Dining experience was wonderful. Food was amazing. Very excellent wine choices and pastry choices were beyond.
Always consistenly great dishes and outstanding service.
Good food, can be a bit pricey, but would recommend to a friend.
I have dined at Sepia many times over the years and they never disappoint. Always on target and firing all cylinders.
First michelin restaurant experience and I honestly see why it's Michelin worthy. From presentation to food quality to great service. Chef tasting menu are quite unique, as ingredients you dont expect to go well together infact does with chef Andrew creation. Overall, I had a very good first Michelin experience. And to add that it was a bit hard to reserve a 1 person table at other Michelin restaurant in town, but Sepia was able to provide.
We had not been to Sepia in a while and we were delighted to experience its incomparable quality again. Fish entrees and cheese plate were exceptional and the Manhattans we had at the bar were some of the best we have ever had. My husband ordered the pork but said it came out cold...
The meal was outstanding, however something was going on in the kitchen that adversely impacted the timing between courses. It wasn’t just our table. It appeared to be systemic. Our waiter did “comp” our desserts and apologized for the delayed service. I would dine here again.
I have dined with Sepia three other times and the food was always delicious and fresh. Our last time there was a big disappointment. Our server was very slow and unresponsive. The food, while we knew was expensive, was completely average. The pastas tasted like something I would purchase out of the box at a grocery store, the felafel was overdone and stale, and the fish was unimpressive. Perhaps the restaurant has been around too long to stay fresh and exciting. Our party of four was disappointed. We are not planning to be back.
Food was very good. Dishes we slightly salty especially the falafel. Small portion sizes which is okay if you know up front.
Tasting menu for New Year's Eve was delicious and wine pairings were excellent. I have really enjoyed my two visits. This place could easily become a regular stop for me.
Sadly after celebrating our anniversary we were a bit disappointed. Seafood dish turned out to be too spicy for both my daughter and I. I would have shared this with the server, but she was busy.
enjoyed the entire experience at Sepia
everything we ordered, we liked.............soup, cheese board appetizer, falafel entree, fluke entree, side of squash, and dessert
good selection of (and fairly priced) wines
cocktails were excellent
order the tempura squash while its still on the seasonal menu (its a side dish)
the chocolate mousse dessert was great
unlike nearby Randolph Street and Fulton Market area, it is kind of quiet and easy to park in the area of Sepia (added bonus)
seems worthy of the Michelin Star - high quality of food and service
Expensive, food didn't taste good, and wait staff was bossy about how they like to do things.
Service and food were amazing! I would definitely go back.
Fantastic! We started with cocktails in the lounge—French 75=delicious! Then tasting menu with wine pairing. Everything wonderful. Our server, Kim, was great-imparted lots of knowledge but in an accessible way. All service was fabulous and the food was phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back!
Tangie our server was amazing. The manager stopped by our table- nice conversation.
Loved the hearty whole grain bread and the swordfish was excellent.
Went for a Christmas Eve eve dinner with a family member. Upon arrival it was nice that they took my jacket but that was about the best thing to happen all night. This is a Michelin restaurant and sure didn’t seem like one. Took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and get a drink order. Every time I finished a drink my glass was cleared but no one asked if I wanted another. When I had to ask it took 15-20 minutes and every time followed with “sorry for the delay”. The problem is the place was 60% full. There is no reason for slowness.
We did the readying menu with wine pairings. It was fantastic. Excellent service and creative food.
Great service and food was superb!
We have been going here on and off for a few years - seems they have fallen off quite a bit - very small portions and no really exciting choices - too bad, it was very good in the past
Great attention to detail and special requests. Food portions were perfect.
Wonderful experience! Amazing food...outstanding service..a guaranteed great night out!
The ambiance and food were great! Unfortunately our server was overly pretentious and seemed somewhat annoyed by us and upsold without mentioning the cost.
An update to this review - the general manager made a personal call to ask about the situation and apologized. I loved his comment: "This is not now we want to be known, please give us another chance." It's impressive that management went to the effort to make a personal call. We will definitely give Sepia another try as we really enjoyed the ambiance and food.
Sepia is my favorite restaurant in Chicago and has been since it opened so many years ago. The food is creative without being pretentious, its a solid portion so you’re plenty satisfied. Contrary to so many others in this city that have high ratings though you need to run to get some tacos after because they spent so long explaining a dish when they should have been making you more.
We started with the scallops and the beet farfalle and it was delicious. We then had Swordfish and the Chicken which was equally as good.
On top of the food, the service is impeccable without being smothering. Ask for Kim as she is funny, has wonderful suggestions and pairings and made our evening even more special than it already was.
The tables were too close together. No privacy whatsoever, the staff was friendly but too busy for any real explanation of the menu. The decor was beautiful.
Excellent food, impeccable service. Delicious wine and cocktails. A wonderful experience.
Wait service was very good; but pace was extremely slow. Food was okay: my fluke was dry and overcooked. The scallops were really good. The amuse bouche wasn't very good at all; poor use of smoke flavors. We were disappointed.
Love Sepia. The tasting menu was creative and outstanding. Wine pairing was expertly done.
They commit a mistake with the tasting menu (brought us the 4th plate as if it were the 2nd one) and they apologized so many times, that they gave us two additional courses to the menu plus complimentary coffee/tea at the end. Really satisfying service.
Very very bad. It took us a 40 minute wait after appetizer until main entree and during that time no one checked in on us. Took us 3 tries and 15 min just to get the check. Was told we would get a happy birthday song but no such thing. No idea how this place has a one star; worst Michelin experience ever
Amazing staff and wine recos!
Food was wonderful. Service was definitely not what I would expect. Only 2 servers covering entire restaurant and they were struggling. Timing of Courses was poor and empty wine glasses. Something was off.
Service was slow, sit at 6:45 left almost 10:15pm
Exceptional meal and service. We appreciated the personal touch shown by all staff as they knew it was a big Anniversary for my wife and I.
Food was slightly cold when brought to us. The service was good and kitchen was accommodating.
The food was tasty, well prepared, nice looking but a little safe, could have used some more character. We had the chefs tasting 5 courses with wine. The proteins were perfectly cooked and the deserts were the show stoppers, the chocolate mousse was benchmark. The wines were all nicely paired and high quality. The place seemed a tad stuffy and could use some updating. The chairs we had looked like covered patio furniture. Overall a good meal not stellar.
Food delicious, creative, well presented. My husband and I enjoyed the wine selections. Staff very attentive and helpful. A memorable dinner.
Great menu for lunch.
The cookies for dessert were fresh and delicious.
Food was creative and well-balanced. Extensive beverage program. Attentive and professional staff. Ambiance was modern and colors calming. I highly recommend the tasting menu. The divine amuse of consomme and smoked carrot was the perfect start to a memorable evening.
