Amazing anniversary meal at Sel! We were greeted with champagne, ordered an incredible Burgundy, then had the wonderful Chef's Tasting Menu: Highlights were the otherworldly beef tournedo with chicken liver madeira sauce, then Cara had the filet, Mike had the elk loin—each incredibly rich and flavorful. Our server, Gilbert, was attentive, entertaining, and insightful and we couldn't have asked for a more delightful meal. The interior where we sat was comfortable and beautifully decorated, and while the meal was expensive, we hugely enjoyed every bite of it!

This place is more than an amazing a meal—it is an experience. Forget dinner and a movie, tasting the food can be the entertainment. Amazing flavors and balance in the chef’s tasting. I left feeling perfectly nourished without feeling overly full. The soups! The sauces! The marzipan dessert! It was a joy for my taste buds. And the ambiance was so very classy.

Over-hyped “Old Town” Restaurant. Not a great experience for my boyfriends Birthday and we had reservations weeks in-advance. The One Bonus: Bartender Sam was friendly and accommodating. We waited two hours for our cold-served entrée. This is one of my only negative reviews in years. We dine-out several times a week at different types, price points, and locations. Thankfully, we received a $31.00 discount. Bill total after discount: $188.28.

We have been there several times and every time, the food and service are superb. Another bonus: their outdoor patio dining area is on the east side of the restaurant so cool and shady before sunset. Stroll around the numerous art galleries nearby before and after dinner.

Beautiful experience, especially for an anniversary! Very accommodating and the service was stellar. Will definitely come back again with friends to have a fun dining, chef tasting experience. The outdoor seating was very cozy and highly recommend.

Good food but a bad experience. first the hostess told us outside seating was full, so we HAD to be inside. For the next hour and a half we looked through the windows at a half full patio. Then we were ignored. I had to get up and go to the bar to order a drink after 10 minutes. Third, the waiter pushed us to believe that the tasting menu was our only option; they went so far as to not give us the a la carte menu; when we continued to push back he finally admitted that we could order a la carte if we wished and showed us the menu which, of course, had existed all along. And finally - martinis cost $24! That's not on the menu; you only find that out at the end. You only pay $20 at the iconic Wolensky Grill in Manhattan! Much better to go to Lon's, Elements, Cafe Monarch, Fat Ox, etc, etc, all of which are not cheap but much better values and experiences.

My wife and I come here every few months. The food is delicious and the menu changes with the season. The chef tasting menu is our favorite. Along with the brazed short rib steam buns.

It may have been an off night for the restaurant but based on some reviews I’m seeing that it’s not the first off-night. It was an enduring meal as all the food was just salt with a flavor of beef or something else. We let the server know too. As for wine. The server recommended a $20 wine and said it was a bottle everyone should collect. My second glass of wine had cork debris in it. So all in all I didn’t get to have wine because it was disappointing throughout and each glass was sent back. The restaurant should be called salt or shell. My wife and I had so many pieces of oyster shell in our bites that I made a pile and took a photo of it. They also forgot the birthday dessert until I reminded them, so they brought out another dessert. We paid and left to buy big bottles of water. I definitely wish I could get a refund. As the server said they don’t want us to pay for anything we didn’t like as she didn’t charge us for the wine. I wanted to say I didn’t like any of the meal except the lemon sorbet and dessert, so we’ll pay for those. With the way it’s advertised and for the price of the course meal it felt very fraudulent.

Sel is a not-so-hidden gem with absolutely spectacular service, lovely ambiance, and artfully designed food with fantastic flavor combinations. This meal made my entire trip to Scottsdale and I can’t wait to dine here again when I return. The chef’s tasting menu is a must-try — 10/10!
