Came for summer restaurant week - the sushi appetizer and poke bowl were both delicious, wish we could’ve had more! The chocolate pancake dessert was a little bit of a let down. Not very flavorful or chocolatey. Noise in the restaurant was very high because the space lacks acoustic panels or any soft surfaces to absorb the sound. Service was a little slow. Another customer at a neighboring table was not served even water for at least 15 minutes after being seated. We were not served for at least 10 minutes after being seated.
My second time to this neighborhood restaurant -- great food, service, and ambiance. Very definitely worth the visit.
Wow! Incredible quality and best sushi ever ! Service was amazing and definitely a 5 stars restaurant overall
Best value for brunch Ive had in DC, especially during restaurant week. Absolutely wonderful service by Diane our waitress who refilled our mimosas and bloody marys very quickly and was very friendly. Food was great and atmosphere was amazing!
Second visit, it was our 26th wedding anniversary, great meal and service, dessert topped off a great meal!
Great Food, Good Atmosphere, Great Service. We came for restaurant week and found a gem. Definitely will be back.
Amazing quality sashimi and sushi. Beautiful, trendy ambiance and decor. Went for restaurant week and their fix-prixe menu was incredible--Loved the spicy shrimp sushi, sashimi, blackened tuna tacos, and you have to get the Miso bread pudding for dessert--that was the best part! Light yet satisfying and flavorful food. Attentive, excellent service. Our waiter let us try wine before we ordered a bottle-very considerate got the 10 sisters white and it paired extremely well.
I tried SEI for the first time for lunch with coworkers. We went during restaurant week, and everyone was very happy with their selections!
Nice go-to place for sushi
Great brunch. Good value, wonderful food and lovely restaurant. Our servers were attentive and we felt very taken care of. Bottomless deal is a great value and the food was well worth it.
We had a very enjoyable dinner at SEI early in the evening. The decor is very nice, the service great and the food wonderful. Our waiter was very helpful in making suggestions for dishes to try. Everything was great!
Very cool decor and great food!
The service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly eventhough it was busy. The food...some of our selections were really fantastic. The spicy tuna was kind of sweet but the fish and chips are amazing!! I'd definitely go back.
Sushi menu was varied and creative. The fish was very fresh and delicious. The bottomless mimosas and bloody marys were a deal. The servers were pleasant and attentive Overall a great experience.
Love this restaurant ! Consistently well prepared and delicious dishes and amazing cocktails. One of our favorites
Expert service. Well presented.
Delicious! Love the sashimi pizza and great rolls. Highly recommend
Came for the birthday dinner. Food was good but running a bit slow. We ordered desert but Surprisingly they didn’t do anything about the birthday not even a candle.
The food literally melts in your mouth, the presentation was perfect, and the waiter (Sai I believe) was the most friendly and upbeat woman I've ever met. The service and food exceeded my expectations and I definitely plan on coming to SEI again for any special events.
Had some awesome cocktails and mocktails, small plates, sushi and Korean BBQ tacos, oh and fantastic dessert. Great service. Staff is very attentive, conversational and polite.
A fun Friday night. Kudos to our server May, who read our vibe perfectly and contributed to a delightfully tasteful evening.
So I decided to treat myself to a nice dinner and this was certainly a treat! The staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was outstanding. Overall, I had a glorious time!
Loved the ambiance and great service!
Chose the Fish and Chips sushi based on the name alone and it was outstanding! Toro sashimi and crispy duck leg were equally memorable.
This was my first experience here, and I'll definitely be back. Despite being a bit below street level, the ambiance was really cool and intimate. Our server was the right amount of attentive and charming, and very knowledgeable about their wine selection.
My date and I ordered several of their specialty maki rolls to share, and I think the lobster roll (with crunchy bread inside, like a real Maine lobster roll) was my favorite, with the poké roll a close second. What was even more surprising to me, though, was how good and interesting the desserts were! I had a miso orange bread pudding with sea salt ice cream--it was the perfect combo. The bread pudding was moist and flavorful and the ice cream was a great counterbalance, keeping the whole dish from being too sweet. My date had the ginger tres leches flan which was also very tasty. Definitely make room for dessert!
Excellent food and great service!
We returned here for our "Early Moon" and it was as great as the first time we tried this place. Mei Choi was as great as she was the first time. We highly recommend this restaurant.
The fine aspects of dining at SEI include the gracious hospitality, excellent fish, well-prepared and novel menu items, convenient location for Shakespeare Theatre, and dependability. They remembered our Anniversary with a complimentary dessert and glasses of champagne. How's that for gracious hospitality?
This restaurant is a favorite. It's so convenient to Gallery Place metro, the ambience is lovely & the food is delicious & inspired. The sushi is so fresh with unusual combinations. I look forward to eating here as often as possible!
Very cool dining area. The service was spot on. Small plates were fantastic and varied. I would definitely hit this place up again.
Not the best sushi in DC. And the service was not great.
Enjoyed a perfect brunch with attentive service, perfect portions, delicious ingredients and gluten free knowledgeable and accommodating.
Food is okay, bibimbap is a let down, sushi is decent. Nice interior.
TOO LOUD! My friend and I yelled at each other across the table, and could still hardly hear! Don’t come here if you want to have a quiet, easy conversation.
The menu was very diverse. It included Japanese, Korean and other Asian foods. The food was better than we expected. The sushi was quite good and the seafood servings in the sushi and bento boxes were very generous. We also had the Kalbi tacos (very good!). The service was great. Our server was very welcoming, attentive and helpful. The restaurant was comfortable and clean. The area has a lot of construction going on, so it was a bit difficult to find the restaurant.
Our server tried hard. Seemed like she was busy but even when the place cleared out the food came slow. There was a miscommunication in one part of our order and they were out of the spinach salad I wanted. We were accommodated for the trouble and the food was good so overall a pretty decent experience.
Service was super slow, maybe because it was crowded. Didn’t get drinks for a half hour and food too about 50 mins. Love the food though. Will go back but on a night when they are less busy.
Lost count of how many times I have been here, but its always enjoyable
Food was impeccable for lunch, wonderful sushi and sashimi. However the restaurant is looking a bit worn around the edges and needs refreshing.
