Very good service. I loved the wasabi guacamole and the sushi was very good as well. Our server gave us great suggestions!
chef nori has many brillant idea of foods.it was very good experience!
For a college-age couple tight on money, we were pleasantly surprised at what $70 could get us for an anniversary dinner. After an appetizer and four incredible sushi rolls, we left full and happy! The eel/avocado/apple and the paella rolls are a MUST. We were wary of the wasabi guacamole appetizer, which came recommended from our very-attentive server, but were blown away after the first bite - another MUST HAVE! The interior is flawlessly decorated and the noise level was perfect. Definitely a great date-night choice!
Friends and I went to SEI for my daughters 16th birthday and we wanted something really chic, hip and vibrant and SEI was perfect. I will say it was fairly dark inside and if you sit close to the bar area it could be noisy but we had a wonderful night. Walter, our server was nothing short of phenomenal- making recommendations, checking in with us. He was truly excited when we wanted to try all different things. The cucumber cocktails were incredible. I am not a sushi eater (I dont' eat ANY fish)but SEI offered avant garde "sushi" such as curry chicken YUMMY and a surf and turf, scallop with habenaro and ramen, even a salmon with strawberry which I actually tried and it was great!! we had Korean tacos too! this would make a great date place.
Our food was all excellent. We had the special fish nigiri of the day, several rolls (the fish and chips roll was suprisingly good despite the description). The lobster tempura roll was tasty. Of the non-fish dishes, the korean tacos are delicious. The time I would get two orders of that. The Kobe sliders are tasty but a bit greasy. We also had the tater tots - not Japanese but my daughter raved about them. Portions are small, so be prepared. It is also very noisy. The two cocktails my husband had were both interesting - he particularly liked the hot chili drink.
The service was good. Everyone was very attentive. The sushi, however, was not that great. I've been to this restaurant twice before and had great sushi, but this time it was off. The flavors weren't there and the rolls were falling apart.
Excellent, innovative sushi and other Asian style dishes. Portions - particularly of "small" plates - are larger than you would expect. Will definitely return!
Excellent place for sushi - great and really exotic and fun selection of sushi - incredible pear sangria - service was excellent - love the ambience if you like the less light look but with groovy white chairs and tables. Very fun place and highly recommended - this was my 2nd time eating there and just as pleased as the first!
Food was tasty but it was SO LOUD that we could not enjoy our meal. I love a place with energy but this was way too much.
SEI delivers on its promise of creative sushi and drinks. The menu is pricy but the servings are satisfying. (The special rolls are a good value, offer unusual combinations and successful results.) You can select excellent cold sake without spending a lot of money as long as you choose for yourself. The setting is cool and modern, and the service is knowledgable and attentive. It's a fun place for pre- or post- theatre.
the pan seared duck, the freshwater eel and the fish and chips roll were favorites at our table. just a heads-up: kitchen closes pretty early on sundays (9p i think) so best to go early or pick a different day.
Delicious sushi. Great service. A new favorite "go to" place.
yummy unique sushi... always fun to try a new combination of food in a sushi roll!!
We enjoyed our meal and thought everything was well prepared. I am not the biggest shushi fan but likenitnat Sei. The small plates were also fun. The service wasnattentive without being intrusive. It's a great pre-movie or pre-theater spot.
Once again, SEI delivered. Unique menu items are always a hit. Great service and knowledge of the menu -- steering us away from a few "bland" items made for a much better experience.
We tried most of the recommended items: wasabi quacamole; fish and chips; sos. They deserve the hype. In fact, order extra fish and chips. It is that good. Our server was also fantastic and very knowledgeable. The only criticism, and it is slight, is that the night we went (Saturday at 7:00), the noise level was very, very high. I would not recommend this place to families with young children. But if you are in the mood for special event sushi - this is the place.
Great food and cocktails. Only drawback is the noise level.
Really great sushi. Annoying server. My lunch companion and I each ordered the bento box but had different main dishes. We both raved about the food. The waiter was another story. He was overly present but, at the same time, inattentive. He hovered, interrupted at inopportune times, but couldn't remember who ordered which dish or what we had asked him. If the server had been as good as the food, SEI would rate 5 stars. We will be back and hope for a repeat on the food but a better server.
