request for a spicy margarita required the (very helpful and accommodating) bartender to get out what seemed to be a chemistry set's worth of elixirs worthy of Professor Snape's stock of potions to create the drink. It wasn't bad actually but it seems this kind of drink can be made with much less fuss.
Our "to start" orders included the charcuterie and selection of artisan cheeses and the ricotta cavatelli with lamb ragu. The charcuterie and cheeses were fine but nothing especially memorable and (here it comes again) the portions were smallish. If there was ricotta in the cavatelli that had more the consistency of pastina than cavatelli, it was very shy and hiding from us. The dish was mostly hard pieces of pasta with breadcrumbs.
The entrees were equally unremarkable although one of our friends had the "rohan duck" with which she was very pleased. I had the striped bass, which was perfectly cooked and had a wonderfully crispy skin. But it was served on top of shaved strips of butternut squash that were tough and flavorless. The bass had very little flavor as well. All of the dishes were nicely displayed but bland, bland, bland. Other entrees were the roasted rabbit and the chicken breast; neither garnered a particularly favorable comment. Dessert saved the meal a bit as the carrot cake and ricotta cheesecake (this time the ricotta actually appeared) were tasty. Hooray and kudos to the pastry chef.
Total tab was about $240 a couple with tip. It did not seem nearly worth that given the many other choices in the city that provide better food at better prices.
Overall beat restaurant I've eaten at in a while. Beautiful plates, excellent service, everything tasted great.
I'll be back for sure!
