Not bad in totally for the restaurant week. But the food is not as good as a Michelin is supposed to be and the waitress is not very nice to us.

A taste adventure! The trout was perfectly prepared and the Thai sandwich very flavorful. I like Sepia for a special meal. Their coffee is great with the chocolate dessert full of flavor and texture.

It was Restaurant Week so we ordered both options on the pre-fixed menu. We enjoyed the ambience despite it being pretty crowded due to the lunch hour. A great selection for restaurant week. We especially enjoyed the Thai chicken sandwich.

This restaurant is just ok. I don't have the taste to evaluate such a good dish. The only thing I mentioned is the environment, dark but not quiet, if you need a place to cackle, it will be good.

A delicious restaurant, worth to try. Restaurant week menu changed, but I like it. Everything is fine, it's exactly a Michelin one star restaurant.

My recent experience was the polar opposite of my previous one. There, I noted the creative, well-prepared food but lamented the incredibly slow service. This last Saturday the service was exceptionally quick (almost to a fault) but the food was "meh." I had a trout (steelhead, though not specified on the menu) that was well-prepared but lacking any "wow" factor--I make just as good at home. The rabbit pate as an opener was fine, but nothing special. The wine flight was 4 very small pours with nothing terribly special (and unlike many place with set menus there was no matching the wine with the dishes--you just got a white, rose, red and desert wine). I will withhold final judgment, however, as this was Restaurant Week in Chicago, thereby limiting their menu, though you'd think they'd have shown a bit more creativity if they're trying to expand their customer base (the whole purpose of participating in the Restaurant Week).

We had lunch here during the restaurant week. It was packed at 1 pm. The bread roll was nicely baked, hot and airy with seed on top of it. I had the kale salad with parmesan crisp and it's on the heavy side. For entree, I had trout which was well cooked but not very special. The side salad with bacon bits was very enjoyable. Dessert - Paris Brest was a puff pastry filled with chocolate cream and it was delicious with the rice puffs and cream cheese whip. Overall, the flavor here is lacking the wow factor for me though the ingredients are of good quality, service is standard, and maybe it's because of the restaurant week.

Didn’t realize it was the start of restaurant week. Only pre fixe menu, two choices/three courses available, and this menu only will be available throughout restaurant week. Really?

Upon ordering, no duck fat fries? No I will not be able to order any. (Though they are served with the Thai chicken sausage sandwich). Quietly I asked my guest to ask for extra fries with his meal. Waiter responded he will ask the kitchen. Hmmmm. Response, yes we will be able to have extra fries with a charge.
The four of us ordered the soup and mine was served first (I was the only female) , server over poured my serving and he needed to compensate the last three bowls. Last serving was light, probably only two or three spoons. We wondered if he would return with more, unfortunately no.
The remaining service was fine. Only fine. I will return because I do enjoy my meals there, especially the seafood. I would request a different server if I see the same person. I just felt like I was slighted.

I love this restaurant. Sadly, on this night the Kale salad was too
salty and the duck was tough and under cooked.

We had a great time. The wine was great, recommended by the waiter.
The food was delicious.
The only unfortunate things is that the tables are too close.

Sepia is always exceptional. From the food to the service and the ambience this restaurant never misses. We love to go as often as we can. It's the little touches that matter that they do so well.

This was my second time dining at Sepia, again everything was outstanding. I don't have a sweet tooth so the had the venison tartar as my dessert (while my date had sweet) and asked it to be paired with a dessert wine; the sommelier blew me away with her choice; it perfectly complimented and even enhanced the insanely delicious venison. Bravo!

Beautiful presentation of food however, our table was too close to the next and it felt intrusive. Limited menu. Small portions and a la carte add up quick.

I chose Sepia because it is close to the Lyric Opera. Sepia opens at 5 and we had a 5:15 reservation. There were already several parties there when we arrived. The wait staff was friendly and gave us just the right amount of attention. The menu had a well-chosen range of options. The wait staff made sure our meal was not rushed, but that we had plenty of time to get to the performance. The food was delicious. We had the duck and the striped bass. Dessert was the peanut butter mousse. Fantastic! I will definitely come to Sepia again for a pre-opera dinner. It is just a quick walk away and really set the tone for a beautiful evening.

Jose came through with the duck recommendation. I was about to order two beef shanks as my fiancée and I both really love braised beef, but that duck was to die for.

I've been a chef for over 25yrs. The night before going to Sepia we went to Alinea which was amazing.

I NEVER write reviews.

I have been to Sepia a hand full of times over the past 10years and NEVER had a bad meal, in fact every meal has been close to perfect.

We live in NYC and used to go to a place called Commerce in the West Village (which sadly is now closed) and i can honestly say my top three restaurants i've been in the US

- Commerce (no longer sad)

- REDD - in Nappa (we went the night after going to French Laundry)

- Sepia

All out restaurants should be, perfect menus, great service without being stuck up, amazing bread though to desserts

Service and drinks were very good, except the vodka drink, but I don't like vodka. I forget the name of the drink. 2 of the 3 appetizers were good, but one was bad, and the entrees were fair but forgettable. Desserts were very good. I wouldn't go back because there are so many restaurants to try in Chicago, but I didn't mind it for one visit.

I'll preface my review by saying that the service and ambiance were great! My critique is strictly about the food!

Imagine receiving a serving of tortellini with only 4 shells of pasta in an oversized bowl, no meat. OR imagine macaroons the size of a marshmallow!

I am a foodie and consider myself to be a connoisseur of fine dining in Chicago, as I was born and raised in this city. I came to this place for New Years Eve simply because they were offering a "six- course meal" dining experience for the evening. At a whopping price of $125/ person, one would expect to leave full and satisfied. However, what we received were six TASTE PORTIONS (if you can even consider them that) of entrees from their regular menu.

Although the dishes were served separately, everything we ate could have fit onto one large plate with space to spare. The overall taste of the food left more to be desired, as there is nothing that I would absolutely have to try again. Needless to say, I left this place still hungry, dissatisfied, and $300 less wealthy than I walked in.

One of the best dining experiences I have had, the ambiance and service were stellar and the dishes we had were not only plated perfectly but were executed without flaws and to top it off the cocktails here were fabulous. I would highly recommend and have already recommended this truly fantastic restaurant to others.