Very innovative menu. Deliciously and artfully prepared - lots of surprises. And the interior design is gorgeous. Very hip, happening.
was not expecting to find a trendy setting for a saturday night dinner but it was more on the edge then most places appear in the Penn Quarter. White walls, contemporary art, low slung seating in the bar area. Expect it to be very loud, especially if there are tables of girls night out. The drinks were good, the sea bass sliders very good and despite what i read in the reviews our table liked the wasabi guacomole. We ordered a varied menu of sushi and sashimi, that was combined by the kitchen and it came out attractively presented on a long tray. The Tuna tartare was excellent. Waiter response was timely but not overbearing.
Amazing sushi, great drinks, and fun atmosphere.
Great fresh sushi and wonderful signature drinks. The wasabi guacamole is outstanding!!
The food and service were both excellent! Will definitely be back...be sure to try the seven pepper tots!
The menu was interesting and varied, offering a mix of Asian cuisine with a contemporary twist. The food was excellent. The service, likewise. The food came to the table very quicly--almost too quickly, but that would be great for diners planning entertainment after dinner. Our waiter was very attentive and walked us through unusual ingredients and preparation of different dishes, making very appropriate suggestions.
The waiter (white guy with a mustache) was extremely awesome, and the food was phenomenal when we sat down in the main dining room. The hostess was also wonderful!! :)
This is a great restaurant. The food concepts are interesting, adventurous and delicious. Service was top notch.
My absolute favorite sushi spot in the DMV area. The food and service is always fantastic.
Id' been hoping to order the sea bass sliders, but they're not on the lunch menu, which is apparently quite different from dinner. True, the lunch menu is pretty thin, but you can still do well here. The grilled salmon with spicy miso was aweseome, though the portion was small. I'd be shocked if it was 4 oz. It could be my fault, because I asked for them to leave off the potato-y side and add extra vegetables, so maybe I wouldn't have gotten hungry at 4:00 if I'd stuck with the potato-y thing. Overall, I like this place a lot.
Very lovely New York upscale setting, all white and glitter. Fun and different cocktails with an asian flair. Excellent and extremely fresh sushi attractively presented. Perfect spot for pre-theater dinner as it is next door to one and a block from another of the Shakespeare theaters. Rasonable valet parking for dinner and theater.
The food was excellent and the service superb.
The triple tuna sushi roll that all four of us had was quite good, as was the fish and chips roll. The wasabi guacamole, heavily pushed by the very nice waitress, was not, in my opinion, as good as advertised. Guacamole benefits from a little chile heat, but wasabi mustard is much too assertive for the delicate flavor of avocado. My entree, the "short ribs," (I put that in quotations because it tasted like a cheap cut of pot roast, and tough to boot), served over potatoes with baby carrots, was unacceptably bad. I should have stuck with the sushi, which, if no better than most of the good sushi in town, was at least decently done. The overall experience, for me at least, was not memorable enough for a second visit.
Very modern decor and creative dishes. Only negatives were 1) the air was smoky from the grill and 2) it was pretty noisy. The service was terrific.
Wonderful find in Penn Quarter. Very interesting menu and great food. Excellent prix fixe menu. Good choice for pre-theater dining.
I've been to Sei many times. The food and service are always wonderful.
Great Sushi. Drinks weren't that great. Waitress brought us a cup cake with a candle because of our anniversary and wrote congratulations on the plate, which I thought was a nice gesture. Overall Very Good and would recommend it to anyone.
very fun. wow super loud tho. def had to holler and repeat self across table.
food, service, ambiance were excellent.
If you have a friend that says they don't like sushi, take them here. Get fish and chips or shrimp tempura.
The food was delicious, creative and nicely presented. Our waiter very helpful. Unfortunately, between the rip-off valet parking ($20, twice the rate of anywhere else on the street) and the noise level, we probably won't return. Why invest in creating a serene and unusual environment only to have diners unable to carry on a conversation? We don't go out to work that hard.
Always a pleasure to drink in the ambience of Sei. The food selections are wonderful and the only close competition are their cocktails and wonderful wines.
The food was phenominal. Unfortunately the evening got off to a terrible start when the host was completely rude. While he may have thought he was trying to be funny, he failed at it miserable, and instead was insulting. I tried following up with management the following weekday and was wholly unimpressed by their acknowledgement of the issue and any attempt at trying in good faith get me and my guest to come back to give the restaurant another try.
