Love love love this restaurant- we eat here every time we are in town - delicious tasting menu excellent personal service good value. Relaxed atmosphere
The food was outstanding and our server Alex made our experience perfect!
I have been to Sel many times. The staff are always accommodating. The food spectacular!
Reservations were made a week in advance. Showed up in time only to be told that we had to wait for 10 minutes. 30 minutes later we were finally seated. The bar area is so close to the dining room tables and they had customers that were extremely loud. The wait times between courses were unreasonably long, I had to tell the waitress to please speed things up. The waitress, however, was friendly as well as the host. Very clean restrooms.
Tasting menu was perfect. Honestly, this place deserves a Michelin star.
Sel is our most favorite restaurant ever. Chef Branden creates flavors that take dining to a whole new level. Presentation of every course was so beautiful. And then there’s the service- every staff member from hostess to those bussing tables are so well trained. Everyone smiles, engages in conversation and prioritizes each diner’s experience. Try Sel- you’ll love it.
We enjoyed a beautiful tasting menu! The vichyssoise was spot on and so refreshing! The heirloom and beet salad was colorful and delicious! The lamb dumplings were served with spicy pickles, an unusual and satisfying surprise! Our main courses were halibut in a coconut, milk, corn sauce and morel, mushroom pasta that was decadent!
We started with a drink at the bar. The bartender knows her stuff and mixed beautiful, inventive concoctions.
Next we moved to the outside patio. Although the temp outside was 96, it was a beautiful area and very pleasant to take in people watching, yet still enjoy a private meal.
I very much recommend Sel to foodies that love unique, delicious food in an ambient atmosphere!
Great food and service. I would definitely recommend Sel.
The food and service was amazing. It was restaurant week which we didn’t know before arriving, and that usually means chaotic service and not so good food. We were pleasantly surprised that everything was excellent. We were here 5 years ago and the standards are still stellar! Looking forward to dining again on my next trip to Scottsdale.
Sel continues to be one of, if not the top restaurant in Scottsdale. Outstanding.
Inventive highest quality food with wonderful flavors beautifully presented and thoughtfully served
My server, Moses was fabulous. One of the best servers I have had in a long time.
He is tied for best server in the Valley with Frank at Ocean Prime. Leaving for the summer but will make it one of my first stops when I return in September.
Restaurant week with this upscale restaurant. Super high quality. Great to go on. Thursday night because surrounding art galleries are open at night. Super cute neighborhood.
The food was incredible. The first and second courses had well balanced ingredients and were delicious. I wish I had more of them. Fortunately, the main course did not disappoint. This meal was definitely designed and prepared by a chef passionate about delivering a good food experience. Cheers to the chef, to May and their awesome staff!
Creative menu, combined with very efficient and attentive service in a beautiful setting. Can't be beat!
Incredible as always. Restuarant week so 3 courses vs 5. All were fresh and surprising. Pea vichyssoise was so creamy and refreshing. Beet and heirloom tomato salad was delicious and palate cleansing. Rose wine pairing spot on. Date had filet entree. Amazing! Bourdelaise almost too good to swallow. Tender beef. I had halibut with Thai basil and miso/fresh corn broth. One of the best entree’s! Tender halibut with delicious broth and surprising pinot noir made perfect pairing. Another memorable meal- Thank you Chef Branden!!
My wife and I went to this new restaurant to celebrity my birthday. We had the specials and were very impresed with the quality of the food and presentation. The overall experience was excellent and we will be back with some of our foodie friends.
Fabulous food with the freshest ingredients. The pea vichyssoise is to die for and the Thai basil crusted halibut is wonderful in the miso curry sauce. Service is excellent maybe a tiny rushed bit after advising the server this was easily corrected. Wine pairing was great with some unique Pinot Noir rose. Definitely to be recommended. We will return soon!
This restaurant performs at its best to ensure a perfect evening. It was a beautiful experience and worth revisiting!
I reserved an outdoor seating area, however, upon arrival the outdoor table was not available and I was forced to eat inside, which is not what I wanted to do. The menus was extremely limited to one 3 course dinner choice with 3 main course options. Substitutions were not permitted. I was very disappointed. The restaurant went downhill from my previous experience. Sad.
Everything was perfect, the food, service and ambiance. Cannot wait to.go back sgain.
We have dined there several times but this time we went for Restaurant Week. The menu was a great value and really excellent food. I don't recall our server's name. She was a dark haired woman who was fantastic. I feel badly I don't recall her name but she really enhanced our dining experience.
Ambiance is a delight. Food was fantastic (the thai basil crusted halibut was an extraordinary dish - I wish I could replicate that twice a week!) and our server was amazing. One minor irritating thing - we did the wine pairing, which was per person more expensive than the restaurant week menu, and the pours of wine were pretty small. The first (of three) pours was so small, we thought it was just a tasting first, but then we realized that was it - maybe a sip or two. And the second and third glasses were probably 3 ounces or 4. I'd hope Sel would either consider a more generous pour or a lower price - and transparency about the option would be helpful too - if this is a wine tasting with 2 oz each, just say so). But all over, a 5 star place and we'll be back. Wonderful to see so many people out and enjoying themselves too.
Best meal I’ve ever had!
We went for Restaurant Week, and the staff was amazing. So helpful and accommodating. The food was fun and creative, but my entree was a filet, ordered medium rare, and turned out to be chewy. My guest had the halibut which was wonderful and all the accompaniments were delicious. Lamb meatballs for an appetizer, yummy and nice wine list enjoyed a nice pinot. I will definitely return the waiter insisted on giving us a dessert, and it was outstanding.
