Decent food. Decor is OK about what I’d expect. Really noisy especially by the bar. Back room often smells a bit strange. Best spot to sit is outside in the back. Service can be sluggish depending on who serves you. I go fairly often and it’s consistently as I’ve described.
I was the only one who order shrimp tacos, and unfortunately, I was the only one with an upset stomach after. I am assuming the seafood must not have been as fresh as the steak!
However, the margarita pitcher was worth its price!
Neighborhood gem. Had a good time, but waiter forgot about us. Would have had more drinks but he never came back.
Nice Place been there many times, we have a place around the corner, can get noisy but that's New York for ya !
Used to be much better, and the chicken was dry.
Ratings on Open Table did not match our experience. Tables were dirty, silverware sticky, and food tasted like it was not fresh. Only exception was the guacamole, this was good.
Selena Rosa is known for fajita night on Mondys. My family and I were there this past Mondy and ordered guacamole for the table and 4 fajitas. 3 Steak and 1 Chicken; nothing special nothing extra and it took over an hour to have our main course served. People arrived after us, ordered, ate their dinner paid their bill and we were still waiting on our fajitas. No explanation, no aplogy. Steak was truly tasteless, not sure what kind of meat they use but we will NOT be back.
Waited for 45 minutes for our table after being told “5 more minutes” over and over again. Ended up leaving.
I had 1:15 reservations for Cinco de Mayo. We got there at 1:10 and were told to wait in the bar for a few minutes. After 20 minutes we asked how much longer and were told just a few more minutes. After an additional 20 minutes we asked again and were told 15 more minutes. After an hour I went up and was told at least 20 minutes or we could squeeze 7 people into a tiny table. I went up to the owner and he sat us at the tiny table and added chairs. The food was awful and we weren’t brought plates or water and had to ask for menus. I understand it was Cinco de Mayo, but that’s why we made a reservation. At the end of it, they didn’t check me in to Open Table so I received a “sorry we missed you” email.
Horrible service. We had to cancel our order and leave because it took too long.
The overall aesthetic of Selena Rosa is authentic Mexican but the food it is just average. In addition you will leave there smelling like the kitchen.
Have been to Selena Rosa plenty of times and always leave satisfied. Some top picks are Quesadillas, Tacos, Fajitas, Elotes and of course their Margaritas.
Really good vegetarian options. We were able to get a reservation last minute.
Overall, I had a good experience at Selena Rosa. The restaurant is lacking in service- while the waitress was attentive once we were seated, the food took forever to come out. Also, when it did come out, one of the meals for a member of our party was cold and needed to be warmed back up. The coordination/planning just did not seem to be in sync. The restaurant was busy, but nothing too crazy also nothing that we got should have taken that long to cook. That being said, the food was good and the ambiance was nice so I would go back, but maybe not during peak hours with a group that is on the larger size.
Overall OK. Decent food. Margarita’s are ok. Value for what you get is solid. Very noisy and hard to hear especially if you’re seated near the bar. Service is sluggish sometimes but not always. I keep going back . . . That’s a good sign.
We had Sunday brunch at Selena Rosa. The choices were varied and interesting. Service was prompt and friendly. Everything was delicious. We plan on returning.
We are always given the VIP treatment at Selena Rosa. Love this restaurant for so many reasons, but the food is fabulous, the service is stellar, and we always leave with that "can't wait to go back" feeling.
The service is variable - I have been here many times and it varies from accurate and attentive to inaccurate, slow and inattentive.
This visit was weak on the service component, water was never refilled, drinks came late, and packed food omitted one dish.
I like this restaurant and will go back because on the balance it has been excellent
Mahi Mahi and the tequila marinated shrimp are out of this world--it's a must try.
This restaurant does not know what it is doing. The server did not listen to our requests and food
had to be sent back. In the meantime, one of us ate without the other -not such hot food I will say. I had to inquire of the manager what happened to the redone food as it took a long time to come back. This is not exactly what I would call a a nice dinner out together. Food mediocre and service poor.
Our favorite Mexican located on the upper East Side.
I recommend the happy hour specials and everything on the menu.
Horrid service. Sound level unbearable
To be honest, the food was just bland. My boyfriend ordered the chicken quesadilla, and I, the shrimp. Both were jus cheese, and the proteins. There was no seasoning.... nothing. The worst Mexican food I have had in the city.
When I noticed the quesadilla, just had shrimp and cheese... which is far different from the menu... I asked for salsa verde, for some type of freshness. The salsa verde was, also the worst, I personally, have had. There was no spice or really much flavor to it.
Overall, I would not go back.
Good food; attentive servers; had to wait over 30 mins past the appetizers being done, before the main course was served...
We were a big party of 11 and they were able to accommodate us. We got to sit in their dining room downstairs, the host and manager were very welcoming when we arrived with our parry. They made excellent recommendations on food and wine. The service absolutely complimented the food which made our evening together with our friends very memorable.
I made this reservation a few weeks ago, making sure they were available on Christmas Day. When we arrived, the place was closed. Door locked, chairs up on tables, etc. Yet Open Table sent me a reminder half an hour before my reservation.
Luckily, there was a good French place open across the street. Very disappointed.
We loved it! Thanks so much for the wonderful margarita, fajitas, and the loveliest tres leches and flan we have had in a while!
Small Cozy place with a chill vibe. they do have a bar but we did not sit and drink. the food was delicious though, an you get quit the bang for your buck.
We love this place, but you cannot sit in the front room. So noisy, you can't hear yourself think. BUt, the back room and garden are lovely.
Good Mexican style fair served in a lively atmosphere with good
Margarita was not good at all, I couldn't not finish the drink. We ordered a Mule (ade with rim) then was told that they ran out of Ginger Beer, so no mule. The octopus tacos were way too spicy, the menu did say spicy but this was unbearable to enjoy the flavor, the octopus however was very tender. Chicken in enchiladas was dry and chicken tortilla soup was subpar. Ambiance? We had to use our cell phones to read the menu for it was way too dark to see.
However, the waiter was nice, polite and attentive, which is why I would rate this restaurant a 3.
I would not recommend this restaurant.
Food was bland and my fajita skillet was burning the inside of the oven mit on the handle so the entire place smelled of burning plastic not to mention the rice with my boyfriends enchilada came and tasted of Palmolive
Have had delivery many time and it’s consistently good. Eat in however was less impressive, Margaritas were terrible. Poorly mixed unless you want to get drunk on 2 drinks. Good traditional Tex-Mex but may want to stick to delivery.
Literally the worst dining experience ever. The waitstaff left us unattended, the guacamole was served without chips, the rice tasted like soap, the tacos had hair in them, and some of the orders came out wrong... just to name a few. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
The food was excellent but the ambiance could have been better if the restaurant weren't open to the street where there was some road works going on. Some of our guests had never eaten Mexican food before & it was a good first introduction to the cuisine, which they liked.
The only problem is that i booked through open table and when i went there they couldnt find my booking , so i blame open table not the restaurant .
The food is amazing everything is good and the prices were ok
I enjoyed all my meal & my drink was amazing !!!!
I need to come here for happy hour. Thank you for an amazing evening :)
Consistently good. Best frozen margaritas
