Had relatively high hopes for this dinner but was disappointed. If you have any special dietary requests the place doesn't seem interested in trying to meet them in a way that provides a pleasant dining experience. I don't eat added salt. Any other seasonings would be fine. Instead of adding something - anything - else to my fish dish, it came out plain and totally unseasoned. Same with the salad. The salad had to be remade because I asked for no anchovies and it was topped with them. The noise level on a Sunday night was very high. NYC high, with NYC table spacing. So close together that I was as close to the person at the next table as to the one at my own table. If you go, you're forewarned in case any of these things matter to you.
Excellent food and service. It wasn't our first visit and it won't be our last. Just love Semolina
Very small and intimate. Decor is sparse. That being said, the food, service and value are all fine stars ! Place cold up quickly I definitely recommend reservations !
Delicious innovative food served by a friendly staff!
Always EXCELLENT!!! My favorite place 👍🏼👍🏼
The food was amazing . Two appetizers and fresh pasta for entrees and the bill was 80 dollars ! It’s a bring your own which is perfect . I can’t wait to return ! I rarely write reviews but this deserved 5 star rating ! Service was great
Second time dinning at semolina, it was super yummy as the first time, and the staff super attentive and friendly, I loved it if not as much as my first time, this restaurant will be on my list to dine very frequent
everything was perfect from the atmosphere to the food, to the incredible wait staff! couldn’t recommend higher!
This could well be our favorite restaurant. Everything was perfect. Monica is a wonderful server. We ordered three salads to share, four entrees, and two desserts. All superb.
Once again, everything was perfect. Food and service was fantastic!!!!!
Semolina is a small, very popular local restaurant. The tables are tight and the noise level is very high. Because it is small , understandably , they have put as many tables as possible in the restaurant. Between the waitresses, runners, and hostess there is a lot of activity going on. This definitely took away from my dining experience. The food was good, service was good but nothing I plan on rushing back for. All pasta is homemade. The chef took traditional dishes and personalized them. A burrata (smooth creamy cheese) ended up very crunchy as a result of breadcrumbs being put in the center. He also did a non traditional take on Carbonara, using applewood smoked bacon in lieu of pancetta typically found in the dish. Guess when it comes to food I found out I liked traditional recipes. We were offered dessert menus and there were many selections but we opted to let people waiting have our table.
This was our second time there. With so many great restaurants in the area that says a lot. We will be back.
Love this restaurant. Food is always amazing. Menu changes with the seasons. The carbonara pasta is to die for....the scallops were delicious. We had the cavatelli Nero as one of the pastas. Had the right amount of kick, pasta was done perfectly, and the chunks of lobster were very generous. Overall, a great experience!!
Celebrating a birthday at me and my SO’s go-to restaurant. The service is genuine and attentive, and food exceeds expectations every time. Love the constantly fresh menu.
Very superior, as usual!
Semolina is now one of our favorite restaurants and we can't wait to go back. From the moment we entered the staff welcomed us, and it was obvious that they wanted us to be happy there. We did have to wait a few minutes for our table, but it is understandable. They did not attempt to rush anyone out.
Our server was extremely friendly, attentive and helpful in describing the menu. The homemade pasta is some of the best we've ever had, (and we've dined in Italy.) It's a bit noisy, but we were still able to carry on conversations with our friends and didn't feel we had to raise our voices.
Be sure to make a reservation in advance, it's hard to get in on prime nights, not sure about during the week.
Go.... you'll be glad you did.
Food and service were both excellent but noise level is high.
I made this reservation a week ago when I found out my husband had to work for New Year’s Eve. This would be our new year celebratory dinner. We were running a little behind so we called prior to our reservation and asked if we could push it back 15 minutes. They could not accommodate us. We rushed to get there and arrived nine minutes late. (Most restaurants have a 15 minute policy.) Semolina is in red Bank and the parking is very difficult. Most of the time you have to park far away and walk quite a distance. Of course there was no parking so my husband dropped me off. Instead of sitting me they made me wait for him to arrive. (Even though there were plenty of open tables). By the time we sat down it was 6:19. The food was good and we had our little guy with us, who is not the fastest eater. It took a while for our dinner to come out, but we were not in a rush and not keeping track of time. The waitress came over and asked me halfway through my meal if I was finished yet. I said that I was not and I was still working on it. The second I put my knife down the plate was picked up and dessert menus were placed on the table. The waitress then informed us that we only had five minutes for dessert. We both looked up at her in shock. She said that is the restaurant’s policy each table gets an hour and a half to eat and you did not sit down until 619. So, you only get an hour and 10 minutes to eat. We couldn’t believe it, but she claimed that this is the new policy because of the parking situation. I explained that perhaps since the parking is such an issue that you should give your customers more time. We are paying quite a bit of money for a meal and I do not appreciate being rushed out and told that I have five minutes to eat dessert. The waitress was argumentative, instead of apologetic. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant. We prefer a more leisurely experience, not a time limit. No thanks!
