Excellent quirky menu—great service too!
Great atmosphere from an attentive and helpful service team
It's been a few years since I was last at SEI, and unfortunately I was a little disappointed in the food quality this time around. I used to think it was one of the best places in the city to get sushi, but I found the sushi this time to be just slightly better than average - especially since it is a bit on the expensive side. It's still a good place though, just not as good as it used to be in my opinion.
Great food and a great vibe!!!
Is this the most underrated restaurant in DC? Our answer is yes. We enjoyed yet another superb experience at SEI and were again so impressed that our conversation centered on its lack of notoriety. The crispy shrimp sushi roll, the spicy cilantro tuna roll, the waygu beef sliders, the caramelized Chilean sea bass, etc,. were all 'world class' in flavor and presentation. We now dine here each time we visit DC (often).
Drinks were a little pricey but the overall dining experience was great.
Love this restaurant!
So much fun but so expensive
Solo diner - Spectacular sushi. Some of the best I’ve had. A little uncomfortable to be seated at the sushi bar and I was the only one there which made it a little bit lonely. Had some very large parties around me that were a bit raucous but not too bad.
Does it really need to be this expensive? Personally, I don’t think so. So many great options with more affordable pricing.
We got a variety of small plates and they were all fabulous!
One of my favorite sushi places in the DMV! Definitely will be back again!
Omg this is my new favorite sushi in DC. The atmosphere is beautiful almost like my fav NYC sushi spot Morimito! The service was great, very attentive and the server even suggested two dishes that I would have never picked but are now my favorite and I can’t stop thinking about....truffle hamachi and some sort of seared salmon. The kimchi fried rice was delicious and enough for 4 people to share. Oh! The pear sangria is my new favorite cocktail in DC also. It’s light and refreshing. I just love love love this restaurant and will go weekly! I was shocked at how inexpensive it is considering their level of freshness, attention to detail(beautiful plating) and service. Wow! I’m a bad food photographer so just trust its beautiful and impressive. My only gripe is that it gets loud in there And even tho I’m sensitive to loudness I’d still go back. If that bothers you go earlier or something because you don’t wanna miss this place!!!!
I enjoyed it very much. Nelson, the server was excellent! Excellent! He smiled all times and was very helpful. The manager was great. I love the white colour. I just love it for good energy.
Great times. Great drinks. Amazing flavor.
Delicious delicious delicious!! Unique flavors, super fresh sushi.
Excellent food with Sushi the highlight. Also interesting Tapas-like dishes. Service is fantastic and the ambience is fresh and quiet.
Good food in fun setting. Great service!!! Little pricy, but overall a great restaurant.
i love this place. great ambiance for dates, special occasions and after work. great small plates that are easy to share. sushi always fresh and well-prepared. happy hour snacks are great. cocktails are inventive altho they discontinued my absolute favorite: the painted lady (please bring it back; it was delish and i loved the paprika salt rim. )
loved it! so good! happy hour drinks and food were amazing
Not over the top. Uni was good. Ok her items just average.
My server Alexis was awesome, he has been my server all the times I’ve visited and he was awesome. Definitely coming back.
Gran calidad gastronómica y servicio ad hoc. Muy amables en la atención. Muy esmerados
We had the great lunch bento boxes - delicious and good value!
SEI is one of my favorite brunch spots in town. Consistently great food and some of the friendliest service in town!
Ummmm it was overall ok. The food was good but some machine was making a weird rhythmic humming sound that was annoying and weird. I’d probably come back but not for dinner. Way too noisy.
SEI is one of my favorite spots in the city. The sushi is amazing! The service is great. Every time I come back and enjoy sushi, I fall in love with the place again.
Liked this place but it was just too loud/- couldn't have a conversation
Excellent as always
Such a great place! They took such great care of us with and made excellent suggestions. They knew it was our anniversary and made it very special.
This is my favorite place! The shrimp burger is the best!
Enjoyable food and great service. But it’s too loud to have a conversation comfortably.
Repeat patron. Always a Gallery Place/Verizon area favorite! Awesome fish n chips roll!
The sushi and service here are excellent. Great specials and sake menu.
Interesting decor. Decent food. Extremely loud noise level.
Excellent experience here on a Saturday night. We made a reservation for three, and we were promptly seated shortly after our reservation time. Drinks and food are fantastic! Sushi is very fresh; in fact, you see the chefs making it at the bar. Sake is obviously a must! Highly recommend.
Ate at SEI in 2016 and had a wonderful experience. We were traveling to DC again from Fort Lauderdale and wanted to sample some dishes we hadn't tried the first time.
Often when I have a great first experience at a restaurant and return a year or more later it can be a let down. SEI wasn't. It was as good as I remembered and the 6 of us had great food, great drink, great service and a good time.
When I got the bill I didn't have my glasses but the price looked about right and I gave a little over 20% tip which was about $70.
After our waiter took away the signed bill he came up to me a short time later and privately explained that
the tip had been included and if I wanted to redo the tab accordingly. I did and still left an extra $20 because of the great service and the honesty of our waiter.
Everything about this restaurant was great. We stopped in for a late bite and didn't order much yet all the staff was warm, friendly and professional. We ordered 2 sushi dishes which were original, fresh and delicious. Can't wait to return!
I had a really delicious cocktail, the shiso mojito. I’d go back just for that and the tater tots. Otherwise, food was so so. Ambiance was interesting in a good way. We thought we saw Victoria Beckham, or a wannabe, so definitely fun for people watching. Not all bad, but will not become a routine destination point.
PS noise level too high.