Unique flavors added to dishes that make them memorable.
great ambiance. attentive service without stuffiness. inventive, excellent cuisine
Terrible restaurant week experience: Had been looking forward to trying SEL since I moved to Scottsdale. The outdoor patio always looks charming . I went with my two adult nieces and we did the three course menu, ordered a bottle of wine and cocktails. It was terrible from start to finish. After we were sat no one came to our table for 20 minutes....I went up to the hostess stand and asked for someone to please come to out table. A few minutes later the hostess came over to take our drink order...she turned to be a co owner. The rose wine was brought over and he then said...this should be fine on the table unless you really want an ice bucket? Ummm...yes we would like one. This seemed like pure laziness on his part. then no one came and took our order ....nothing. Back to hostess stand. apologies. Order taken. the vegetarian option was very good, my halibut was grossly overcooked and my nieces filet and sides were cold. Beets in the salad were not cooked enough and had to be cut with a sharp knife. At that point we just wanted to leave. We paid the $350 bill and left. I did not want to complain or send any food back because our evening was being ruined and I wanted to try and salvage it. After returning home I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. It was the hostess! She was very polite and remembered us. Very apologetic and said they were adjusting to the price fix menu. She offered to send me a gift certificate for the future. Guess what ? She never sent it! Unbelievable. cannot recommend.
One of my favorite restaurants in town. Romantic ambiance and amazing food always
The food was amazing! So many delicious flavors in each and every bite ! The staff was so awesome and very attentive. Very polite and so kind. I will definitely be going back !
Last night, for opening night of Arizona Restaurant Week, I enjoyed a fabulous flavor-packed dinner at one of the top restaurants in Scottsdale. Sel Scottsdale.
As always, I love the creativity, skilled technique, clever use of fresh local ingredients, sublime plating and presentation, super attentive service from all, and the changing menu of this innovative small family owned business that continues to win accolades and rave reviews from foodies locally and around the world.
Sel Scottsdale is run and operated by the talented and gracious owners Chef Branden Levine and his beautiful wife May. Thank you both for an incredible meal and food experience.
I chose Sel as my foodie destination for the first night of Arizona Restaurant Week as I knew they would set the bar high, and believe me, they did. I was not disappointed.
I enjoyed their featured ARW Menu and added some supplemental items which were incredible and really helped complete the dining experience.
For my meal, I enjoyed the Wild Ramp & Sweet Pea Vichyssoise to start, followed by an Heirloom Tomato and Roasted Beet Salad with Crow's Dairy Goat Feta Cheese, and my entree was Grilled Prime Filet Mignon with crunchy Romanesco, White Truffle and Black Garlic Lyonnaise Potatoes, Oyster Mushrooms with a Bordelaise Sauce, and finished my meal with a Flourless Chocolate Tiramisu dessert.
At the heart of Sel's unforgettable experience is the innovative food that changes with the season. Visit Sel and tell them Mike from ScottsdaleAZFoodies sent you!!
Over all very good. Only note that nobody gave us a wine list so we didn't order a bottle of wine. Our heirloom & roasted beet salad was missing the puffed forbidden rice but it still was delicious. Would have let the waiter know if we remembered that rice was suppose to be on the plate but other than that very good.
Wonderful food in a delightful location. Service was attentive and not over bearing. The food was great.
The restaurant is on a quiet street in the Art District of Old Scottsdale. I ordered from the chef's tasting menu and my husband and son ordered ala carte. We requested the bread and it and the butter were so good! Everything we ate was tasty and unique. The guys enjoyed the steam buns and crab cakes, but, the favorite for both of them were the lamb dumplings with the spicy Persian pickles. They also ordered the white chocolate pine-nut prune bread pudding with the salted caramel gelato and it had to be the best bread pudding we have ever eaten! I especially loved the squash blossom with crab and corn stuffing. It was delicious!! The pork belly was full of flavor and the Halibut was cooked perfectly and was crispy on the skin and had a beautiful mizo curry sauce. We almost licked the bowl. The strawberry marzipan shortcake was unique and delicious, too. The service was attentive, but, not too. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to foodies, special dates, quiet dining, intimate dining and everyone who loves delicious food.
Three of us had the tasting menu and one ordered from the entree menu. We opted for the tasting without the wine pairing so we could choose our own wines. The tasting portions were just right so you did not get overfull before the main course. There was the tuna tartare, stuffed squash blossom, pork belly, the entree and then strawberry short cake for dessert. All of the items were beautifully presented and service was great. I had the halibut, and my husband had the fillet. Both were delicious. My favorites were the pork belly and the squash blossom each of which was a tasty surprise.
It is expensive with several drinks and wine for 4 it was $600.
This is one of my favorites spots in all of Scottsdale. The patio dining area is wonderful and they have misters or heaters for any season. The Chef's menu always has a variety of items to select from and all changes are happily accommodated. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive. Great place for a celebration or special occaison.
This place is very pricey. I could understand it if the food was over the top. But the food was very average. The New York steak was loaded in fat and I couldn't cut it with a steak knife, let alone it had very little flavor. The heirloom tomato and beet salad was completely uneventful. The atmosphere did not warrant the prices. If you want bread to start the meal that was an extra charge. So very disappointing since I read the previous reviews and I based my desire eat here after reading those reviews. No desire to ever go back.
Although expensive, the food and overall experience at Sel are incredible. The second best restaurant in the city in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine dining.
This was our first time at Sel, but we will be back. The food (tasting menu) was innovative and really tasty, and the super-friendly staff (including the chef) made us feel relaxed and welcome. We have been at high-end restaurants that made us feel very uncomfortable; this was the opposite experience.
The food was excellent. Nice variety and great service.
