The Guacamole appetizer was fantastic. We found the sushi to be underwhelming. The Kimchi fried rice was delicious as was the carmelized Chilean Sea Bass. Also the tacos were good
Nice place but VERY loud. Had to yell to hear table conversation. I'd suggest waiting until later in the evening when the place starts to empty out a bit.
I went before the Pink concert with my friend. We shared the Spicy Crunchy Salmon roll, the Garlic Scallop roll, the Korean BBQ Kalbe tacos, the Shrimp tacos and the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. We started with just three items but they were so delicious we ordered more. 5 was too much but everything was very yummy.
Such a good brunch especially for serving asian fare, I really enjoyed the asian twists on brunch. My friends were impressed and loved the food, but our service was the most memorable part. Forgive me as I forget our server's name, but I remember her being from Mongolia. She was so authentic and truly cared about our experience. Great food, great service...kudos to a great establishment! Keep up the good work!
The sushi was extraordinary—very fresh and paired with interesting unexpected tastes in the special rolls we ordered. Service was very attentive but not obtrusive. It was more crowded than I expected for a 6:30 reservation but we were seated promptly. My only objection was noise. I had to strain to hear my daughter across the table. We could trade some comments but could not really have a conversation with the loud noise level. I would nevertheless return despite the noise. Though I might try for an off time when it might be less crowded and thus a little more quiet.
Alexis our waiter was awesome
Great Sushi Happy Hour-perfect little happy hour spot, great service and great prices.
Excellent Asian cuisine:fresh, tasty, innovative! We are going there on every opportunity...
Sushi and edamame were good. Crab eggs Benedict was just okay. Over cooked the eggs.
Excellent sushi, most employing subtle flavor combinations. Very attentive service even during busiest times.
Good food and ambiance. Unique sushi rolls.
Delicious sushi, unique selections. Great staff!
VERY friendly greeter and service. Didn't find the (Asian) food to "sing" and be all that tasty.
We love SEI - there was a new bartender who was still learning, but he was very friendly and will learn quickly I'm sure. The food was good as always, and we will return. There was a large, happy crowd in the back room of the bar, but it was good-natured fun.
Unbelievable tasty sushi, have to try the SOS roll, great and very quick service, can be a little loud - but would 100% recommend and go again.
Excellent food. Fresh. Well prepared. Nicely presented.
I'm a pretty regular patron of SEI and am continued to be impressed by the restaurant. It has a great ambiance and the sushi is always tasty with a good value for it.
The food and service were both outstanding. I highly recommend the rice bowls.
Very mod/hip fusion spot. We visited for spring break and since cherry blossoms were not "in bloom" the city was not packed!!! yay! Mid week dining reservations were very easy and we had to change our ETA 30 min (no problem). Quiet place but ONLY since it was mid week. I can tell this place is very popular during weekends so plan accordingly.
Restaurant is very modern/asian style with white square tables and white leather chairs. Their fun modern lighting accented the tables and the open concept sushi bar was inviting.
My family of 3 shared 2 rolls (Spicy Tuna and Crispy Shrimp). Presentation was outstanding but the quality of foods used was what our palettes left wanting more. Glad their entrees said "small plates" since we would not have ordered apps if entrees were large (and entree prices were parallel with the size portion (its a good thing). We ordered the short rib Bibimbap, Miso Glazed Baby Lamb Chops and Carmelized Chilean Sea Bass. We thoroughly enjoyed our flavorful meals and couldnt find room for dessert.
Amazing food and service as usual!!
The food is interesting and good, as is the decor. The service can be good, but servers do get overwhelmed when the restaurant is busy. The noise level is high and not helped by having lots of speakers that apparently cannot be turned down. If the noise level were lower, my review would be higher. But as someone who values conversation, I would eat here only in off-hours.
Family was in town and went there for a lite dinner
First time guest and it was an overall great experience!
I regret not knowing about SEI's amaze-balls cocktails earlier. The Momo and Shoga-tini are probably the best blended cocktails I've ever had in my life. They're dangerously tasty and don't skimp out on alcohol content, so... have fun with them. ;)
The Charred Octopus is heaven-sent. Unbelievably tender and paired with addictive chili sauce. Will definitely be back for this one.
The Salmon Poke roll was delish and the habanero ikura added really nice flavor, going way beyond your typical Alaskan roll. Worth getting again.
Unfortunately, the most popular Fish & Chips roll and the Caramelized Chilean Sea Bass were
both underwhelming, the first being a bit bland and the second being a bit dry. We also tried the flan dessert, the strong ginger flavor of which we thought clashed with the saccharine raspberry(?) sauce.
But the Miso Bread Pudding!!! Our server was tipped off about it being my birthday night (love you, best friend!) and brought us a warm bread pudding sitting atop a quaint little metal stand that even came with a birthday candle. Not only was it a sweet gesture and great customer service, it was absolutely delectable. The miso sauce was very subtle, not overpowering at all, and the moist bread budding was studded with orange peel(?) bits throughout, which makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Definitely need to go back for more.
Atmosphere-wise, it was really packed and noisy on a Sunday evening, due to many pre-concert customers, so it was hard to hold a conversation across the table, and the couple at our neighboring table finished their meal by sitting on each other and eating face (EW.), but despite this we had a good time and left with a pretty great impression of SEI. :)
Great service. Very friendly staff and excellent food! Thank you.
Loved it! They have the best bottomless drink deal in DC and it tastes like solid alcohol.
This was one of my favorite Sushi Restaurants. I am not impressive with the food or quality. I now know why OYA didn't last and I have a feeling this one might not either. Too expensive for what you receive.
The sushi rolls are awesome, giving me a really special taste. The waiters and waitress are all friendly and responsive. Good experience.
My husband and I decided to dine here directly after our wedding ceremony & reception! It was a magical experience with genuine staff, delicious food, and great cocktails! The staff treated us to champagne and dessert to congratulate us on our nuptials, and the couple next to us purchased our whole meal with out us knowing! We are grateful for the experience and can't wait to come back to try more of the menu offerings.
Amazing sushi, killer pork buns, great cocktails, awesome service.
Always excellent food, and excellent service. A bit on the energetic side weekend evenings!
The waitress was amazing and overheard me say it was my boyfriend's birthday and brought a surprise cake. Excellent cocktails and food. Would definitely come back!
We frequently eat at Sei before Shakespeare Theatre plays, and always enjoy it. But we have to remember that cooked foods take time, given their limited burners, so service can be slow.
Never noticed this place. Incredibly fresh sushi and delicious beer and sake. Friendly staff. Prices were not outrageous considering the rent they probably have to pay.
Great location...perfect venue for pre-socializing before events at Verizon Center.
Great birthday lunch! Billy & his team were amazing and made my day extra special!
Excellent service, excellent food. The checkout process with Apple pay and open tempo app was super convenient.
While the sushi is good, anyone that enjoys the simplicity of simple flavors and clean, fresh fish may not enjoy anything outside of the sashimi and plain nigiri. I found the flavors/sauces in rolls and special Nigiri to detract from the star of the sushi, the fish and rice. For those trying sushi for first time or not lovers of sushi, this is probably a good place. Was just disappointed in quality of the rolls and nigiri slices and rice...the art was completely missed in favor of sauces and toppings.
The staff was really helpful when we couldn’t decide what to order. The sushi rolls are out of this world! I highly recommend the fish and chips roll, it takes a British staple and elevates it to a new level. For someone that’s new to dc and needs a nice spot to meet with friends or family this place is for you.
Greats restaurant but stick to the sushi. Appetizers are ok, sushi is great.
