This was one of my favorite Sushi Restaurants. I am not impressive with the food or quality. I now know why OYA didn't last and I have a feeling this one might not either. Too expensive for what you receive.
The sushi rolls are awesome, giving me a really special taste. The waiters and waitress are all friendly and responsive. Good experience.
Always excellent food, and excellent service. A bit on the energetic side weekend evenings!
The waitress was amazing and overheard me say it was my boyfriend's birthday and brought a surprise cake. Excellent cocktails and food. Would definitely come back!
We frequently eat at Sei before Shakespeare Theatre plays, and always enjoy it. But we have to remember that cooked foods take time, given their limited burners, so service can be slow.
Never noticed this place. Incredibly fresh sushi and delicious beer and sake. Friendly staff. Prices were not outrageous considering the rent they probably have to pay.
Great location...perfect venue for pre-socializing before events at Verizon Center.
Great birthday lunch! Billy & his team were amazing and made my day extra special!
Excellent service, excellent food. The checkout process with Apple pay and open tempo app was super convenient.
While the sushi is good, anyone that enjoys the simplicity of simple flavors and clean, fresh fish may not enjoy anything outside of the sashimi and plain nigiri. I found the flavors/sauces in rolls and special Nigiri to detract from the star of the sushi, the fish and rice. For those trying sushi for first time or not lovers of sushi, this is probably a good place. Was just disappointed in quality of the rolls and nigiri slices and rice...the art was completely missed in favor of sauces and toppings.
The staff was really helpful when we couldn’t decide what to order. The sushi rolls are out of this world! I highly recommend the fish and chips roll, it takes a British staple and elevates it to a new level. For someone that’s new to dc and needs a nice spot to meet with friends or family this place is for you.
Greats restaurant but stick to the sushi. Appetizers are ok, sushi is great.
Excellent as always with a delightful wait staff & some of the best sushi in the city!
Service was great. Prices were very friendly
This was such a treat! We tried the fish and chips roll after the server recommended it (otherwise I would've skipped it). It was amazing! All our other rolls and sashimi were excellent, so fresh and very creative. So glad we happened upon this gem!
Oh boy! My new favorite is Sei's salmon Poke. On previous visits Sei didn't fill up until 7:00. This time it was slammed when we arrived a little before 6:00. So I had to bellow sweet nothings to my beloved.
Usually dishes come out hot-first then the cold. This time they hit the table in a rush, so the hots cooled before we could eat them. I ascribe this to being slammed. Or maybe the wanted to turn the table sooner.
Just great food, great menu, and great service. One of our favorites. A hidden gem downtown.
Great food and service but the sushi had very little fish and a lot of rice. Other food items (sliders and tacos) were more substantial. Would go back but skip the sushi as it is not worth it.
First time at SEI and it didn’t disappoint!! Everything was ON POINT!! We will definitely return!!
SEI always has the right atmosphere and great food. I like that the menu is very unique for Asian good. The service is excellent! One of our favorite DC restaurants.
Food and service at this modern Asian restaurant are great. Love the wasabi guacamole appetizer and the caramelized sea bass. Good selection of sushi and sashimi. Ask to sit at one of Alexi’s tables. He is an excellent server, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Very convenient to Shakespeare and Wooly Mamoth theaters.
SEI bills itself as Asian fusion cuisine. It is primarily a Japanese style restaurant with an bit of a twist on most dishes. The spicy salmon roll for example includes cilantro as well as traditional wasabi and cucumber. The spicy snapper included a bit of sweetness from honey. SEI has two kitchens, one for sushi and a second for other dishes. Most dishes are small, more like an appetizer than a meal. Our server recommended two per person which seemed about right. Think something like Japanese Tapas. The fish was all very fresh and delicious. An order of traditional uni nigiri was particularly fresh and flavorful. The cooked dishes were equally good. We ordered a crispy duck leg with fried kale and a Chilean sea bass with bok choy and fish sauce. Both were very good. The atmosphere is modern but very comfortable and quieter than most restaurants in this part of DC.
I love this restaurant! The food is delicious and there is so much to choose from. The ambiance is very soothing and the service impeccable. Unfortunately we always seem to go before a play at the Shakespeare Theatre and don't have as much time as I'd like to explore the menu and have dessert.
Awesome service and great food. Went for bday dinner and they delivered a delicious desert and shot of the bday girl.
What an outstanding evening. The entire staff was attentive, friendly and welcomed our party like family. The food kept coming - fast, hot and furiously. Did I mention it was inventive and delicious. Each morsel was gobbled up. This was the perfect place to celebrate my daughter’s 21st. She and her hip friends where in their element while my wife and I felt right at home in this chic, upscale restaurant. I highly recommend it.
Great ambiance and delicious food. Staff is very friendly and professional.
Great food in shareable plates, especially crispy brussel sprouts, charred octopus, edamame, but very noisy if the restaurant is full.
Fantastic sushi. Creative choices. Beef tartare nigiri and fish and chips roll a must.
Everything about this place was lovely. I would definitely go back.
The sushi here is extremely well done and more creative than other spots in DC. The signature cocktails are tasty.
Great experience definitely will come back
I went with a friend for Restaurant Week, and we ordered from the brunch menu. It was $22 for the food and an additional $10 for bottomless mimosas (plus taxes & tip), which was a fantastic deal! We got there at 2:30, and even though brunch ended at 3:00, they continued to fill our mimosas until we left. Our favorite dishes were the crispy brussel sprouts, the bibimbap bowl, and the mochi ice cream. We weren't blown away by every single dish, but it was all VERY good, and the service was FANTASTIC. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and friendly. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and we plan to go back for happy hour!
Sei is consistently good and high quality. Servicer was perfect. May be a little loud for some at brunch but my wife and i love the energy/vibe.
Visiting DC for work. Found SEI, turned out to be the best meal of the trip. Simply delicious
Service was its usual excellent, and the Sushi continues to be the best in town. Compliments all around.
Wonderful service and great food!
Very delicious and unique flavor. Dishes are beautifully decorated. Good volume.
The orange pudding was the BEST.
I dine at this restaurant often. However, it was extremely loud last Friday, 1/26.
Best sushi in The entire DMV area!!!! I visit here weekly
Good Restaurant Week experience. Delicious cocktail and food. Ambience was quiet at first because we were there early, then picked up as we were wrapping up. Will definitely go back to try other menu options especially sushi. Very convenient to Capital One Arena.
