Food and service was great. No complaints. It was a bit noisy but it was also a Friday evening. Highly recommend.
I would love to love this place- I did like the food but the deafening noise precluded any conversation and we left early to escape the din. And we even went early to try to avoid this problem.
Maybe an option for lunch? or if you wear earplugs....
Spent 225$ on cheap quality food, their chefs chocolate dessert was a joke, definitely not worth the money.
Exceptional place to eat love the service and food
Had to wait 30 minutes for our table despite having made a reservation a week in advance, but everything was amazing. The food was incredible, service was great, too 3 sushi in DC metro area.
Food was good. Lots of vegetables with plenty of taste
I took an out of town guest and he gave the ultimate compliment- he plans to go back while he is here. We had 2 different sushi rolls, kale salad, sea bass, and scallops and enjoyed all. The salad was not as good as usual, but still good since i’m Not crazy about kale.
Fantastic food as always and stellar service. We spent maybe $60 for a meal so large we didn't need to eat the rest of the day and bottomless brunch that was constantly refilled with no need to flag a server.
Great food and service! Will go again!
Our server was amazing. It was our first time there, but we will definitely be coming back because of her. She was very welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious.
It was great and we were celebrating a friend birthday and they brought her a complimentary dessert and shooter for all of us. Thank you!
Staff is very friendly, food is amazing!!! Definitely recommend!
Fantastic brunch! Great sushi!
Great service with a spectacular brunch for RAMW
Nice atmosphere, delicious food!
Enjoyed the fish and chips roll and the shrimp tacos
Ok. It is in fortunate one the best features of a restaurant it’s not it’s food
Absolutely wonderful! I rarely go back multiple times to a restaurant in DC unless it is 100% worth it. The staff at SEI is by far the friendliest and most attentive of any restaurant I've been to in the 7 years Ive lived in DC. In addition their restaurant week menu and bottomless mimosas/bloody mary deal is the best in DC. Definitely one of my favorites!
Attended during winter 2019 restaurant week. For a place that’s highly reviewed and in the center if a very busy neighborhood, you’d think the service would be top notch. Not only did we need to wait 20 mins to be seated, once we were no one came over to greet us and take our order. I had to stop a waiter that walked by just for us to be served. Since it was a limited, multi-course menu, we put everything in at once. Our first course took almost 35 mins to come out! Not a single manager came over to apologize nor, did we ever meet our actual waiter. Just had a rotation of people we had to keep flagging down ourselves to check on food and order more drinks. The food was great but, the rest of the surrounding experience would make me never dine here again.
Novel sushi, all of which was quite good. The fish and chips roll was tasty, but next time I’d probably go for one of they’re more adventurous rolls or stuck with the nigiri (which was very nice). The cocktails were also really good and quite interesting.
Came here for restaurant week. Very disappointed. Ordered sake, and the cup it came with was dirty, got a replacement that was even dirtier than the last. Then my GF found a bone in her salmon sushi... Pretty sure sushi is not supposed to have bones. Then to top it off a waiter stepped on my jacket (hanging from the chair) and broke my keychain. The food overall was lack luster. I wish I could give 0/5.
Asian fusion restaurant with innovative and tasty dishes. However, the table are too close and the restaurant can be quite noisy.
Great food. Great service.
Came for restaurant week!! Great meal!!
Really nice. We went there for dinner on restaurant week. Portions were well sized (unlike other skimpy, pricey restaurants) and delicious, combining Japanese food with a tiny bit of Mexican food (e.g., guasave guacamole, tuna (Japanese style) tacos). We didn’t like the chocolate pancakes for dessert but the bread pudding was scrumptious! Quiet, elegant and modern. Really nice :)
Beautiful chic setting for creative Asian small plates, like Asian tacos and Kobe beef sliders. Food was delicious and service was excellent.
The bento boxes are a great value , lots of food for a good price. Creative and tasty drinks. Waiter was attentive and friendly.
Very attentive and friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and great food.
Love this place!
SEI is such a hidden gem. The bibimbap is delicious and well-priced - we've tried all three! Cocktails are great! Came here for a birthday and a date. Love the decor, and staff are helpful - waitress gave great menu recommendations, and they opened the door for us as we left. Really nice time! :)
A quick late dinner after a theater reception. Service was fast and the food was wonderful!
Been here before, and is always the same.. very good!
The food has been consistently good. The decor is modern with a well light but smooth dining experience
One of my favorite restaurants
As always the food was excellent as was the service. We only needed a small meal since we had come from a party, but there were plenty of options for light fare. I love going to SEI!
I like discover then this restaurant was for me a beautiful experience. But for some of my friend the choice if their order was difficult then they didn't really eat.i would like that next time the servers be more helpful like ask what you like rice or potatoes...meat or shrimp and give them some possibilities. But the rest was perfect!
One of my favorite restaurants in all of DC. I come here every time I’m in town. The fish and chips rolls are amazing. I sometimes find myself thinking about them during the week leading up to my arrival. If you love sushi, this is the place. I think the overall atmosphere is chic without trying too hard. Service is outstanding don’t. I always sit in Alexis’ station or at least ask for him if I’m seated elsewhere. It’s hard for me to come to DC and not dine here. I highly recommend.
Food and service are excellent, and priced very reasonably for what you get. While quieter than most restaurants in the area, still too noisy to have a real conversation with your companions.
Our waiter was good- ambience was really nice- food was sub par
The food was interesting and delicious. Kobe sliders very good and we also enjoyed the scallop roll. Very fresh.
Would definitely return
