The food was unique and good yet not super memorable either. It is a good place to go for a date night and have few cocktails.
Pre Fixe menu was new to us, we were not expecting it but the food was exceptional, if a bit precious. Desserts were outstanding and service (Kim) was attentive but approachable and fun!
We both had the four course tasting menu. Three of the courses I had are now in the top 5 things I have ever eaten in my life.
Unbelievable. This was one of the best meals and experiences I've ever had. Food was incredible, service was so kind. Will be back.
Sepia was delicious! Every dish was thoughtfully planned, and the portion sizes were perfect. Our server was very knowledgeable and kind, and other staff members were as well. Would love to dine here again!
Was a good experience. Food was good and flavors were balanced. Server was very nice and knowledgeable. Watch for up charge on certain options.
Creative and excellent execution. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an experience
Me and my friends really enjoyed the food in here!
This was one of the best meals we’ve had in at least 4 years. My wife and I did the tasting menu with wine pairings. We got different items for the first 3 courses then the same dessert (chocolate coffee semifreddo, duh). Everything was wonderful. Highlights were the roasted butternut and duck for me. My wife had high expectations for the truffle chicken and black trumpet agnolotti and both dishes exceeded those expectations. The agnolotti paired with the barbaresco was probably the best pairing of the night, but the 10 year tawny port with dessert was equally excellent. Sepia has been and continues to be a stalwart in the high end Chicago dining scene!
We had an amazing time celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Both the service and meal was everything you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Highly recommend spending a romantic evening here.
Drinks- Wine pairing was excellent and cocktails were great/good. Jazz Manouche is a very picture friendly drink and highly recommended.
1st course- Beef tartare was excellent; perhaps a touch creamy but very tasty. Foie gras was a fun play on texture but the least favorite dish of the night.
2nd course- soft boiled egg in truffle consomé was delightful, great flavors. Venison in coffee au jus of sorts was very tasty and the meat was wonderful, but dish was second to the soft boiled egg
3rd course- the steak was by far the best dish of the night and absolutely delicious. The cook was incredible, perhaps needed touch more salt for my personal liking but the dish was amazing. The trout was excellent, the orange flavors were great but the cauliflower purée felt superfluous among the flavors.
4th course- the semifreddo was a great dessert and the winner of the two. The sage French toast was very tasty and the sweet potato ice cream was a highlight. Semifreddo is more traditional and French toast a quirkier dish but both very delicious.
Complementary- the breads, meat and butter at the beginning of the meal were delicious. The guava marshmallow and pistachio chocolate mini crunch bar were a perfect end to the meal. The marshmallow was fascinating and bursting with flavor.
Overall wonderful meal and great for special occasions.
My partner and I dined here for our anniversary and it was excellent. We had two cocktails, The New Romantics and the Jazz Manouche. The New Romantics was great but the Jazz Manouche stole the show. We highly recommend it. For the first course we had the beef tartare au poivre and the crab chawanmushi. Both were excellent choices. For the second course, we had the smoked sablefish and the venison shabu-shabu. The sablefish was amazing, but the venison was a low point of the meal. For the third course we had the striploin and the duck breast. Both were great. The striploin was a fairly straightforward steak, but deliciously done. The duck dish was extremely rich, which I loved, but keep that in mind. For dessert, we had the semifreddo and the creamsicle. Both were wonderfully flavorful, but the creamsicle was a cut above.
The experience was awesome. Tangie was an excellent server. She went above and beyond to make the dining experience great. We really enjoyed our time there! In addition, the food was wonderful! Every course was presented so well, and was decadent! We will be returning.
New year’s eve
Great place with high quality food
A few misses during the 6 courses menu but globally it’s really nice
We loved the atmosphere, classy with nice classic jazz in the background
We recommend it
What a find! We came on New Year’s Eve without knowing anything about the restaurant and it was fantastic. The four-course menu offered many options, and everything we had was inventive, delicious, and unique. Highly recommend!
Fantastic place to have a nice dinner. Went on New Year’s Eve and the tasting menu was excellent. The wine parings were diverse and complimented the food perfectly. Servers were knowledgeable about the food and very nice.
Splendid to say the least.
This culinary experience was well worth the money! I highly recommend the full 4 course with drink pairing!
Service and food are both awesome
The food, in the end, just didn’t measure up to all if the hype.
Sepia is always good. Simple as that.
Finally made it to Sepia which has been on our list for ages. Gutted I didn’t go sooner! What a treat. Scrumptious food, fantastic Menü choices and the four courses (which include an amuse bouche and a little something after) are perfectly proportioned to leave you sated but not stuffed.
I recommend the wine pairing as the resident sommelier was simply a delight.
My personal favorite was the truffled chicken but everything else was just as delicious. We will surely be back soon!
It was perfect from A to Z. The place is very nice and cosy, the service is amazing, and the food is delicious. We loved everything!
Everything was absolutely delicious! The wine pairings were incredible! The service was fabulous!
I like this place. The food was excellent. I had the wine pairing as well and they allowed me to switch out the wines to ones I liked better. I ended up with chenin blanc, burgundy pinot, barolo, and sauternes.
Four course with wine pairing was excellent. Great service. Husband had an enjoyable birthday dinner.
Excelente lugar muy recomendada la comida; solo las mesas pequeñas que son como del área de bar están muy incomodas hubiéramos preferido que nos den mesa en el área de restaurante . La comida esta exquisita y el servicio muy muy bueno
The food and wine pairings were amazing. Outstanding experience. Recommending it to friends already!
Food was very good. Portions are small. 4 courses of small plates. There was no waste as we ate everything. Ambiance is nice. Service very good. Multiple birthday wishes from door to table appreciated. Able to have intimate conversation even though guests not far away. Good wine and cocktails. Enjoyable evening.
Chosen because it was close to the hotel. What a fabulous choice!!
Our server Alex was outstanding. The wine pairings were unbelievable! An absolutely wonderful experience.
Great dining experience.
Explored a Michelin starred restaurant
great food and great experience!
Was a truly lovely first experience and we will be back! Every course was absolutely delicious.
We had an amazing experience at Sepia! The staff were fantastic, friendly, and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding and the ambience was perfect!
We really loved this place. Food was si delicious, and wine pairing was awesome. I highly recommend wine pairing!
Magnificent dining experience. With a party of seven, we had a diverse enough selection that we were able to try most of the available course selections. For us, highlights of the fall 2021 seasonal menu included: steak tartare, crispy soft-boiled egg, herb-crusted back cod, hay-grilled sirloin, venison shabu-shabu, steelhead trout, foie gras, dark chocolate brownie, and the crispy sage French toast.
My son (whose college graduation we celebrated here) had done a lot of research for his special dinner, including watching Chef Zimmerman take down Iron Chef Marc Forgione on and older episode. Fortunately, this meal surpassed his high expectations. Bravo!
As you enter you immediately feel relaxed. That is the feel of the whole restaurant later on. The decor is is simple yet elegant, in keeping with the name. The service is very friendly, but not overly so. The food is exquisite, one of the mst creative and complex in taste that I have ever have. Overall a fantastic experience!
Simply outstanding! I can’t describe how the food could be so intriguing!
