    Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions. Complementing the menu are wines from small producers, distinctive brews, and cocktails to suit the seasons. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard Foundation finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was also twice named a James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant (2024, 2025), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

    Impeccable food with friendly staff. We had a celiac and tree nut allergy which were both easily accommodated. Allergy safe dishes for each respective individual was communicated by every member of the staff. We always cherish our time at Selden and continue to think it is the best restaurant in Detroit!

    This restaurant never disappoints. It is the first reservation (and you need one) I make when I am heading to Detroit. The menu changes according to what's coming off the farms nearby. Last night three of us split 5 dishes plus a dessert, and each dish was outstanding. Selden Standard is worth a special trip to the city.

    The service and food were amazing! Went with my mom who is celiac and also has a ton of other food allergies. They pre-marked the menu with items she could eat and also were able to accommodate her on other dishes. Such an enjoyable, safe dining experience and so appreciative of all they did to accommodate!

    I love Selden Standard and have been going since it opened. The food is consistently good and well above the average. I like that I can rely on the food to be creative and fresh with a rotating interesting menu. The noise level is moderate on the patio which I appreciate, not overwhelmingly loud outside. I was so pleased they updated and tidied the bathroom. My one disappointment was the landscaping around the building and lot, and on the patio. Multi year weed trees, neglected overgrown foliage. Just needs a trim basically. It feels less of a curated relaxing experience when everything isn't at least neat and tidy.

    Not a premium meal for a premium price. The biggest problem was the service, which spoiled the experience and food.

    This was a great experience. There was a bit of over-seasoning on the mushrooms and the beets that overshadowed the flavors on those dishes but the drinks were great the pea salad was fantastic and the shrimp and grits perfect!

    Still my favourite dining experience in Detroit after many years of dining here when I’m in town. Perfect cocktails, incredible vegetable dishes, some of the best pasta I’ve ever had, and a great vibe overall. Feels casual but behind the scenes, they have the attention to detail you’d expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Spectacular service with excellent timing. Your glass will never be empty and the plates come out one after another. Looking forward to my next visit.

    Liana, our server, was outstanding! The food was incredibly delicious and lots of vegetable forward items. Highly recommended!

    Doorman was rude to us so it set the mood for the evening. Server seemed more interested know in turning over the table. Food was pedestrian and overpriced. Not sure why this place is so highly rated. After dinner went to Mad Nice and had much better cocktails and nicer staff.
