The chicken with plum sauce yakitori tasted like a urinal smells. The pork belly came out and was actually beef. The ramen was ok. The sushi was structurally unstable (the rice wasn't sticky enough). The fried ice cream was a bit freezer burnt but still tasty. All-in-all there are better options for your sushi dollar in Memphis.
The food here was great. There was a wide variety of interesting menu options, the pieces we ordered had well-executed preparation and presentation, and everything was fresh and delicious tasting.
The service, on the other hand, wasn't just "not good", it was plain old bad. There were only two waitresses to seat customers, wait on tables, run the bar, and handle to-go orders. The wait times for food were short because the chefs could flat push orders out, but the wait for a refill or to get your check after finishing were astonishingly bad. Also, our waitress was astonishingly rude and ignored us completely once our food came. We had to get the attention of the other waitress to get our check over thirty minutes after we were clearly finished.
It has been some time since we had an actual "reserved" sign on our table and it made us feel special when we arrived. The Sushi chefs were quite entertaining, and we wished we had chose to sit at the bar instead of a booth. The menu color, a blue, made it very difficult to read in the dark room. The service was very good. I wish I could say this was the best sushi we found in the Memphis area but it was just average in taste and presentation. Our dinner included a pre-dinner cocktail, Miso soup, seaweed salad, green tea and many different sushi rolls with tips ran $150.00. This is an average we expect to pay at any great sushi restaurant. Overall it was a good experience.
Server was very friendly and accomadated the high demands of my 2 year old! We had a large group for my birthday and I felt that the server took very good care of us. The hot food from the kitchen took a little longer than we would have liked. She entered our sushi order first thing so it came quickly (she explained if she waited to put the sushi order in it may take a long time as it was around 7pm on a Satuday). Aside from the whole table not being able to eat at the same time everything was fine. Sushi was delicious!