Absolutely fantastic service! Food was amazing! We will definitely be back!
We went to Semolina for our anniversary/new year’s eve dinner. the experience from beginning to end was as if we were the only customers in the restaurant. the service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. I can not wait to return.
Semolina was a great place to have our New Year's Eve dinner!
Our server, Karen, was awesome... like seriously awesome -- I usually don't remember servers names but I still remember hers.
As for food. We ordered 3 apps -- burrata, octopus and beef tartare. The octopus was perfectly cooked and had a great char on the outside, I highly recommend it. The beef tartare was very good, as was the burrata, both were solid options.
For entrees we split 3 -- the pork chop, pappardelle bolognese and the organic chicken. The pork chop was OUT OF THIS WORLD good, and it makes a lot of sense now why my co-worker recommended it to me. You MUST get the pork chop, even if you're like me and you "would never really order that at a restaurant." The bolognese was okay, I didn't find a ton of flavor in the bolognese sauce but the pasta was nice and fresh. I generally find bolognese to be heavy and this one was very light. The organic chicken was a bit disappointing, it was pretty dry -- this may have been because we asked for it without any tomato due to an allergy, but not sure -- it seemed overcooked to me. The creamed spinach that it came with (modification because of the tomato allergy) was phenomenal.
We ended with an order of their zeppolis which were also amazing. I don't usually do dessert, but I gladly ate a few of those -- it came with a vanilla drizzle and some type of orange sauce/slush that was on the plate as well.
The bill for 3 was $180 with tip -- a little pricey but it was for a special occasion.
BYOB as well, which helps keep the price down.
I will definitely be back for the pork chop and the octopus and to try some of the other items that looked good on the menu.
Could not have been more perfect on New Year's eve. The food was fantastic, the service excellent and we dined finely. Don't miss the caramel pudding dessert.
Amazing food and great service every time
Absolutely the best pasta anywhere outside of our own pasta maker and kitchen. Love this place. Will be back really soon. Highly recommend the octopus appetizer and all of the pasta dishes. And the Zeppolis dessert is hands down to die for!
Our go to place for amazing food at an affordable price point. A1 service with a frequently changing menu to keep us coming back...OFTEN.
We have had dinner at Semolina many times each visit was a good experience. The menu is varied each time we had dinner at Semolina. The service and food is excellent. I would and have recommended Semolina to anyone looking for a good meal in the area. Parking is easy and the restaurant is great.
Food and service is consistently good
Second visit to the restaurant. Per my request, was given a table away from the front door. Great service with a small but creative menu. All diners enjoyed the meal. Will be back for more.
A tiny bit pricy but everything else was outstanding. This was one of the best meals in a long while
Great all around. Great service, phenomenal food. Will definitely be back soon.
THE ONLY DRAW BACK WAS WE FELT RUSHED TO LEAVE TOWRDS THE END OF THE MEAL.
OTHER THAN THAT DEFINITELY WILL BE GOING BACK
I liked it ok. The food was ok. The service was ok.
The food is delicious, the service is wonderful, and thanks to BYOB the prices are that much more reasonable. The only downside to Semolina is it can be difficult to get a reservation unless you do it well in advance.
Pasta was great, fish was dry. For the price it just wasn’t a wow experience. The seasonal theme can be limiting. Mushrooms and kale were abundant on the early winter menu but artichokes, root vegetables noticeably absent. Nothing special about the place. Linguini and clams and cavatelli and broccoli aren’t my idea of fine dining. Won’t be back.
Semolina is the best thing to happen to Red Bank in a long time.
The food is always wonderful. The staff actually make the place!
Food and service were excellent! Always something new and unique to try.
Excellent pasta and pork chop. I have recommended this to many people already.
My husband and I have been here a few times and have continued to enjoy our experience. The servers are all experts as are the chefs. I was put off by the hostess who did not greet us well while my husband was finding a place to park. It does get crowded in Red Bank. She gave me a disapproving look and would not seat the three of us without my husband present. She was my first impression and that irritated me to start. When we did get seated the server was so sweet and welcoming it erased the initial damage the hostess made. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would go back. I suggest the owner train this your lady on how to greet customers and be nice.
Had an event at Bow Tie Cinema just down the street and thought we'd try Semolina after reading all the positive posts. Very glad we did! The food was excellent and the service was timely. Would go back in a heart beat.
